Nothing against anyone who likes the G, but I felt is was criminal that the only time we get to see the Enterprise F is when she is being decommissioned. It could be my bias, but the Odyssey is far and away the better looking and equipped than the G

You know what? That's one beautiful ship. This is honestly what I hoped the Galaxy class would have looked like back when TNG first aired. She's got sleek, flowing lines. Like a classic (Italian) sports car. And it makes her look a lot smaller than she is. Like she's in motion standing still. It's a toss-up for me between the relatively sleek brutality of the Excelsior class and this one for my favourite Star Trek ships. To me, both are the most gorgeous of their respective era's.

I desperately want a series set on board an Odyssey Class. It's glorious, like a natural evolution of the Sovereign. I also want to see the successor to it in the 2450s, which would be the same sort of shape and size, but with the dish moved back slightly and the nacelles lengthened and moved forward slightly such that the two merge like a horseshoe crab, with the red bits melded into the top of the dish, and fixing the number 1 weakness of starfleet vessels - the nacelle pylons.

Based on how small the Enterprise-F's bridge we see in Picard is, I'm wondering if it was actually the battle bridge. If I recall, the justification for the F's retirement was that it had suffered significant internal damage on it's last mission, perhaps this included the main bridge?

When they had the design the next Enterprise contest for Star Trek Online, I thought the winning sketch was pretty ugly. But what the STO team did with that starting point really became a beautiful ship. I'm very sad with how it was treated in Picard S3. And then succeeded by the horrible mess of how they justified the creation of an Enterprise G.

Which is why I think the ship is more Cryptic's design than the competition winner. Incidentally, Cryptic conspicuously did not mention that guy when announcing the Odyssey/F's debut in Picard (possibly due to that guy's caustic political views), until some idiot went around social media and reddit chastising Cryptic for not thanking "the REAL designer". Cryptic did make a variant based on the competition design, and man is it ugly.

It wouldn't be like Voyager in the Delta Quadrant because the space between galaxies is empty. For intergalactic multigenerational travel, you have something like the Universe class from the 26th Century, IMO. It's 3219m long, like a small mobile city in space. Potentially, with the full benefits of one and a whole ecosystem inside. Thus, no cramped corridors of your typical starship. That's better for mental health in the long run. This is my second favorite ship, closely following behind my favorite Akira-class. While its the design aesthetic, carrier capability, and torpedo launcher count that attracts me to the Akira, almost everything about the Odyssey is just a big YES for me. And now that we have a proper internal schematic (though not deck-by-deck), it is on par with my favorite. Always gives me more appreciation for a ship to know the actual details about its design and what it has. And the bridge is absoLUTELY gorgeous, it fits the whole Star Trek aesthetic to a T, while being unique from any other hero bridge we've seen. On a side note, my 3rd place ship/s are the original Dyson ships, with that marble white hull and dark grey lines that sometimes had purple lights. Absolutely love them, they maintain a trekkie look, while being alien in origin. Love the whole idea of their use of different technology too, such as the proton weaponry, gravimetric torpedoes, protonic metaphasic shielding, and so on. Plus, the science destroyers could transform slightly to armor some weakspots and the secondary deflector, and reveal heavy proton cannons. And the Obelisk Carrier? love the whole idea of a carrier that mass-fabricates swarmer drones.

Even though the F was decommissioned early? I doubt that it’s the last we’ll see of her, she’s slated to join her predecessors at Athan Prime, and, I would like to think, will probably be there until she’s called again in 2410, one year after the Enterprise-G is sacrificed to prevent an Undine invasion, when she’s possibly recommissioned for one last cheer, and one last battle through time itself. I think she would win the day but be critically damaged due to her handicap, But if that does happen? Something tells me she’d partake in similar origins to her Successor’s original predecessor, and would be stripped down and rebuilt from the frame up, into the Yorktown-Class Enterprise-H.

Beautifully designed ship. The low armament is confusing, though, as it was supposed to also be an anti-Borg ship capable of carrying the flag in wartime. That might be outdated beta canon stuff, though.

I mean, we know starfleet are a wee bit thick. This thing should have the deployable armour tech from Voyager, Beverley's transphasic shields, transphasic torpedos from Voyager, dual warp cores for redundancies, multiple core shield generators for rotating recharge, and so much more. They should have surveillance cameras everywhere, and security routines which lock on to any unknown DNA and beam it into the buffer. Instead, they go for BS like saucer separation and MVAM. Gimmicks. Very silly. "Captain, the - are boarding us!" "Computer, defence mode 6" "bssshp" "Intruders neutralised and ready to be beamed one at a time to the brig" 😂😂

Not necessarily (low armament=bad Borg) We know from the Destiny Trilogy that SF policy on anti-borg weapon/tactics is closer to "sniper rifle" rather than "machine gun" Now while it could be argued that the more tubes firing at once, the quicker Borg shields would be overwhelmed... But it also increases the risk that if your weapon (say, a transphasic torpedo with variable subspace geometry) isn't powerful enough to 1-shot KO then the more times you fire it the greater chance the Borg will adapt to it, so you only really "need" 2 or 3 tubes (1 main, 1 back up, and a spare) for those super weapons

All the video's I've binge-watched of yours has finally convinced me to play STO (on XBox, cause I can't do a keyboard) and I LOVE the game. Can you tell me though, how to get the Odyssey class you use? I see different variants so I'm just wondering... Just starting though, at level 56 so getting there.

Given the massive size and wide mission profile i like the idea of using saucer separation as more of a utility than the galaxy class. i.e. leave the saucer in orbit around a central world/place of importance as an impromptu base of operations/temporary starbase, while the drive section and Aquarius continue semi independently running missions to nearby systems, feels like it would have great implications for speeding up deep space exploration, or managing inter-system operations. Staffing three ships with such a complicated setup might be weird though, at the very least requiring the officer in charge to be designated fleet captain, and possibly justifying a permanent admiralty presence on board?

Given that Scotty was on the design team for this ship, the look of the Aquarius craft takes on a new feel to it, given that it sort of invokes the shape of the Jenolan where they found him.

I love your videos, and particularly when you talk about the Impulse drives. But, does the impulse drive not push the craft faster than light speed, because I seem to remember a TNG episode where the Enterprise D travels from Neptune to Earth in 9 or 19 minutes, Wesley was driving.

Full impulse power is .25 the speed of light, which equals 167,654,157.25 MPH. The distance between Earth and Neptune is over 2.8 billion miles, which would take over 17 hours at full impulse.

I always envisioned this as an Explorer type starship for extreme deep space operations and colonization. Given the size and slipstream, it functions more like a mobile Starbase being able to supply small fleets and deploy outposts on new worlds.

Now, if only in the new series, they can actually improve the internal lighting of the ships. Used to be the internal lighting of federation, ships were quite bright. Now they're dark and dower. You would think a virgining type 2 civilization that's mastered using anti-matter as a power source for interstellar spaceships would have the ability to (light) the inside of the spaceships.

Honestly if you're going full on to fight the Borg. I wish they also had added a spinal particle lance. Similar to the Galaxy Class Dreadnought. Spinal weapons are so rare in starfleet and they look surprisingly good placed on the lower saucer section.

The Odyssey Class has actually grown on me over the last couple of years, thanks in large part to Picard Season 3. My only real complaints with its design are with the placement of the Bridge along with its ridiculous size (personal preference: I like the Bridge lining up evenly with the Sensor dome beneath the Saucer, and while I like certain aspect within the Bridge, I prefer it not being the size of shopping center; call me old fashioned, but as a viewer I prefer the intimate feel of the TOS/TMP/Various TNG-era bridge sizes.) My other issue is with some refit designs of the Odyssey having forward leaning pylons for the Nacelles, which makes the ship look an ugly turkey as opposed to an Elegant Bird with the swept back pylons. The only ship design that forward pylon configuration works for is the Galaxy Class. Speaking of the Galaxy Class, with the Odyssey Class being significantly larger than the Galaxy and the state of the Galaxy being in relative peace, does the Odyssey ships have civilians/families on board?

During the time when a friend of mine got me to playing the first ( or second? 🤔 ) Star Trek Armada Game I somehow managed to end up on a Star Trek Forum ( probably also because of him ) where at the time they ran a contest of designing a new Star Trek Hero Ship with I think the basic guideline just being that it should easily be recognizable as a Federation designed Ship. Plenty of submissions had already happened at the time I entered with nothing _really_ standing out ( except for stuff _really_ not following the Guideline ) and having just watched Voyager I was kinda enamored with that ships lengthwise stretched design over the Galaxy Classes Oval one so on I went into 3DS Max and whipped out a _very_ rough low poly model ( no textures, no Greeblies, etc... ) of what one would now identify as an Odyssey Class Ship with its two Pylons connecting the Saucer with the rest of the Ship in a flowing manner ( creating that empty space in-between them when looked at from the front / rear ) which people liked _a lot_ back then since a) it _was_ still in the spirit of the Federation and b) it still looked different enough. Haven't followed up what happened to that Hero Ship Contest but man... Seeing the design of the now Odyssey _really_ makes me question the outcome of it - If you get what I mean 😏

Modularity in space vessels seems like a good idea, but what I want to know is why doesn't Starfleet have dedicated carrier ships? Imagine a massive vessel that can unleash a swarm of hundreds or maybe even thousands of small attack fighters. We don't see anything like that in Star Trek.
