What I Do For a Living In Greece - Remote Work | Living in Greece

What I do for work in Greece is one of my most asked questions. Here I discuss what I do now and what I did when I moved here. Then I discuss a bit about how you can look for your own remote job so that you can move to Greece too!

@@agirlandherpassport Just asking cause I who speak Greek, French, English. I try to return to work in a school teaching and I had a 6 months program to teach AutoCAD design on sheet metal and steel and worked 44 years with 3 degrees so I can bring the students up to date if they where searching for work outside Greece. So I gave up after spending 3 visits on my vacation I couldn’t make them understand. In my field of work Technology changes every year. In order to be educated we go back to school and upgrade our skills. Not only that but the language also is new. Before in 1978 when I started working we used paper, pencil and drafting tools to draw ✍️ So now I just visit Crete just like any tourist. You’re right about they are not helpful so they send you to 5 streets down to get a paper stumped or your passport.. so I know well what you went through. Canada is the best country to work. I’m now retired but I still get job offers. I even sold my car so I now walk and take pictures for Instagram self employed hahaha. You have a incredible channel full of information I like the content… Ευχάριστο

Regarding taxes, how does it work when it comes to that foreign income exclusion? Does that still come into play for the self-employed? And are you subject to any Greek taxes because you physicallly are in the country while working?

  • @agirlandherpassport

It’s a bit tricky for the foreign income and it’s best to ask your accountant if you are in that situation. As for working in Greece, it also depends as some people might be claiming tax residency here. It is different for your situation

@@agirlandherpassport Yeah, I would absolutely consult one if I were planning that. If you are a W-2 employee but working overseas, it is likely simpler from the US tax standpoint. But the self-employed angle is not one I ever thought about from a tax stndpoint overseas. I have my own business here in the US, and I understand fully the tax pros and cons of a US-based one. Not too many videos out there comparatively with self-employed people who also happen to live outside the US. And, yes, the potential Greek tax residency is another thing to consider.
