Thanks Ivan, for this brilliant update. I went to 'Wilko's' and 'Poundland' today and spent a small fortune, lol. What I did get from 'Poundland' was some more rolls of copper tape to put around my pots and containers to fend off the slugs as I found that it works, it doesn't kill them but they won't go over it and they were £1 a roll that are 2 metres long. Take care and all the best. Stevie

Try smearing Vick around the rims of pots of collars. It’s saved all my greens after the little slimy pests decimated my first courgettes.

Ivan, fabulous update demonstrating that you can get a plentiful supply of most vegetables when grown in containers. I think you are spot on when you say just sow more seeds, what can you lose? I'm still going to sow more dwarf French beans, even though the books and seed packets suggest it's a little late. As you rightly point out, what works in one area of the country may not in another but always worth trying. Thank you.

thanks for the tips! I've noticed my pak choi (Chinese cabbage) starting to bolt, but I've heard you can eat the buds. So I'm going to try and wait for them to develop a little more and pull them up. will make a nice stir fry along with my dwarf French beans :). I'll prob plant more pak choi as well.

You always inspire me to go plant something, However the heat is too intense here now, But by the 1st of Aug I'm going to be planting my little heart out. We have grasshoppers everywhere this time of year. They eat up everything. I've decided by next year I'm going to have something set up to cover all my plants.

Thanks so much Ivan, I’m trying in earnest to get to grips with staggered sowing and trying to keep everything going as long as I can. One question though Ivan, my courgettes are doing really well and we have plenty fruit growing on them. However, the flowers keep ending up mouldy and thus the end of the courgette ends up mouldy and rotting. We have had a lot of rain over the last week, but what could be causing this and is there anything I can do to avoid it happening?
