They actually weren't all that much different from the 30's honestly. Sure the tech was "Better" but it hardly made any difference. (And considering we can't talk about the 40's {Gee I wonder why....} basically tech slowed down and never really "Improved") They still were bulky, heavy, and a handful. However they did get lighter when some companies experimented with aluminium bodies. The 1960's changed all of that when the first "Modern" F1 car was made. Basically Lotus proved the tech right out of the gate.

That was until Mid Engine was introduced. By that time they found out Mid engine was better suited. Also most cars were already mostly Front engine anyways. (Excluding that Audi Auto Union C/D V16 car which I believe was the ONLY Mid engine Gran Prix car, go ahead and quote me if I'm wrong. But don't count the very first cars from the antique age........ nobody counts them as cars really......just horseless carriages) They weren't really proving much in terms of speed until the mid engine designs started getting better results. And tire technology also improved causing cars to be FAR better than the 50's offered. So really, my statement stands and makes a valid point. Nothing really "Improved" they just got a bit faster with a bit better technology but it didn't advance fast enough to make any major difference. If anything the biggest improvements back then was the steering and handling. Because power steering was such a new concept, cars actually got better control using it. But if I recount in all of F1's years no cars had Power steering (I might be wrong. Anyone reading this, please mention that for others to learn as well for anyone who comes across these posts) so they didn't add them in. I do think the steering wheels got smaller as the decade drawn to a close and that's when we saw the 1960's cars with smaller steering wheels eventually. But probably in truth I'd call the 50's the "Aero understanding" years because they started to learn more about aerodynamics at that time vs before. There is some documentary videos here on KZread, if you fancy a little education. Check out how they used to think how aerodynamics worked back in the 30's then check the 50's. You'll start to get the picture how things went down as time went on. So yeah, the 50's really didn't improve all that much. It was more or less the same thing in the 30's with different looking cars and more manufactures getting involved into the sport. Also I think the 50's was also a time when reliability was a thing they were all trying to cap into since cars tended to break a lot. Getting cars to last longer but maintain power was a huge breakthrough.

We all love the screams of V12, V10, and V8, but let's appreciate the V6 Hybrid, it's a hell of a powertrain with 1000 HP! If there’s a way for the FIA to improve the V6 sound like the old ones would be nice! Maybe in the near future is gonna be all-electric so, let's enjoy these ones today!

I think they’re great looking cars; they look like arrows which I guess is what the 2017 regs were going for. Imo the renault is this year’s best looking car, but the best looking turbo hybrid car I think has to belong to either the sf70h or sf71h. We’re also at a point where the halo is kind of expected to be there and over time other solutions will make it become more of an integrated part of the silhouette
