What I Learned After 1000 Hours of Game Development (Unity in 2019)
Ойындар
Hello, fellow game devs and gamers! In this video I'm summarising what spending 1000+ hours in Unity on game development does to a person 😄
→ If you've enjoyed this video, consider supporting me on Patreon to help produce more frequent content like this. / romanpapush
→ Also see me break down further in the Discord server: / discord
-----
UPDATE: Many people ask in the comments "how I made those graphs in the end", and I answer that question in my next video: • Portal Physics & Trick...
-----
In all seriousness, this was (and still is) the greatest experience. I've learned a lot about Unity game development and game design in general. And figuring out how to deal with my own quirks helped me in my personal life too.
The backdrop for this all is me trying to create the ultimate indie golf-inspired game. I show where I am now with the current gameplay, as well as older footage and time-lapses.
Thank you for watching! 🙌

You hit the nail on the head. The hardest part is not the act of development itself, rather the mood swings, self-doubts, and the negative thoughts of wasted hours. One has to suffer through it to understand it. Thanks for sharing your experience.

Wow, such an amazing video. I can't believe how much everything your said resonates with me - like you put into words all of my thoughts that I've had while making my game (going on 3.5 years now, between 3-4 hours per work day while commuting). At some point in my game dev journey, I also came to the realization that no matter how many things I've learned along the way, the most important by far is that all huge, seemingly unsolvable problems can be broken into tiny, 1-hour manageable chunks. I'd measure my time spent/wasted in units of train stops. No problem is too large anymore. The biggest issue is learning when to give up on an idea - having spent months on a single idea, only to ditch it a short while later. So glad you put all of this into words. And good luck with your game. It truly looks fantastic and original.
