What happened to Sean O'Hair? | Golf Stories

Спорт

For every great Earl and Tiger Woods relationship, there’s a Marc and Sean O’Hair relationship in golf. Despite Sean O’Hair’s estranged relationship with his father, he seemed to have found his own rhythm in the late 2000s. At one point, he even had the most wins for any PGA Tour player under 30. However, over this past decade, he has not replicated the same success.

His father is rightfully criticized for his treatment of Sean as young person. That valid criticism notwithstanding, he is also due some significant credit for Sean's development as golfer.

Yes & no. Takes two to Tango. Too Easy & Unfair to blame the Dad so much. We live in a very "snow-flakey" soft world now. Obviously his Dad meant well for Sean & pushed him to become a champion. Sometimes the kids are not cut out to take it, Parents are not very mature & kids not meant to become champions. But to blame every time a pushed kid fails, solely, on their parents is too simplistic, selfish & mean. Yes, there need to be boundaries & mutual respect. But Mental toughness in the kid has to come from some place. Take DeChambeau & Matt Wolf's examples, both grew up with poor & separated parents (relatively) love-less childhood. One one hand, it's cruel for the kid, on the other hand, if the kid can learn how to handle it, the kid comes out way stronger mentally than an average kid. Tiger's parents were not easy on him either, but his Dad was super smart with his communication style. Earl already had 3 other kids with his 1st wife & he was 44 yrs old by the time he had Tiger, so he was experienced & careful in raising Tiger. Xander Schauffele's Dad Stefan was not popular either in San Diego community & gave tough love to Xander, but Xander was OK to take it. When kids like Sean O'Hair, Reed, Andre Agassi etc blame their parents, they are missing something big & it says a lot about them as well.

Thanks for this enlightening video. Sean O’Hair has been my favorite PGA tour player since the 60 minute episode. I’ve followed him religiously since. I’ve met him several times and got to spend a little time with Jackie at one of the Waste Management tournaments in Scottsdale. Funny, he recently (June 2020) bought a home a home in Scottsdale’s Lost Canyon community. That’s a far departure from Pennsylvania. I’m hoping he can make it back in 2020. This weekend he resumes his career at the Safeway Open in Napa, California. The years are going by quickly and it’s going to be tough. But I’ll be following his every shot on Shotlink and rooting for him all the way.

I was guessing I would only have to read the first 2 comments before I come across someone blaming Foley. I was dead on and got Ledbetter as a bonus. Both are swing coaches and O'Hair has no swing issues. It's by his own words, the putter.

I admire him so much...a victim of narcasistic abuse...do not underestimate the long term damage that causes. Its fascinating that he got mind blown by to much advice re putting...victims of narcasistic abuse have to work on boundaries...when to say no and who they trust....I really hope he comes back healthy and shows his talent.

If the only thing holding him back was a cold putter, maybe he should look at what Bryson did and get himself into the top 10 for putting.
