What Happened To The Enterprise-B? - Star Trek Starships Explained
Ойын-сауық
The Enterprise is the legendary icon of Star Trek! While we know the fate of most of the starships called Enterprise, apart from whatever Mr Worf did to the USS Enterprise-E, the USS Enterprise-B is still a mystery. It made one proper appearance in the movie “Star Trek: Generations”, but we don’t know anything about it after that. Except that most of it’s stuff was installed on Tuesday of course.

Of course Captain Picard had to go down to deflector dish control, because Captain Kirk wasn't due to visit until Tuesday.

why was most stuff installed on the enterprise B on Tuesday? why not Monday or Wednesday? why did it have to be on Tuesday?
After getting into that wreck ("it was the nexus"...whatever you say Harriman...) and misplacing Kirk all on its first mission, starfleets insurance provider decided that it would be easier to total the whole thing out.
I forget which novel or sourcebook (definitely not primary canon) that I saw it in, but that the idea was that the Enterprise-B subclass' 'cheeks' on the secondary hull were side-projecting sensor arrays powerful enough to see deep into the neutral zone and keep track of Romulan vessels. The ships could race up and down the border getting as much sensor data as possible and creating a database of Romulan vessels identified by their various energy signatures. Like tracking and identifying IRL submarines by the quirks of their machinery noises.

Always my favorite ship by far. Generations blew my mind and still does. Enterprise B rocks.
I figure it served until the Enterprsie C was ready to launch. It seems the excelsior class had a very long lifespan. The real question is how long did starfleet go without an Enterprsie in service between Ent C to the launch of Ent D?
@KnightRanger38

Depending on the source between 18 and 19 years between the destruction of Enterprise C and the commissioning of D (2344 and either 2362 or 2363).

Hadn't thought about that before. Seems kinda weird since the big E was if not the actual flagship at least the poster child for starfleet for so long before and after. Plus on more than one occasion they've been willing to rename a ship to get am important name back into commission.
@daltysmilth
Ай бұрын
Well, in Picard, the only Enterprises we know survived into the 24th century are the original NX-01 (modified sometime after the end of the Enterprise), the Enterprise A, and the D, though technically just the saucer section paired up with the stardrive section of another Galaxy class ship. Which means it’s in kind of a Starship of Theseus scenario.

There's just something with the design that doesn't sit right with me. I'm guessing since I'm not a fan of the C either that part of it is the angled nacelle pylons. It just feels out of place when generally each iteration gets smoother and more blended. I rather like the main saucer, and the 4 impulse look, and given a choice, I prefer the "cheeks" version of the secondary over the smooth.

I personally never liked the Excelsior Class Starships. To me at least, they always looked as if they were pregnant.
I've always enjoyed the canon that the Enterprise B was under the command of Sulu's daughter and was lost due to a pathogen in the Beta quadrant. I even used that as an opening to a fanfic where the last of the crew are about to set the self-destruct before they fall victim to the pathogen to keep the ship from falling into the wrong hands then end up being transported to the Delta quadrant when Voyager falls prey to a Hirogen attack, the crew forced to use the Enterprise B as Voyager is nearly destroyed before being rescued. Too bad I never got past a few chapters, few people want to read my type of off-brand fanfiction and I wasn't going to write it for no one to read.

I've written three novels (Not fan fiction for Trek) and a few people have read them, but not too many. I still find it rewarding. I encourage you to write, even if just for yourself.
Ive always wondered what the in universe explanation was as to why earth always seems to be woefully short on starships when it hits the fan. Aside from having multiple shipyards in system or nearby, youd think being the seat of power would rate some kind of prestige fleet reserve just for image. Or at least some kind of "first step/last line" of starbases in the near vicinity with either permanent ships or enough traffic in and out to qualify as an emergency reaction force. I know starfleet "isnt military" except when they are, but it still seems like a glaring oversight.
@Antonio-ui2mh
Ай бұрын
Especially after Earth was attacked by the Zindi and the Breen. A Borg cube reached earth twice. When Voyager returned home 18 ships with an additional 9 were sent to intercept the Borg sphere that carried Voyager home. Starfleet definitely needs some sort of home defense fleet.
Far more importantly I'd like to know exactly what's going on with that Excelsior Class so-called secondary shuttle bay underneath. There's all sorts of technical looking bits and pieces there, a very deflector or warp core looking blue light going on and lots of exposed bulkheads and beams without floors, walls or ceiling, and no bay doors. Whoever designed this model intentionally put a lot of work and focus into to it for a reason but there ain't no way that's for shuttles or vessels of any kind. Looks more like some docking frame in there for a space station to clasp with or something else. If would have been far easier for the designer and model construction to simply close it off, add shuttle bay doors and a photon torp launcher, windows etc but they took a far more complicated approach to that area of the ship and it must have been for a very good reason. It's always triggered my interest and we rarely get to see a good look at what's actually there in great detail.
I actually really love the two ENT-B Lost Era novels. It's fun to know what could have been with the crew and Demora Sulu as captain.
I would have loved to see the dockmaster after the enterprise B came back to dock after the nexus incident....... "Welcome back enterprise!!!! Hope you had a easy and good cruise!!!! *WTF DID YOU DO????* You launch for a fun PR cruise for the reporters and come back with this damage????? Captain you are going to report to me now!!!! You are going to be commanding a moon shuttle!!!!
It would be amazing to see a Star Trek show that is based in the Enterprise b error
The Enterprise B is my favorite Enterprise. The design is soooo different than any other ship. The C goes back the the more traditional saucer/secondary hull of the Constitution class ships. Although, my next favorite is Big D. It's the ship I "grew up on"...TNG.
Cheers Adam
According to the Star Trek novels, the Enterprise-B, after his encounter with Kirk and company, Captain Harriman made a name for himself to command the legacy. On Tuesday. 😊
It got blowed up on Monday.
I like to think the Enterprise-B had a long and distinguished service record under several different captains and was simply retired after several decades in the field. Maybe she was even the Enterprise that was around the longest perhaps.

Adam you are the best
Imagine having such a horrible first voyage, the admiral of the previous version of your ship dies saving everyone, I'd be warry of captaining that ship.
If they can do an excellent series on Pike’s Enterprise, I think they can pull of a series about Enterprise B! Let’s go!
Am not a Trekkie , but still watched the Original TV episodes back in the Day , if its one thing I liked apart from Lt Ohura was the Enterprise an its Variants..
Loving when Adam narrates. 🎉
Adam, you're due a promotion, lad. Well done.
Was the captain’s ability to command supposed to be installed on Tuesday😂😂
Come to to think of it, maybe Malcom did not install the "phase cannons" on the Enterprise NX-01 (phasers on later class ships) until Tuesday.
You seem to have changed a lot on the way down to deflector control, Jean-Luc! LOL!!!
A Star Trek story I'm planning to write features Enterprise-B being recovered and used by the crew of the Cerritos, mainly the Lower Deckers, to save the entire California Class. I also hope to give the Enterprise-B a proper send off.
In the second genesis video game, Star Trek the next generation there is a dossier of the USS enterprise B located in the computers library information. I believe it gave a description of what happened to the ship. I still have the game and my genesis, but don’t know if itwould even work today. I suppose I can try to collect the stuff scattered across my own home in my parents to see if it still works. If it does, I can rip the information Off and post it.
I think you got Picard and Kirk confused.. 😂
4.44 you say Picard 😂
Forgive me if im wrong but its the 4th ship to have the name, not the third. NX01, NCC1701, NCC 1701-A (I know NX01 was pre-federation, but it was in service when the federation was formed so its still a federation ship)
Kirk had to disappear in order to meet Picard
How dare you steps down on picard 4:40😂
Star Trek Legacy could even tell the story of what happened to the B, keep the rumours mentioned in the show but say, something happens in deep space with the G and they find the ruined hulk of the B. Seven's crew are able to get back with the G being far more advanced being able to utilize what ever brought them to said place where the B resided. All records recovered by Seven and her crew. Just a thought.
You said “CPT Picard went below decks…”. Duhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhgghhgggg!
Any chance you could do something on the First Federation and the Christmas decoration of a starship, The Fesarius?
You mentioned they had no torpedoes. Any idea when those were due to arrive ?
I'm looking forward to your video on the USS ENTERPRISE NCC 1701 C......

Some people think The Enterprise B was simple re-named into the Lacota.
@dustinkosman6615
Ай бұрын
That’s what I think too. Except that my theory (yes I have my own theory) is that the Enterprise-B was retired from Starfleet in 2329 and was placed in museum status for the next 39 years. The ship would re-enter service in the wake of the Battle of Wolf 359 as the USS Lakota (NCC-42768) in 2368.
In the Enterprise technical manual, it's explained that the Enterprise-B had a somewhat illustrious career after the events of Generations (which saw Harriman relieved of command). In the Tomed Incident of 2311, the Enterprise-B had a cloaking device installed and entered the Neutral Zone. Following that, Demora Sulu was promoted to Captain and took the ship on a 4-year exploration mission. In 2329, while on another such mission, the entire ship contracted a mysterious and ultimately uncontrollable virus that wiped out the crew. (It's worth noting that both that book and the Next Generation Technical Manual clearly state that the Enterprise-A was the Yorktown repaired and renamed).
I'm gonna say before this video starts, that they are still waiting for the warp drive to be installed.
I believe its due to launch next Tuesday when the medical staff and tractor beam get installed.
Captain Picard? Temporal Investigations don't arrive until Tuesday
would love to have a series with the B we dont know much at all of it
I kind of like the idea that the Enterprise B was decommissioned and the recommissioned the Lakota to free up the name for the Enterprise C.
10:13 - And look! There is Tuvok! I never understand that episode in Star Trek: Voyager!
It was lost on a Tuesday
Ferris took it for a spin around Chicago
Loved it
According to novels that were cannon the enterprise B was decommissioned after devora sulu took command. The romulan and kilingon war began.
There is a commemorative plaque dedicated to the earlier vessels named Enterprise and the small components that were incorporated in 1701-B. This tradition actually goes back to the late 20th century started as a joke by some p/t Nasa interns that were part of the workforce that was prepping the Space Shuttle Enterprise for transportation to it's final mission as a museum piece. The interns snuck several box end and socket wrench tools and proceeded to remove 6 bolts and nuts from Space Shuttle Enterprise's zero G toilet mockup and a grand tradition was born! In an event lost to time 1701's very first Captain Robert T April handed this historic paper sandwich bag now over 200 years old to his Chief Engineer and told him to get on it. After much swearing and drilling the Chief Engineer was finally able to use those 6 historic bolts to secure the captain's toilet to the deck in his quarter's head. Decades later when the broken down hulk of the soon to be former USS Yorktown was towed into Spacedock to hastily have it's name and registry number scraped off Commander Scott continued the tradition. While prepping Enterprise to be stolen he quickly removed the bolts from Kirks toilet. Scotty had a hunch if he didn't do it then there was a good chance that the beat up Enterprise would not be coming back. And after handing the legendary commode fittings to a jr. grade tech to install the fittings and the proud tradition continued!
I just realized that they used wrong model of Excelsior. As Enterprise-B is clearly the Lakota class.
We need an enterprise b era series
When did Tuvok go from Excelsior to the Enterprise B? You would think Sulu would be smart and keep a Vulcan onboard unless the new captain thought it wouldn't be The Enterprise without one.
Theoretically interesting!

I think they list the Enterprise-B as the third, because it is the third U.S.S. Enterprise. As much as we love the NX-01, it was a pre-Federation ship. It was only called 'Enterprise', not 'U.S.S. Enterprise'. This may seem like a hypertechnicality to some, but one thing I've learned from dealing with bureaucrats (and Starfleet is known for having a LOT of them!) is that hypertechnicalities can make all the difference.

By the time the federation had formed, Starfleet had moved away from the old NX's onto Warp 7 capable ships. Enterprise was the first NX so it makes sense that by the time the federation had been finalized and the United Earth Starfleet had been folded into the Federation Starfleet the NX-01 had been decommissioned.

Here is wild theory, considering official synopsis states Georgiou will be confronted by the "sins of her past" What if the film turns the Tomed incident into a even bigger cover up that now includes an invasion from Terran Empire. Like the Terran Empire invaded the Prime universe & took over these Stafleet star bases near the Neutral Zone...with the goal to provoke a war with the Federation and Romulan Empire.

It was the 4th ship to bear the name....
Perhaps one day the Enterprise-B will be discovered adrift in space.
Installed on Tuesday. Just got me thinking, would days actually have any meaning in space? Everyone on different planets and all. Even if we keep it just to humanity what happens if they keep the tradition on naming there days sequentially m-s Tuesday on Earth isn't going to mean a lot on Mars.
The Excelsior-class Enterprise-B would be the 4th starship with the name Enterprise, the NX-01 Enterprise; The Constitution-class Enterprise NCC-1701; Constellation-class Enterprise NCC-1701-A, & finally, the Excelsior-class NCC-1701-B Enterprise.
The Enterprise B was not the third federation ship to bear the name Enterprise, but the fourth (after NX-01, NC-1701 and A).

My question is - what ever happened to quantum torpedoes?
The B started it's mission from spacedock in orbit of Earth, right? So how did the Nexus get so close to Earth and nobody noticed it?
I believed that the USS Enterprise B's crew was wiped out by a plague. Starfleet flagships defeat to a virus brought shame to Starfleet and the Federation who proudly trailblazed science and medical technology. They recovered the vessel; which was still a powerhouse of a ship, and rechristened it to the USS Lakota where it humbly served Starfleet up to the Dominion war. The "USS Lakota" stood a decent chance against the modern USS Defiant due to it being overpowered for its time. It is the only Excelsior class to have the Enterprise B's unique variant design seen while normal Excelsiors were still to be found in active service.
What series is this
Yes tomed i think was first mentioned in tng season one just the date and incident. Funny i never read that book but i read a different book , koybashi maru short stories about different trek characters and the test , Scotty used the transporter to beam torpedoes, and in voyager they did it with the borg ( dark frontier)
Wait, Starfleet acted like a military? I thought Picard swore they were never a military power.
@kaneo1
Ай бұрын
They were in denial. It was absolutely the Fed military. They simply tried to spend more time on bunting and goodwill tours than gunnery & fleet exercises. Wolf 359 & Dominion war shook them up enough to wake back up.
Wasn't the Agamemnon a scientific ship without any type of armament. Just basic shields? Am I right or wrong on that.
The Enterprise B was decommissioned, given a refit then sold to a Privateer at a Starfleet Auction!
It became the Lakota :O

Could of sworn the Enterprise-B made first contact with Cardassia
I always hated how EVERYTIME it’s only the Enterprise that’s within range of “whatever.” Where the F are all the other ships in Starfleet???
I guess AI will create Enterprise-B drama series and the story that Kirk returns in near future...
wouldn't it be the 4th ship to be called enterprise? nx 01 ,ncc1701, 1701 a, then 1701 b ?
FORTH Federation ship to bear the name Enterprise. NX01 Enterprise - the Federation was created while the NX01 was still in service. At least that's my understanding from the last episode of Enterprise NCC1701 NCC1701-A NCC1701-B, being the forth :p
@0:37 -- "With the arrival of the Enterprise-C in STNG, we know something must have happened to the -B." I disagree with the assumption that the Enterprise-B must have suffered some kind of bad fate. Sometimes, ships just reach the end of their service life and are retired.
@jonseyrocks3226
Ай бұрын
This is the Enterprise we're talking about. So far, only the NX and the "-A" have managed to make it to retirement (and even then both had significantly shorter service lives, with the A only getting 7 years). The No-Bloody-A, C, and D all fell in battle. The F was slated for early decommissioning (was it ever officially explained why?), and what happened to the E was so horrifying that it could not be said out loud, though Worf still claims innocence. Seems like being named the Enterprise raises the chances of the ship not making it to its planned EOL significantly.
I'll gladly pay you Tuesday for a tractor beam today.
