    ...on the monster truck bit - yeah, they kind of have done since they got past the 48" tires (Bigfoot 1 was last street-registered in 1981,) but the transport tires became a _bit_ more popular after the trailer incident with Taurus 1. I've noticed recently that teams have begun using compact tractor tires to transport their trucks as well.

But yes, you would need something a bit more sophisticated to take into account things such as dirty air behind other cars, side winds (which applies to cornering as well) etc. If the model was considering gears, as suggested above, or implementing any other artificial modifications to the grip level, it would naturally result in incorrect behaviour.

    Uh no because they already tried it from 1998-2008 when F1 had grooved tires and the racing suffered because the cars had tons of aero grip and no mechanical grip. That's the opposite of what you want. The downforce and dirty air is what leads to bad racing. They need to keep the slicks and cut the wings off. Then it's like a giant go kart

    I agree with everything you said in this video but... If it was an accurate simulation and we are talking about commercially available tyres (and not custom made road legal tyres) as soon as you went over 120-150kph the tire would completely explode. Check the tyres on your car for the max load rating. It's less than the downforce generated by an F1 car at these speeds. Also, rF2 seems to not simulate the wings stalling when you get oversteer, like they do in most single seaters. The phenomenon is caused by the sideplate hitting the air sideways and casting an "aero shadow" (bad term I know) on the aerofoil part of the wing.

    Probably mostly true, I've added a description to the video about this car on my channel. Of course at lower speeds the tire loads won't be too bad, but loads can go up to ~1300kg on a single tire in F1, opposed to say 800kg on road going supercars.

    What would've been interesting is to see what would happen if you take the gear below the one where the wheels don't spin at the maximum torque output and tune the torque curve so that the lower gear becomes driveable. It is a hybrid after all, so like putting out a constant 400nm from 3000rpm to 8000 or something like that should definitely be possible in the real world, just don't shift down I suppose

  • @barnabro

    @barnabro

    2 жыл бұрын

    It’s absolutely possible, not just via the hybrid system but with boost pressure and timing from the turbo too. Something similar is already used in F1 for different engine modes, such as wet weather maps which give a less aggressive torque curve. Also to ensure consistent throttle feel and torque response between temperature changes, and the altitudes of different tracks.

  • @or2kr

    @or2kr

    @@barnabro I'm not sure how well the engines perform at low rpms, they are after all built to perform the best just below 12k rpm and thus aren't really made to run at full load at low rpms. What could also work is different throttle mappings for each gear, would be much simpler to implement I guess

Even better, less deficit and more tolerance in the wet, they could actually probably drive through puddles. It seems only win honestly. Cost saving even.
