hey gorgeous! i love your pages! i’m with you- i can’t BELIEVE Sarah Richter put out an AI book!! And sure enough- it looks like every other AI book out there- dragons and maidens and all too perfect. It’s such an ugly book. But what you did with that mermaid page is pure genius! it’s gorgeous! i am in love with how you made the underwater part of the scene look. Superb! It makes up for me being so sad about the artist’s choice. Why would such a talented artist do this?? Thanks for the video and sharing your creations!❤

Lovely pages. I am quite new to colouring and only use pencils. As I don't have any large or expensive sets I mix brands when colouring pages. I notice that colourists don't tend to. Why is that? Any particular reason?

If you are saying that you mix different colored pencils, it would depend. I often use mixed media on my pages. Like my flowers might be done in this set of colored pencils and my leaves in a different set of colored pencils. However, I wouldn’t use two kinds of colored pencils on the same flower overlapping them. The reason is some pencils are wax-based, some are oil-based, some are water-based, and some are a combination. Certain pencils do not blend well together, for example, you wouldn’t use an oil pencil over a wax pencil because it won’t show much or will leave stripes or indents. You can use an oil pencil and wax pencil over it, however. And water-based pencils should be used alone or with a water brush. For the effects, it’s generally a good idea to use just one type of colored pencil, or brand, on one area. Especially if you are blending more than one color. But feel free to use different pencils overall on different areas of a page. I recommend an inexpensive set of alcohol markers to get started practicing how to use them. Or water-based markers.
