Couldn't agree more. It's a pleasure to have a host who knows his history and shows appropriate enthusiasm for what he finds. I found the channel recently and enjoy it greatly.

“A hammer is a hammer.” My favorite Brad-ism so far and I loved the shot of the mushroom pushing up the leaves...another great video. Thanks 👍
It's a colonial bottle opener, so he could open a refreshing Samuel Adams at the end of a long day metal smithing! 😂😂

I wish I was a younger man,Brad.I'd ask to be your apprentice and be happy as a clam. The bad part about it is 73 year old legs, but the good part about it I am (and I am NOT by myself) with You every step of the way.Brad, take me with you!!!
What I love the most about your videos is the music, the back story/history of the property and then your excitement of your finds.. Keep up the good work

I, too look forward to the videos. I'm hooked clear up to the sinker. Thank you for sharing your finds, time and knowledge. You are special!
Brad, the hammer is indicative of a cobblers hammer on display at a museum in Bend Oregon. Don't remember the date they had on theirs, but had to have come across with the settlers in the 1800's or so. Great finds, wish we were able to detect where I live without being hassled by the local gestapo.

Ray C. My thought too. Farriers don't use a claw to remove nails. They use a pliers type tool, at least modern ones do.
@MrJento
4 жыл бұрын
burrichgrrl57 you are correct. That is a cobblers hammer. The claw being used to turn a clasp rather than pull a nail. A farriers hammer is similar in that it is small. Usually about 10-12 ounces. But its claw is narrow and somewhat pointed. The cobblers claw is broad and square. The farrier drives a nail through the pritchel holes in the shoe at an angle through the wall of the hoof so as to avoid the quick of the hoof. The nail exits the hoof wall about an inch above the sole. The hammer is reversed and the point of the nail “wrung-off” with a twist and pull motion to form a clasp. The hammer face is then used to close and tighten the clasp pulling the shoe firmly to the hoof. Removal involved cutting the clasp with a small chisel edged tool called....a clasp cutter! Then the farriers pincers pulled the shoe clasp less nails and all off the hoof.
Wow! That was an incredible find when you found the other half of that cuff link. 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍🇦🇺 great finds for the whole day.
Amazing that you found the other half of that cuff link.I watch a few different metal detecting videos and yours are one of my favorites
Wow the design was hand chased by some craftsman on that cufflink. Mind blower.
Finding the second cuff link is just insane!! And what a reward they are. Just gorgeous. I am amazed. Crazy amount of knives and very cool coins. Thumbs up!
Stuck here in Belgian lockdown for the last 10 months not going outside in moments of depression I turn to your channel very restful and peace giving , thank you

Great video - with really good production values. Appreciate being able to vicariously enjoy Vermont!
Rein guide for a wagon?. Another awesome video Brad, keep them coming.
The gun blasts made me concerned you could be seen by poachers. Stay safe, Brad! Amazed at all your finds. It’s all living history. Goosebumps! ❣️
CONGRATS ON THE NEW GLOVES 😋 GREAT FINDS BRAD SO HAPPY FOR YOU ITS LOVELY OUT THERE. CAMILLE AUSTRALIA
Gets you thinking about how the cufflinks ended up so far apart, maybe one fell off the shirt and the other stayed on until the person walked across the property where it fell off and was found 250 years later. Amazing stuff, thanks for taking us on the journey, it’s worth the monthly donation.
Beautiful clarity in this video and I too would love to see more of the music making.....the short clip you posted was great.....thankyou
Brad, great video as always! Could the shop have been where they made buttons & knives? Sort of a foundry/blacksmith? That would explain the knives, broken shoe buckles and buttons.
I just want to say that it is pure pleasure watching your videos! You are so eloquent and you explain everything and give us an image of what stuff actually was maybe used for! Yes indeed your videos are a pleasure, we take your adventures with you! It's just awesome!! Thank you for taking us along !!
What a way to end a stress full week, relaxing to one of your video's Brad, Thank You, it's always worth the wait.
Your hammer is a very early iron cobblers hammer. The square profile and flat heavy claw is the tell. It was used to build up leather heels on shoes. The heel was a stack of leather “slugs” nailed tightly together. The cobblers nail was more like a long thin stout wire. It had no formed head nor a point and was square in cross section. The hammer claw was used to twist a small J-hook on the end of the nail. Called a “clasp”. As in to clasp a nail. This served as the head. The leather slugs were pierced with an awl and stacked on the nails. The hammer drove the slugs down tight. Then the sole blank was added. The claw again turned a clasp and the nail was driven down rolling the clasp in and making a tight solid heel attached to a sole. On heavy shoes the sole layers and the upper might also be nailed together. Nails being more durable than stitched welt construction. Fine shoes (slippers) were stitched. Common shoes (clogs) were nailed. In the 1880’s hob-nails came into use. Your hammer predates those.
Brad, beautiful finds! It's great you found the other cufflink, and can reunite the pair. Awesome video!
You found the missing link 😆👍

Not all metal detecting treasure hunting channels are created equal. You got a good one makes me want to go out and buy a nice new metal detector and start hitting the woods.
I really like how you show nature around you while your looking for treasures, instead of just putting it on pause like others do. Great job!
That was great! Thanks for taking us along! Awesome on the cuff links!
a child's shoe with a mary jane strap would have closed with a button, maybe. good finds! glad you went for the iron!
Yet another awesome adventure taking us out of our living rooms and into the wild. I hope you know that some of us live through you Sir.
Whoa, what are the odds of that find! I am glad you adopted dig it all policy. So many historical artifacts are discovered by digging low tones too! Awesome history saved!!! Thanks Brad 👍👍👍
I love your videos for how much of the woods you share. I have been a lifelong hiker and due to mobility issues can not get into wooded areas any more . Thank you. I swear I can smell the moss.
Brad, Nice seeing the items you found before all cleaned up!
Great video. Finding matching cufflinks on different days in different areas..... Amazing! Betty from Canada

Nice to forget all your troubles for awhile each Friday by getting lost in a Brad Martin video. Thanks Brad for being you and sharing this part of your life!
Congrats on the finds! It just goes to show that most places are really never worked out, despite our best efforts.
Awesome hunt Brad! Of all the people that put out their videos yours are on the top of my list. The way you put things together and include your audience is great. Thanks for sharing and HH!!
Outstanding! Thats awesome you found the matching cufflink, congrats brad
WOW!!! One of my favorite videos so far! What a day!!!!!!!! 5 star day! Enjoyed every minute as always!
Awesome video as always! Love the buckle, buttons and cufflink, way cool finds!
The production value of your videos are off the chart. i enjoy them so much. I live in the mid west and love the old coopers and old history you find. The oldest coin I have ever found is a first year fatty Indian....So close to a large cent.
How fortunate you are to live in an area where so much history has happened.
Another great hunt. I use the same machine, so I will be digging a lot more iron sounding signals now. Great presentation and finds. See you next time.
I just read the comments and now have nothing to add except more of the same kudos! Love everything about GMMD and am going to start supporting! Fantastic content, music, production and personality!
I always enjoy your videos Brad. Great finds as usual!
I wonder if you're dealing with more of a metalsmith type location, based on finding both the shoe buckles as well as all the knives and buttons?
Great video as always, thank you for sharing your adventure.
Great fun. Thanks for taking us along.
I love how much history you reclaim from the ground, how much you appreciate each and every object. Great job!
What an awesome landowner to let you keep all that. I love nice people like that.
Love your appreciation for nature, and the beautiful pics during your hunt!. Ty
What a really interesting site. Thank you so much for making these GREAT videos.
Second....again - great job Brad. Unreal the " finds separated by time".......Onwards and upwards!!!! my friend. There's a new title for ya!! Love it!!
I never get tire of watching your videos my friend. You re an inspiration to me as I hone my skills as a content creator. Thanks for sharing.
What an incredible day. Great finds! Really appreciate all the effort you put into your videos! AND especially that you do not exaggerate for the sake of effect.
I Googled the hammer & found one like it from Diamond Farrier Co. Nice draped & Conn. copper. That cufflink find is INCREDIBLE. Whoda thunk it. Great video.
Amazing saves Brad! So cool you were able to complete relics like the shoe buckle & cufflink! You definitely inspire us all. Thank you for taking us along on your journey.
Indeed a remarkable find over two hunts on those cuff links. The metal detecting gods are happy with you.
That cufflink was amazing...now a matched set. I'd have to wear them in respect for the guy that wore them first, whoever he was. His life was a tribute to the Vermont way of life. "LIVE FREE OR DIE".
you have such a good eye for nature, thanks for the videos
It probably wasn't just a shoe shop but more of a General Mercantile that sold shoes, clothes, kitchen wares, maybe even furniture.
Thanks Brad! Well done. Rox Happy birthday to me! 60 today.... you made my day!
Nice DB 1807. saweeeeet. That CONNEC will be my White Whale even though I live in CT.
One thing I've learned from your videos is why my ancestors abandoned the Berkshires of Massachusetts for Vermont after the Revolution. It is a very beautiful area.
Great video my friend!! Lucky to find that half to the cufflink! What an awesome find!! I kinda like you digging all signals out there. Again.... great show! ✌🤟
You made some great finds there. Beautiful scenery and history. Thank you for taking us with you on your adventures!

Thanks for taking us along. Great video!
I’ve told you this many times Brad, you’re amazing at what you do! And lucky too. I dream of finding large cents, but just can’t get over one. I hunt about three times a week, many 1800s places, but you pull them out like they look for you! Congrats. I’ll never give up. One day!
THX for the most relaxing metal detecting channel . I always love to see Your vids on friday. Hope to see a lot of Your work in the future. May the great spirit be with you. Greetings from the Netherlands.
Nice finds. I went to Vermont back in the 70s. It seemed like the greenest place I had ever been.
Another great video Brad. Thank you for sharing, makes my Friday start great
Really appreciate the time and effort you put into all of your videos. Thanks for the entertainment
Love it when you are actually detecting but sometimes there’s too much fluff time. Still I enjoy your videos.

Great videos! One of the best on the tube
Great hunt and finds always enjoy ur videos...keep hunting and stay safe! ✌️
Man thats incredible that you managed to re-unite the cuff links after such a long time apart. That there alone made the video. Cheers for sharing mate. GL & HH
You have a real talent for the mix and edit on your videos. I so enjoy watching them! You and the Hooverboys are the best!
Great historical finds! I envy your loose soil. Here in the Illinois it’s been like concrete most of the summer, between infrequent rains
Man you make my Friday!
Nice finds Brad, you find a lot of coppers, odds are pretty good about that state copper you seek, GL & HH
Great video, as always. I really appreciate the time an effort you put into filming/editing. Your finds are amazing.
Another great adventure Brad!!
