    I am 25 months out from my stroke today. So many people give up after 6-12 months because they are told to give up on recovery. In months 13-24 I have walked exclusively without a cane or AFO. How did I get there? I walked every day. I can heel strike/dorsiflex now. I have slowly regained the ability to move my affected toes! Consistency and not giving up are the key, and I'm so happy I'm stubborn and don't give up. Thank you for the help you provide others and the positive messages you send.

    Hi Elise! All of your tips were great. What helped me was a mantra I created while in the hospital. “I am a left-handed dancing machine.” I would recite this both internally and verbally. Over the year and two months of my recovery it has evolved with my progress and outlook to become “I am an ambidextrous, dancing and powerful speaking king!” Addressing my own limiting beliefs and replacing them with empowering beliefs has also helped shape my life and future. 🏃🏿‍♂️🚶🏾‍♂️👨🏾‍🦯👨🏾‍🦽

    You have no idea how really, REALLY, HELPFUL you are Elyse! I have subscribed to your channel and donated ( a little, I confess, but plan more). I live in Ireland. I’ve not had consistent physio since I came out of hospital, very little in fact. I was in hospital 6 months following a stroke, of course. I haven’t worked for almost 13 months now. Your advise in this video is really helpful and dare I say common sense! But, it is essential for people like me who have been surviving in a Twilight Zone with little advice or assistance. I have suffered chronic fatigue and sometimes it’s all I can so to stay awake, not to mention the other associated problems many stroke survivors no doubt struggle with. I’d be totally lost without you/your Channel. A million thanks is owed to you Elyse. 😊😊😊❤

    My second stroke was about 7 years ago. It resulted in left-side paralysis and months of therapy until insirance quit covering. I knew I wasn't done with the process of getting back to optimal functioning, so I added a few weeks more, resulting in thousands of dollars out of pocket. That, of course added more stress and my team of doctors seemed okay with my not improving more. I am not okay with that. I have lost three jobs because my executive function is a shadow of my previous efficiency. ❤ TODAY'S WIN: I asked my partner to help me start sorting some papers that had been stacking up for a few years. He helped and when i had enough, he kindly said that it was okay to leavevit for the night. He is just now beginning to understand that clutter and disorganization are negatively affecting my health and outlook.

    Thank you very much Elyse for the videos and the informative emails. I wish I had come across your Instagram page 2 years ago. What kept me going throughout the recovery is applying the consistency and perservence attributes which I had always applied in my work and exercise regime, pre stroke.

    Great tips. I’ve also learned that you have to laugh. Yes, laughter is important. You can’t be serious all the time. You have to let yourself laugh and enjoy certain moments in your daily life. I simply boil it down to: “I’d rather laugh than cry. “😊

    Hi Elyse, unrelated to this video but I recently discovered that another stroke-recovery channel I follow is run by a "guru" with a made-up title. Just wanted to say thanks for providing this quality content for free, and for being exactly who you say you are. My current OT is also a certified stroke rehabilitation specialist, and I've learned that this certification marks someone who truly understands my situation and is the best-positioned to help me get my life back. (While I vetted your credentials online, I came across your website offering telehealth OT sessions. It was just amazing to see. Great-looking website and wonderful work! Thank you again for all that you do.

    @mingjiawang, Thank you so much for the kind words. I can't tell you how much I appreciate them! ❤️ I'm glad you vetted me. It's so important for people to not take someone's words at face value. While I do have the appropriate credentials and am licensed, registered, and certified, not everyone is. I see so many people trying to sell snake oil and it makes me super frustrated!

    This is all well and good 'IF' you're able to help yourself, if like me, you've just been swept aside not only by the health service but now family you're done. I'm just left alone to fend for myself these days (almost 3 yrs in) constant pain, dreadful spasticity and the fatigue OMG. Example, if I spend time (if I can muster the initial energy/enull the pain) to try and make just ONE healthy meal a week. Not only does it take all day I'm too tired at the end of it to eat it.

    Hello Elise! It is helpful to have a Botox injection so my numbness and hurt and in my hand will ease? My CT scan result has a Black spot. The surgeon tell me it will never will gone. And doctor's cant tell me where my stroke came from because all my laboratory test is OKAY. that's why im wondering why i still fell numb and hurt in my fingers. My hand deform a little in my middle palm .

  • @PostStrokeOrg

    @PostStrokeOrg

    2 жыл бұрын

    @cyradeleon, Hi there! Botox is typically used to help the muscles relax and reduce spasticity. It is common for numbness and pain, unfortunately, to continue or even start a few months after stroke. But this is a better question to talk with your doctor about, as I'm not a neurologist and am unable to diagnose or prescribe medications/injections.
