WHAT HAS HAPPENED TO RHYL? WOULD YOU VISIT?

Welcome back to the channel, todays video takes a look at how Rhyl has changed from a busy family holiday destination to what I could only describe as beach front with not much more to offer, Sad to think it is now only a shadow of its former self, tell me what you think, is Rhyl somewhere you would like a holiday? #travel #beach #rhyl #seaside #summer #holiday #holidays

I can remember coming to Rhyl when i was a kid in the 80s, we had been on holiday in Blackpool and went to Rhyl for the day. I defo remember the funfair and the outside water pool and it was like a mini Blackpool, had a great time there that day. The beach still looks nice especially on a sunny day, the prom looks ideal for cycling and skateboarding. This video is bringing back so many good memories. I remember my dad saying that we were going to come back to Rhyl the next summer but it didn't happen cos we ended up going on our first square deal holiday abroad to Santa Suzanna in Spain. Stayed in the Hotel Riviera and i remember we had to climb across a live train track to get to the beach . Great video Paul👍

I remember Rhyl well. I haven't been for over 30 years but I used to love the Jetscream roller coaster which was the main roller coaster of the funfair. I remember riding on it with a friend and the restraining bar wasn't fastened down and every time we went over a bump the bar lifted up and we were rising out of our seat! He was screaming "tell the man!" while we were on the ride and people still make fun of him for it now. I also remember the "Horror Crypt" on the sea front - it used to have a giant creature breaking out from bars and saying "welcome to the horror crypt" above the entrance while turning its head left and right! The arcades were amazing along the sea front and I remember the Sun Centre too. We always used to get fish and chips around the corner from it on the way home. The Fun Ship nearby near Mostyn was also somewhere we used to visit. Thank you for the memories. Those were happy days!

That looked a lot nicer than I expected, I remember it being tacky like a little Blackpool, I'll pay it a visit next year.

I remember the old sun centre and fun fair, had great times with my friends and my cousins, such a shame they got rid of it and to be honest not much left to do in rhyl anymore, it really is such a shame paul

I checked out Rhyl recently on street view, and wow... there's nothing left of the seafront arcades. Which lead me to this video. Used to go to Rhyl as a kid every summer. Stayed in PrestHaven Sands when they had the log built and wooden chalets. Would go into Rhyl daily and played in the arcades for hours, with the claw machines and the penny drop machines. Play on the beach making sandcastles and eating sammiches our mum had made beforehand. Then spend hours in the theme park as well, eating hot dogs and ice cream. Rhyl was also the reason I was the first person in my school to play Mortal Kombat. And nobody believed me when I told them about an arcade game where you could rip spines out and stuff. Used to be a buzzing place 365 days a year, and now it's all gone now in place of B&M and Range stores, and flats. Such a sad thing to see a wonderful traditional seaside front just get mowed down in place of conglomerate stores and apartments that are all owned by monopolies.

Yep, nothing to do in Rhyl, no aquarium, or watersports centre, or laser tag, or amusements, or lots of independent shops, or very, very long seafront to walk along. No water park, no cinema, no play parks or places to get ice cream or a hot drink. No area setup for exhibitions or anything like that, totally nothing to do. (This is sarcasm, by the way)

The beginning of the end was the early 1960s when the going abroad holiday really started to take off. And so began the loss of boarding houses that became flats for rent. Less people resulted in less attractions and so it becomes a cycle that could never be changed. Same as many other resorts. The high street is very depressing today and when I think of being a child in the fifties when the town had real shops, shall I say to today's uninspiring outlets. However again it is the same everywhere more of less. Though last time I was in the area, Prestatyn, just down the coast has a lovely high street with interesting shops. I am afraid though that now with Amazon that will deliver anything I want next day and products that I do not have to try to find in a shop, then the offerings today are not up to the needs. Also parking fees and the war against the car are making us turn into islands and not really wish to enter the shopping fray. I believe that the idea is indeed for cash to disappear and as long as the government keeps their hands off it, then find by me.
