pretty easy once you have a reason to use drugs- to escape, to feel good or both, and eventually dependency/addiction. and then, the deeper you go in the rabbithole of drugs considered dangerous the less afraid you are. addiction is a disease, not a choice, the choice ends where addiction starts

I'm inclined to agree after seeing people on methadone maintenance therapy. Where I live a big portion of users inhale the vapor off of foil and have never injected before. There are some of them who were using for over a decade, and after sorting themselves out using the methadone and having clean clothes and good hygiene, they look way better for their age than most people. Others who weren't so lucky have aged more because the street life took its toll, and some can thank the effects of unsafe IV use or of other drugs like amphetamines.
