There is no 'Myth' about using it. You Can use it, it's the AMOUNT that becomes an issue. As someone who has worked with resin almost 7 years now, you can indeed use acrylic paint in resin to color it, but you have to be weary of the AMOUNT of paint that goes in due to the acrylic base that is used in such paints thinning the resin too much where it can't cure properly. There's a rule that you shouldn't go past 15% vs the amount of resin used. For example if you are working with 20ml of resin, then no more then 3ml should be paint. Otherwise the resin may not have enough of its self to bind and cure to full hardness, leaving it 'soft' as it's diluted. In the long run it's always better to use the raw pigment to color resin, as that raw pigment is also what colors paint, but you don't get all the extra staff and chemicals that are in paint along with it.

Those are Acrylic inks not paints. There is a difference. And a difference in how they work with the resin. Paint is typically just a colorant. While the inks are much lighter weight wise and when used in specific pour techniques along with a white pigment paste and what is called a clear push they can create beautiful patterns in the resin. They are used mostly in pour techniques called flowers (not to be confused with 3d blooms) such as the dragon flower, fairy flower, chrysanthemum, crackle effect, larimar stone, and more.

Hi Steve. I have used these inks and had success the trick is to only use a few drops mixed in eith the resin not just dropped in. They are much more potent than alcohol inks. In the small pots less than 1full drop would work. ❤❤❤

I’d like to see an experiment of glow in the dark powders vs glow in the dark acrylic paint.

I have used Daler-Rowney FW Acrylic Artists' Ink and had great results. But I mixed in my resin to make a semi transparent color so I didn’t need to add a lot of ink. I also Love using Dr. PH Martin Bombay India ink in resin!

I haven't used acrylic inks, but I have used both normal china ink I use with dip pens, and acrylic paints, both without any issues. I used both before I invested in actual resin colorants, but I've found better ways to colour my projects.

I mix acrylic paint in my resin and have had absolutely no problems

for me it's either epoxy pigment pastes or mica both don't fade over time and will hide yellowing that all resin suffer from over time from sunlight etc. plus there are unlimited colours you can create by mixing colours 😉💪👌

I have seen people use acrylic inks to color resin as others have said. It can give different effects when pouring acrylic ink, alcohol ink, mica or pastes because of the weight and opacity and how everything sinks or raises, etc. I have never seen them used like alcohol inks, but more when people are trying specialty effects such as crackle, or larimar or dragon flower, etc.

Julie @ pouring your heart out uses the inks in resin a lot! She uses them mixed in as a colorant. They're pretty strong and water based i believe so that's probably giving you that reaction

Hi Steve...I've used the same set of acrylic inks in my resin. However, I've only used them to color the resin when I want a more opaque color and don't have the paste to do the job. I haven't had any problems using them at at. However, they are very potent. One drop usually does the trick.

the acrylic ink that you used I think was mostly water because I color my resin with angelus acrylic leather paint and it works like a charm. I was so shocked at the results it gave, however, I appreciate you doing this vid

Yes, you can use Acrylic inks in resin, but it's meant to be mixed into your resin to color it just like you use mica powder, pigment paste, and resin pigments/dye. It's most often used in specific pour techniques such as the Larimar, Dragon Flower, Fairy Flower, and more. You have to pay to learn those techniques or watch others doing those techniques and then try to figure it out yourself. But, trust me, you will spend far less money just buying the courses. You also need to use a white pigment paste to get the ink and resin to move and create designs. You separate your resin into smaller amounts (but much larger amounts than those tiny pots) and you pour each color mixture into your mold a specific way depending on the technique you are using. And you have to have some clear resin to use at the end of your pour. The clear is called a push. You pour it into the center to make the colors and white push outward As they move back towards the center, they create different patterns. It can also be mixed in with your mica to help deepen and even change the color of your mica and resin mixture.

Acrylic Ink is best used for certain designs and thinner resin. I use it all the time on my channel.

Would u suggest/use wipes on mixing bowls as well- in between projects I mean?

I think the last one you took out of the mold is interesting on the bottom. Maybe if you added some to top it off. I think these two products don't mix well. Kind of like acrylic paint and oil based paint.

I have used acrylic inks in resin. They are very intense, but I find Indian inks work much better. They will work to color the resin, though, if you mix it in with the resin. So if you're looking to create an opaque background color, mixing in acrylic inks can make some interesting colors. It's not the best, because of the water content. It's very much like the acrylic paints, in that you have to be careful how much you put in...*however* for some things, it works quite well.

Have you tried the Dr PH Martin calligraphy inks? I have some from my paper crafting days and just wondered if they would eork

In very small amounts. My first try I dumped it - thought it had a nozzle tip - into UV resin and no it did not work. It was a mess. So just a drop.

Can you use acrylic paint with epoxy? If so, do you need to thin it out?

I added some ordinary acrylic paint into epoxy and the colour was amazon

I was recently given loads of liquid food colouring, do you think that will work. Thought I might try it on something small and see how it goes

Food colouring is mostly water, though. Water and resin don't really mix. That said, it might be worth a try anyway, just to see? If you have a little bit of leftover resin to try it out on...

@@kme thank you, I'll definately give it a go, there is so much there I don't know what to do with it lol I had some already then my mil passed away and I couldn't throw hers out, then he elderly friend clean out her cupboards and gave me more!!! It's more than I would use in a lifetime but I couldn't throw it out, the crafter in me makes me a bit of a hoarder 🤣

@@fionabishop4420 you could always use it on other crafts making backgrounds for cards, maybe also water marbling (I'm not sure on that but maybe another chance to experiment lol), or stamping. There's always a use for something. We just gotta find it. 😁

Yes, if you need to clean your mold use tape to get any particles, resin, hair, etc off of it. Tape will get most stuff off of your mold. You just touch the tape to it and pull it away, don't rub it. If you also use an eco resin you might have to wash away the residue. In that case use warm water and mild soap and swish your mold around in the water to rinse away the residue. If you must touch it to wash away a spot, then touch under the water and as lightly as possible with your fingers. If you have mica or chameleon powder stuck to your mold and tape wasn't able to get it off. Then use a soft brush or a micro brush dipped in warm soapy water to get the powder out of the mold. Be delicate, especially with the micro brush because it's just a thin soft material over a sharp plastic tip. Rinse away the soap as you go, don't let it dry on the mold. And yes, many people use isopropyl alcohol to clean their molds, especially when painting them with mica powders. In those instances it's unavoidable. But Try to use alcohol on your molds as little as possible. The alcohol dries out the mold, causing it to break down faster and get dull quicker. Spraying it on the resin to pop bubbles, though, is fine.

Acrylic inks can absolutely be used in resin. They call them ink but they really are acrylic paint. They certainly can't be used like an alcohol ink but for coloring your resin, they work.

I and many others use acrylic ink regularly as a colorant. It does great when mixed in thoroughly.

I think we can say don't use acrylic ink in resin.
