I met Craig, the Australian at the Boreal lodge in Wiseman, Alaska. He was headed Southbound on the Dalton and I was Northbound, headed to Prudhoe bay. Had a great time chatting with him and a handful of other riders in the dining room/kitchen that evening.

I am so glad you made it to our 50th state and are enjoying. Stay safe and watch for moose!

People come to Alaska and think they can treat an adventure here like they're in the Lower 48. The bus guy was no hero. He didn't do his research, wandered off into the muskeg and eventually convinced himself that there was no way out.

Ugh, thank you. Christopher McCandless was a spoiled little rich boy and a complete idiot. He got himself killed through that idiocy and I will never, ever understand why people worship him so much. He is not heroic, or admirable, he's an embarrassment to all adventurers, hikers and sensible drifters out there.

Every day I get in the queue. To get on the bus that takes me to you. So nervous, sit & smile. Your house is only another mile.

Name of the motorcycle shop is OUTPOST ALASKA. $410 to replace tires is a crime.

Yes they gouged her, I looked up the latest shop labor rate in Alaska $143 an hour they probably charge by the hour. There is some local upcharge if they are the only shop around, we have all been gouged once. She was up charged by $100 on the labor at least.

I had the same tires for my Teneré. The bill for mounting in the Netherlands is € 435 tax included. Mounting and balancing was € 50. It are just expensive tires

Wonderful Miss Kinga, I am so sorry you were treated that way at another darley stealership. They have none of the integrity HD was built on anymore! They do not hire mechanics anymore, they just hire "technicians"! And they stubble on anything that isn't a darley or have a computer to tell them what is wrong. It is a shame! Fairbanks doesn't look like it changed much from being there in the 90s. The boys story is a tragic one! So many people think it's easy to just walk off the paved road and into an adventure in the wild, then the wilds in one way or another eats them that are ill prepared. I used to teach an Arctic Survival class and it never ceased to amaze me how many couch potatoes there were in America with no clue. I do hope the outrageous costs in Alaska doesn't tarnish your opinion of the "Land of the Midnight Sun", it is quite spectacular in any season. I’m no expert, but been googling online prices for those Bridgestone At41 tires? Walmart and Amazon have them for nearly $200 a piece!

Terrible price for tyre changing. They have you by the short & curlys when in remote places. Plus no bookings and having to wait all day. Should have named and shamed.

There are two groups of people with opinion on Christopher McCandless. Those who think he was a visionary and those who think he was a dumb F. I am in the second group. Shooting a bear with a .22 rim fire is not smart. The worst thing he could have traveled a couple of miles and there was a cable basket river crossing of the river. No I will eat unknown mushrooms and die.
