I grew up being overfed and told to finish my plate. Now that I'm trying to lose weight, one thing I am coming to terms with is not having to finish my food and saying it's okay. I'm 33 and I'm realizing it now. I don't have to finish my plate. Guys you don't have to finish your plate!!! You can stop when you are full! Your parents can't force you!! I moved out 10 years ago. -.-

Wow as a former binge-eater I now understand why I would get so tired immediately after a binge. Fall asleep actually. I used to use a binge as a WAY to fall asleep and have a nap when I had not slept well the night before. I cannot believe what I used to actually seek out, that full to bursting, eat until I am basically sedated feeling, was ACTUALLY me stressing out my heart and organs. Holy smokes. What have I done to my body all these years it is scary.

As someone that has bulimia nervosa I can confirm that I’m literally feeling like I’m about to die after a binge. I sometimes have such bad binges that I’ll start to cry because my stomach feels like it’s about to explode. I get really nauseous during it and I can’t stop even when I’m at the point where my stomach hurts really bad. I’ll stop when I’m physically not able to get anything down and I don’t even need to help myself out with puking because my body can’t hold all of the content inside of me.

I don't promote eating disorders but I think i have one. Please don't do what I'm doing, I only search for a bit of help.. So, to avoid eating unhealthy things, I stuff myself with very low calorie and ..somewhat healthy foods like unsweetened pickles (16cal/100g), tea, LOTS of salad/spinach, like I'd eat 2 big jars of pickles or 1kg of jar greens (without additives of course) at a time to avoid eating any unhealthy stuff because when I do that, I eat so much until I feel so full and sick (abdominal pain stated in vid) that I can't eat anything anymore. I don't think this is pretty healthy though, should I go to doc?

I drank 3 litres a day and took care of my eating habits for a week and saw results. I did have to go pee every few minutes but it’s your body getting rid of toxins. What i also did was that when i was craving chips or a snack i would replace it for fruit or cucumber with chile, i would also eat sausages with lemon and chile, they honestly helped me so much with my cravings. Yeap. To me, the hunger pangs are by far more bearable and less horrible (still being bad, tho) than feeling bloated and nauseous. In my country you go to a restaurant and usually the full menu (which is a fixed price) includes a starter, a main dish and a dessert, and of course your side bread and wine/beer/whatever drink. I can't take that amount of food anymore so I'd rather leave the place feeling that I haven't eaten enough instead of indigested. Nobody around me understands it :(

Yes, I agree that eating quickly isn’t good. Eating slowly really helps your body (brain and digestive system, mostly) process what’s being put into it, allowing your body to tell you if you’re full before you eat too much. That’s what helps me; I used to scarf down a meal within 5-10 minutes and feel crappy after, but now I really make an effort to chew slowly and savor every bite…now I’m proud that I take at least 25-30 minutes to finish a full meal, and my body is much happier (calmer) afterwards! Watching a clock and doing puzzles or something to distract you from eating too fast really helps if you can do it. I know short breaks at work can be tough, but I still try to eat slowly, even if it’s less. I hope it works for you all, too!

I have a similar story to yours. Took me about 3ish years worth of recovery to finally be in tune with my hunger/fullness signals. I still have days where I overeat but instead of judging myself, I get curious and ask- did I not eat enough throughout the day? Did I go too long without a snack/food? Were my meals satisfying? Am I stressed? Did I sleep well? Normally that helps take some of the harshness away from it and helps me be more empathetic towards myself. We will never be perfect intuitive eaters, there’s no such thing! You got this, be kind to your body and your mind 🤍

I used to be obsessed with weightlifting and my obsession didn’t stop when I left the gym. I force fed myself chicken and rice and a bunch of other foods I thought would get me big for many years. To be fair I did get much bigger and stronger but at the same time my life wasn’t fun. I was miserable cause I was always stuffed and I felt like I never had time to do anything other than eating and lifting or I would get small. If you aren’t interested in becoming a roided out professional bodybuilder or strength athlete I would definitely not recommend sacrificing all the time in your life to getting big and strong. It’s not worth it. That’s such a tiny aspect of life and there is so much more to enjoy in life. I will still always lift weights and eat healthy foods but anything in excess can become unhealthy and the gym life is no exception. Have balance! I hope my story helps someone who feels like a slave to the gym rat lifestyle. Don’t be defined by your size and strength. Your self worth is not based on your physical body!
