Drilling the pick guard with the guitar body under it ...with only a thin sheet of cardboard between them... gave me the willies.

Nice video ! A few things I'm not ok with in your video. - Pickup height depends on the string height, not the pickguard. - These tiny holes next to the pots poles are not "mistakes", they're supposed to let the pot's tiny guide find its place and stop any unwanted rotation. - Pretty dangerous to drill just above the guitar like that 😅

Thank you for commenting. Since the same pickups were used I opted to measure via the pickguard. No biggie. Your method works too! :-)

Helpful thanks, the Chinese pick guards are the worst for lining up especially when the fretboard does not overhang the bridge end hiding any filing of the pick guard

Very good tutorial. I cringed when you drilled the pilot hole on top of the guitar. I’ll be doing this soon, especially if and when I replace an 11 hole with an 8 hole. Also, did you leave the plastic film on the pg on purpose? Cheers

I want to upgrade my guitar but I don't feel confident filling my guitar's holes and then drilling new ones. Is there no way to adjust the pickguard to fit perfectly? I didn't know changing pickguards was that hard

Often brand-name strats fit fine. Best to check the new pickguard up against your current guard. Good luck!

Find it much easier to cut the wires at the claw and the jack, and then work with a stuffed pick guard myself. This seems like a lot more work than it has to be.
