This is genuinely one of the coolest guitar accessories I've ever seen. I won't even call this a gadget as it 's a legitimate tool to give absolute versatility to the player. I went through a trem guitar phase and honestly still love them, but checked out after years of labor intensive setups so this is basically a no frills solution to how I would love my guitars to be.

I generally prefer a fixed bridge so this is pretty cool since I love the sound of divebombs and experimental noises people get out of tremolos like Eddie’s trick where he made his guitar sound like a elephant.

What amazes me about this product is when using the different features it still retains the voice of the guitar as it would naturally sound at that pitch. I was expecting to hear an artificial ring or digital artifacts but if they are there the human ear can't pick it up. This should win some kind of award. Great channel as usual, Darrell. Cheers.

That'll be format analysis - shift the pitch but keep the formants the same - that actually comes from mobile phone GSM tech :)

My favorite part is non-destructive installation. Seems like a really cool product that goes beyond gimmick into practicality, especially for someone who might be recording multiple tracks

They finally built it! I've been jonesing for someone to invent this for, like, 10 years. The moment the Variax existed, I wondered why it didn't have a virtual whammy. Now, it's here, and I don't even need to install a hex-pickup or piezo saddles. Amazing.

I was thinking exactly the same thing. If this could do alternate tunings on the fly like the Variax and/or act as an Acoustic piezo it would be a serious game changer

"But we're gonna do it anyway" Love it! The blue tooth should have been implemented into the Tremelo system. I don't like the idea of a wire hanging out on the front of my guitar. Seems like the Blue tooth was an after thought.

If the Bluetooth transmitter was in the part you stick to your guitar and that piece was a little longer and flatter I could see that as much better. Maybe make it blend in with the body a bit by smoothing out the sides and back of it too. More ergonomic in any way.

IMHO one of the coolest gadgets that I ever seen for a guitar. Thanks a lot. Although the price is not too much popular, if I was a professional player I would buy right away!

If they would integrate the transmitter to the main unit, decrease the price a bit, and improve the appearance, I would buy it for my bass. V-Capo is interesting, but there were plenty of room on the pedal, they should add a standard tuner display on the left and transposed pitch on the right, so we can play the root note and try the target key by pressing the button repeatedly and read the transposed pitch, no need to count the semitones anymore, and who doesn't like an always-on tuner?

This literally fills my creative joy. I want one because I have hard tails and it saves money on actually buying a Floyd or a bigsby and even an octave pedal.

Very cool idea. A whammy on a Les Paul… hmmm. Buuuuut I’ll wait for the next version when they integrate the BT into the unit and reduce the size. I assume it has batteries so are they rechargeable? USB? There’s definitely some ways to make it more aesthetically pleasing. Instead of a bulky plastic holster taped to the guitar, how about a metal plate that matches your hardware with mounting pegs and magnets to hold the whammy unit in place? Then when the unit is off the guitar the plate would blend in with the rest of the hardware. Also offer the whammy unit in different finishes to match the guitar hardware. So much potential, but while this version is cool, it feels like it was rushed to market. Just my humble opinion.

100% Agree. I've been thinking about this type of pedal/whammy for years. Total miss on aesthetics. Also, why just whammy? I want to be able to control all types of modulation effects with the trem-bar. Like an expression pedal. Blending in a bit of rotary fx, phaser or whatever.

Interesting in both concept and implementation...Sounds nice and it's all controllable too. I especially like the portability between multiple guitars and the fact that it doesn't require any physical modification. Ya gotta' love it, right? Maybe the biggest negative of the Virtual Jeff is it's price...though it's portability makes it practical if used on multiple guitars imho...which even an old fart, like me, thinks is just TOO cool. Thank you for the thorough demo.

Seems to be no measurable latency with this unit, That’s awesome!! I had this system idea stuck in my head for years after seeing the first Steinberger Trans Trem demo but I’m no electronics guru and didn’t have the resources to carry on with this idea and I’m excited to see someone finally did it! Thanks for the video Darrell because I’ve never heard of this unit before. Always wanted to be able to put a Trans Trem on a Strat without butchering the body, now this unit solves that issue!

I didn’t think I would like it ...but it’s actually pretty freakin cool...and your guitar stays in tune...that’s a big win!!!

i’d really love to see the controller in various shapes, like a keyboard pitch bender for example, with seemingly equally subtle movements.and it would be great if such could be placed not just behind the bridge, but also beside. also the actual effects unit to handle more like delays for instance.

One potential minus is that effect where strings detune at different rates because of their different thicknesses/tension probably can't be captured by such a clean pedal. Like the low octave was a perfectly in tune one. My trem goes just a hair under an octave but obviously the tone kinda sucks because of the floppy strings. But a cool dissonance trick is hitting a unison harmonic on different strings for example 5th fret on D and 7th on G and bending down. They don't detune at the same rate and start to clash and sounds really cool when used appropriately. Not dissing on the product tho it seems fantastic

Steinberger (the headless bass people) had a guitar with a trem system that was supposed to do exactly this, called the TransTrem. You could use it regular whammy style, or you could notch it down or up in half-steps and it was supposed to be just like re-tuning or a capo. So maybe look at this system from that perspective? f course, nothing will completely replicate taking the tension off the physical strings.

If you bend one string up with the fretting hand while using the bridge system to bend down, you should be able to still achieve this effect.

Upside, you dont have to invest in a transtrem. Altough I would prefer one.

It's actually pretty amazing how good and convincing it sounds. Also the virtual capo is really convenient by itself.

This is a great idea, especially for those who are fans of the Steinberger TransTrem guitars. This pretty much gives you that sort of functionality. I could see myself installing one of these on my Gibson.

Didn’t hear a price mentioned so before I looked it up I thought what I would pay for it? $150 was my max. Maybe $250 if I really needed/wanted it. But $500!!?! 😂 No way. Especially for adding a point of failure with the Bluetooth. But yes, it sounds very smooth and the various effects are cool. The looks could be better.

Sounds a lot, but how much would it cost to buy a good trem system and have it fitted professionally? Also with multiple brackets this could be used on many guitars without the tuning issues associated with a conventional trem system! Many players pay that much for a “must have” effects pedal!

Yeah, I agree. It just makes more sense to put that $500 towards an actual guitar with a trem. Nowadays there are a plethora of amazing budget guitars that make this unit a tough sell.

@LCL don't worry, cheap knockoff of this thing will be available everywhere including the DIY ones (as the pitch bends etc digitally are fairly trivial on the sw side of things) so expect something like $100 tops for a good quality result in at most a year :D

Pretty wild, it's just a matter of time for it to evolve into something smaller and better looking. Like with the Bluetooth integrated and a smaller unit that would be available in normal colours that would match common tail pieces (Chrome, nickel, gold and black).

This looks amazing and super fun. Holy moly.

Love the virtual capo and octave effects. Very cool system.

You want a great tremolo that's a non locking. Go with a Babicz the saddles alone are worth the cost . It is absolutely the easiest to set up and intonate. And it's very stable , looks great and feels wonderful. No more chewed up right hand.

I put one on a strat and it works great and feels great. I ended up taking it off though. The way the strings sit in the saddle makes palm mutes weird and difficult. You can’t rest your palm behind the break of the strings because the strings are too low in the saddle. If you have a babicz you know what I mean. The saddle rises above the string so slight palm mutes are almost impossible. The unit itself works great and is machined beautifully but I’m too old to change the way I play for a trem unit. I found that a odd choice in design.

This thing is super cool and would solve a lotta my headaches with my strat, especially as a player who spends a fair amount of time in Eb standard but doesn't want my trem to be blocked off all the time. Though I'm not sure about its looks, and there's nothing quite like the sound of loose strings slapping the frets in a big divebomb.

Really cool product! Love that they added additional features like the virtual capo!

This trim system is elaborate & cool, I am wondering why I didn't think of the concept myself. You did a great job in demonstrating use of this system & using the breadth of it's capabilities. I know I want one now.

Wow, just what I have been waiting for! My previous experience with converting my ES335 was with the Duesenberg Les Trem (in gold) which worked great and looked elegant.

This is an amazing product. I couldn't really tell if it changed the actual tone of the guitar when in use. For the aesthetically picky players, maybe have a machined aluminum rail that attaches to the bridge somehow and engages with the unit rather than that big baseplate. That could be the Mk.2 ;)

This is one of the coolest and most useful products you've demoed in awhile. My only concern is what the adhesive will do to a finish when you remove it or if you leave it on for a long time and then remove it. Other than that, I see no negatives to this device. God bless and rock on 👍😎🎸

My exact thought. I've toyed with the idea of a Bigsby for one of my Pauls. This would be far more versatile but I'm not going to screw up the finish by leaving that adhesive on it for a long time.

My suspicion is that if your guitar has a very thin nitro finish or old then it's definitely something to worry about. Poly lacquers are usually really thick and are what most manufacturers use so it shouldn't be a worry.

Pretty cool but I think it has a ways to go, especially at current price. For one I'd like to see the Bluetooth integrated into the base, keep it clean with no extra cables coming from guitar. I think the bar could also use a redesign, to me it just looks a little cheap and very non-traditional; the ability to swap out bars would be great as would a tension adjustment. I'd come up with a new name while I was at it.

Brilliant idea but needs to be half the price before I’d start to consider it.

It porbably would be possible since it doesn't require any physical modifications to the guitar other than sticking a plastic bracket on it and it doesn't cause any structural changes to the guitar itself and string tension.

You can put this on any Instrument. Anything that has a pickup, or even a totally acoustic instrument can be miked and run through this. In theory you could put one one a Steinway LOL.

Darrell, after reading some of the comments in here, I agree with some of them regarding how it mounts and the finish being a bit of an aesthetic draw back. In fairness though, it does not require any type of physical modification of the stock body or bridge system which if someone were to use it on a very high-end or vintage instrument means that it will not compromise the instrument's finish or value. It also keeps the cost of manufacture of mounting hardware down, allows it to be universal to any brand, and universal to any fixed-bridge style. They incorporated the K.I.S.S philosophy with how to mount it on any stringed instrument without having to make thousands of mounting plates for each individual possibility of use. One person suggested magnetic mounts and for some reason I believe that would cause interference with the pickups and create a garbled mess. I do not know how long this has been on the market or if this is just releasing, but having it available in colors that would match the rest of your hardware be it black, gold, chrome, pewter, or whatever, would be nice and make it look less generic or gimmicky. I love the functionality of the unit as it is not a one trick pony. Thank you for sharing.

Wow.. I think I love this idea. Usually play with a floating trem, minus my Les Paul, but always hated tuning stability and have been thinking about going straight fixed bridges the older I get… But this..I think it maybe what I am looking for my home studio.

I was sold when I saw that I could have a trem on my solid bridge guitar and not having to tune all the time. Everything else was just bonus. This is one of those, if you only buy one accessory for your guitar items, but this type of thing. Being able to tune up and down without having to adjust intonation or buy new strings is worth it just for that feature. Yikes. I saw that price though.

So you're saying I can now record an acoustic version of Wicked Game on my Martin, nice! Space, the final frontier. This is like when you're drafting second in your fantasy football league and the guy who's drafting number one doesn't actually take Christian McCaffrey. Now I have to change my entire thought process. I only own one Electric guitar that does not have a tremolo Bridge. The only reason that I own that guitar is because it's a Washburn with a buzz feiten tuning system. The only reason I haven't bought a Harley Benton hb35 is because it doesn't have a tremolo. So like I said I have to change my thinking. This is like having your cake and eating it too, or a girlfriend that baits her own hook. Mind-blowing. Or girlfriend that bakes the cake and baits my hook as well as her own. WHAT IS HAPPENING!!!🤯

I dont think it would be possible since the unit just changes the whole signal up and down. Theoretically you could try to filter just the frequencies of the B string but the nature of guitar makes this really hard. For example playing the 5 or 6 fret of the next lower string. It would pick this up. And if it were to try to capture the whole b string then you would get all the way up to 17th fret of the high e since those are the same notes. Not saying the idea of a frequency filter in this device is a bad idea.

You can do that on hex pickup based systems like a boss gp10 since they process each string individually. I use it all the time.

Can it do the Beck/Vai warble when you flick the bar? Also I assume it bends chords in tune like a Steinberger trans-trem.

Ingenious to say the least, with no modifying luv it.

I have to say that is a pretty cool little set up. so crazy all the new tech stuff they keep coming out with. for me personally I am a keep it simple guitar player and liek my rig and guitars as simple as I can keep them as well. But it is cool.

Especially given that you're not changing your original guitar by routing and the like. Add in the cost of having a luthier mod you guitar for a new trem system, this is almost a bargain.

Yeah I was wondering the same thing. Older Digitech whammy pedals didn't handle chords well and it wasn't until the more recent ones when they added a 'chord' mode. 🤔

A nylon string guitar with a whammy! Or....Bass! .... Mandolin? One thing you didn't mention though: At bedroom volumes you'd hear the pitch of the string clashing with what was coming through the amp right?

Yes. Having dealt with this on the variax and with the digitech drop, it’s usually only a problem with the upper 3 strings…FWIW Edited because autocorrect doesn’t like digitech

That is awesome. And the fact that it gives you other effects as well (octave, chorus, etc) makes it even cooler. The tech these days blows my mind. I do wish it was at least half the price tho...fancy whammy or new guitar? I'd have to go with a new guitar lol

They call this version the "pro." Could they have a regular version with less features for half the price? Feel like less, at $200, could be much more tempting for mass appeal. Discount codes DB? Haha.

But you're not just buying one whammy. It's instantly removable and transferrable between any number of instruments. If you sell the current guitar, you just remove the bracket with no trace left and put it on your new guitar. It's an investment that can stay with you forever, not with the instrument. And not just guitars, anything that either has a pickup built in, or you can even run a miked instrument's signal through it. How about a whammy on a trumpet, or a 300-year-old harpsichord? 🤣

Doh. I was aiming for a Stetsbar. Now I may have to spend an additional $200 for what I want.

That thing is pretty legit, I wish they had found a way to integrate the BT into the trim unit instead of the cable adapter but that doesn't take away from how awesome it is. Serious contemplation for my Tele HH FMT

This is the coolest thing in guitar technology in a long time.

At first I thought “probably another useless gimmick” but I honestly thought it sounded great. Lots of cool tones.

Most of Beck’s unique tone comes from his fingers and the volume controls. He does use the whammy bar but if you look closely at Beck’s technique whilst he plays, it’s all in the fingers and volume controls - doesn’t use pedals

man that is so cool. I am now thinking of pulling the Floyd Rose off my Charvel , fixing the bridge and buying one of these ! Thought I would hate it , unreal what this can do .
