What happens to the brain without desire? Enlightenment, that's what happens. The mind becomes free, liberated from the source of mental suffering, because the source of suffering is desire. Now the mind can perceive things as they are, without filter. An intense awakening occurs.

The source of suffering is craving not desire.Desire in itself isn't a problem..one needs to desire enlightenment to head there. Without desire, one would never work on their defilements.

I still reflect this moment, was the series about to end, and he ended it with desirelessness. I can realize the fact that in desirelessness there are no what should be and should not be. And wanting desirelessness is a desire . There is eshtablishment of another "what should be" which is "desirelessness" . There is that stop then which reflects when the movement of thought realizes that it cannot do a thing.

I think it is important to distinguish between natural, positive, meaningful, and ethical desires that are essential for living a genuine and fulfilling life. However, desires imposed on us by capitalist society are meaningless and cannot be achieved. In a capitalist system, the accumulation of more material stuff is considered better, and constant optimization is desirable for maximizing profits."

Yes indeed but the work of a anthropologist like Rene Girard explains that desire is mimetic and so actually, desires are most of the time not ours. Our sociétés will be totally différents if we were juste aware of the fact that desire is mimetic. Needs are another thing.

Pls realize that Desire is different from Need. Having a need is part of the Function and to differentiate a Need from Desire requires Intelligence. This could be relative and depends on one's situation being different from Others.

This is the only Jiddu that I have not been able to comprehend. I know desire itself is the true and dominant nature of life . I desire to live a healthy and long life so I eat well and exercise regularly. Desiring not to have a desire is also desire . It is rather a life without desire that leads to presence . Unless the desire of pleasure or ambition .

Is love, relationships a need or a desire? Food is a need, but is asking for good food a desire? House is a need but asking for a good house is a desire? Love is a need but asking a specific lover is desire? Plz clearly mention the difference bw desire and needs. Sometimes it looks that all needs are desires too and all intense desires become needs. Its hard to classify desires and needs. I think a desire is minds "need". And a need is a "desire"of the body. I think a mental drive or urge is called a desire and a physical drive is called a need.

I think this is what he is asking us to contemplate. The line between desire and need is what distinguishes a person as intelligent. This is what he is saying. It’s definitely worth thinking about it. It makes you think about the root of your desires and maybe choose differently. That’s all it’s a mental exercise. I’m not sure that I couldn’t justify everything as a need but I guess that’s where I’m at
