Thanks Ivan, it rained here at lunch time then it's been glorious since, if the weather people have got it right (for a change) it's supposed to be sunny here tomorrow so I can get some gardening done. Have a great week. Take care and all the best. Stevie

My broad beans are cropping really well, even though they're being blown every which way, and so are my peas. Not even any blackfly on the broad beans (I think they'd get blown off anyway!) but I'll grow dwarf ones next year, the aquadulce are like a 6ft jungle to fight through to pick! I've already had some nice spuds (Charlotte) from two pots; from one spud in one pot I get about three or four meal's worth of potatoes if I'm not greedy, two or three if I am! French and runner beans are really struggling badly and Little Gem squash is NOT HAPPY. Rhubarb looks great, but it's its first year, planted from a wee bit of semi- mouldy root which I nursed back to life in the new year, so I won't harvest anything from it this year. Onions have hardly grown at all after a decent start under a cheap plastic cloche from Aldi. I have carrots in a deep trough, raised up (hopefully) above carrot fly level. They were VERY slow to get going, even though I planted pre-germinated seed, but I had a dig around with my fingers and the roots seem to be plumping up nicely. I've kept as many of my tomatoes as possible indoors and quite a few have set fruit already; none of the outdoor toms have set any fruit yet even though they're against a south-south-east facing wall and quite sheltered from the wind. Fingers crossed. I'm getting a touch of sun on my raised bed where I grow the veggies, most afternoons and evening. It's not much, but seems to help a bit. Better than none, at any rate. One thing I am sick of is garlic spraying against slugs every. single. evening. If I miss an evening they run WILD. I'm sure that at 2am it must be like the Last Chance Slug Saloon out there, wild partying, s*x all over the place, gorging themselves silly ... I am investing in nematodes and awaiting their arrival soon. SOMETHING has to be done to reduce the population!

Hello, Ivan, I've commented before as I'm in Lincolnshire for over 30 years and enjoy my gardening. Fistly it is a windy area but the last 2 or 3 years have been particularly bad. As far as the rain goes that too is worse than normal. Statistically Lincolnshire is one of the driest and warmest areas of the UK in summertime believe it or not. Getting your head around the wind is the key to success and growing what tolerates it. I've long given up on taller stuff, sunflowers, cordon tomatoes, runner beans etc frothy hanging baskets. Believe it or not I find arid ornamentals...agaves, yuccas, hardy palms, cordylines etc do quite well in a sheltered sunny spot. Anyway, good luck with the caravan and growing from just outside Louth inland from you.

We're having the usual "all four seasons in one day" here. My grasses and ferns are thriving, my tomatoes haven't even produced a flower.

Shame about the wind Ivan but it comes with the territory. The coastal strip of Lincolnshire is a very exposed area and in the Winter the wind becomes more than a nuisance , it can be dangerous. I live about 5 miles inland from the sea but the wind is still a problem but the only upside for you right on the coast is that air frosts are not usually severe or common even though that doesn't mean it's warm! Obviously I don't know your exact location and if I did I would not reveal it but further up the coast at Humberston and Cleethorpes storm damage and tidal surges are always a worry so keep any insurance you have up to date. Anyway, good luck and enjoy the sea air!!

Thanks for the encouragement Ivan, as a first time grower I'm pleased with the 1lb Rocket potatoes I took out the other day, gave me hope there's more in the other pots. Like everyone else will have to wait and see about the other things I'm trying in containers.

Yep, I reckon I'd be saving about fourpence on lettuces and spending forty quid drying out any clothes I use for gardening. So I'm stopping indoors and letting my garden (mostly in pots) go wild. Not that I've seen any butterflies to make use of it. Ho hum. Here's to planning for next year. 🌞 🌧🌞🌪

It was really wet last summer but I don't think it was as cold and windy as it has been this year. I have an allotment and we've got some new plot holders and I can understand them feeling a bit hacked off at the moment.

That constant cold wind coming across my small garden from the west (even on bright days) has devastated my veggies and flowers. They are just not growing!!!! One minute it is cloudy and cold - say 13 degrees and then full sun up to 23 degrees. My plants are suffering badly 😢😢😢

Ivan I'm bloody fed up with it, i thought last year was bad but come on it's July for goodness sake, some of my plants are struggling. Their slow this year & i feel like I'm so behind but I'm not it's the daft weather. Having said that i had my first harvest of new potatoes today, 3.45lb, I'm happy with that. Apparently we've got rain all day Tuesday 😕 Have a nice day out tomorrow....

That's a really good harvest from 1 container that's really good. iv not tried 'rocket' before, we def going to give them a go next yr. We always grow our new potato's fr supermarket ones, the tiny baby ones & they grow really well for us every yr in a lidl potato tower l bought for £11 about 4 yrs ago. We paid 57p for a l kg bag of tiny new potatoes when on sale & planted them all in the 4 layer tower. We were really late planting them this yr so their not yet ready , but l had a little rummage in the top tier & baby spuds are there :) From past harvests we should get approx 12 kg back. l recommend anyone to grow their own new potato's, it's so easy & all organic. We like yr tip to replant.. we have just planted a few more supermarket ones in tubs today to see if they will give me another harvest before winter, hope it works.

i love how real you are and no frills. I'm a beginner and feel swamped watching other youtubers who use "special" everything. I also saved my bell pepper seeds and they have grown into big plants and wanted to know about pinching the tops off to create branching to get more peppers. I'm now a new subscriber from st helens. Its hard to find people growing bell peppers in england so thankyou very much.

Will that be completely or would you have to mix it with fresh compost to grown more veg. Also interested how you will use some of the potatoes for another crop. How will you do that. Could you do it with a supermarket potato? Thank you. I am learning 😊
