What happened to the 1980 US Men's Hockey Team?

The 1980 Olympic Men's Hockey team's Gold Medal Win captured the hearts of the nation. But after the games closed, and the excitement faded, what happened to these men who were a part of Team USA’s “Miracle on Ice”?
After a break, we have regrouped and rebranded, adding new members to our team, and improved on our videos. Check them out on The Adam Archive.

Thank you for this. I'm happy to see so many of these guys have done well in life. I grieve for Mark Pavelich. A wonderful member of my family died, of Alzheimer's, a few years ago. He left his brain to science. He had played both football and rugby, at Harvard.

As a native Minnesotan living in Mpls. in the late 70's, I attended numerous Herb Brooks coached Gopher games When the Olympic team was formed, including 12 Minnesotans, I attended a few pre-Olympic games at the Met Center in Bloomington, MN , the teams home ice Never expected Gold. Never. Loved watching them develop, but it was beyond dreams to think could not only best Russia, but best everyone (Sweden tie). I'll never forget it. Made me proud to be a Minnesotan.

This video means a lot to me. I'm 69 years old and played a lot of pond hockey and made it up thru JV hockey while at Burnsville HS, a suburb of Minneapolis. During my college years at Augsburg in the mid-70's, the Uof M men's hockey team would pracice on the Augsburg sheet because Williams Arena wasn't ready at the beginning of the season. I witnessed a couple of practices and recognized Bill Baker, Neal Broten and a few other players. Nobody skates like an Iron Ranger. Best of all I watched their drills and especially the "Herbies". Unbelievable. These guys are my age. Of the 20 man roster for the 1980 Men's Olympic hockey team, eleven were products of Minnesota youth hockey programs and HS programs. Of course I am biased....but I believe Minnesota had a lot to do with the success of that team.

It’s hard to believe it’s been more than 44 years since this “Miracle” took place. It’s of no surprise to me that many of these gentlemen are motivational speakers. I’m sure that they very impressions and memories of this monumental achievement. From a 62 year old guy in Canada…Thanks for the memories to everyone involved and RIP to those no longer with us

We didn't suffer from the lost game. Next year Soviet team won Canada Cup and the greatest Canadian team was beaten in final 8:1. But anyway the USA team was awesome and it was great to see the people celebrating the victory. Sports should connect people and we like hockey for its being unpredictable.

A great group of men. I watched the game. The Russians were thought to be almost unbeatable, and the players like parts of a machine. I will concede it was the greatest game ever played but in a tie with Canadas unbelievable game 8 victory over the Soviets in thebseries of the century in 1972. Hey im Canadian. Unforgettable games.Bravo to the Miracle on Ice.

There are highlights of the 1978 World Championships between the USSR and the USA. Most of the players were NHL'ers for the US. However Mark Johnson and Ken Morrow were in that game while still in the NCAA. That US team pumped 4 goals past Tretiak before the mid point of the 2nd period to tie at 4-4. Mark Johnson got at least one assist. The players born from 1955-58 in the US were better than their counterparts in Czechoslovakia Sweden and as good as the USSR. A mythical 1976-77 NCAA model best of USA Team if all players played in NCAA. G Baker Skidmore Petrovek RD Larson-O'Connell-Morrow LD Langway - Baker- Dunn -Roberts C - Howe -Eaves- Johnson-Miller-Hansen W-Fidler-Mullen-Jensen-Holmgren Debol-Rowe-Carlson-Gorence-Burns That group was as good as the 1955-58 born USSR.

The only thing that beat this series was when Canada went to war with Russia in 1972. It was the first and Canada was conned as they were lead to believe the Russians would be lucky to win one game out of 8 against our Canadian pro hockey players. Canada won the series in Russia by 1 goal coming from behind all the way. It was war on ice.
