However, I think he can turn his career around but I do not know what he needs to do to do that. All I hope is that Dubois doesn't hurt OV's chances to get that 891th goal! 1for1, WAS got the better on paper, so the Caps came on top in my opinion. Hopefully, his contract doesn't become a curse, because 2030-31 is a long time.🤣

    Washington has a ton of cap space and Kemper on 5m+ as a back-up when they have Shepard and Stevenson in the wings made no sense. That 8.5m cap hit isn't a problem for them especially considering they aren't going to be big FA players. For those who did not follow PLD's junior career's in the QJMHL. He also threw a fit on his 3rd season with the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles. He then twisted the arm of Cape Breton's GM to trade him to the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada as he preferred that team as the Armada is a team in the northern suburbs of Montreal. In essence, that guy has been a huge pain in the rear for every GM of every team he ever played for since his junior days. I am so glad that the Habs did not trade for him last summer.

    Having watched every game PLD played this season and playoffs here are my thoughts: 60% of the blame goes to the GM and President of Hockey Ops -they didnt deploy PLD in the roles he had found success in -they surrounded him with AHL bottom 6 players and rookies -they didnt do their due diligence on PLDs character before pulling off the trade -overpaid contract 40% of the blame goes to PLD -would phone in games -lacked drive and motivation Regarding Keumper, too many ppl are forgetting about how good LA's defensive system helps goalies. Conpare Korpisalo and Talbot's stats when they played in Ottawa vs when they played in LA. Goalies rebound when playing behind LA's defense, look at Rittich this season. Keumper will he fine. I'd predict he rebounds and averages around .920 SV next season

  • @karlpaquette6139

    What I've read about Kemper is that hes a goalie who plays HIS game no matter what. Some guys accepted the system or lean out of their comfort zone to keep the coaches happy. Thats NOT Kemper. And what exactly is HIS game? Staying in his net, staying calm, tracking lucks methodically, cutting down angles and letting his better than average rebound control do the heavy lifting. LAs defense will absolutely LOVE that! They dont need a lot of 5 bell saves with their system- they need a guy who can do his job and do it consistently and Kemper is going to be THAT guy- id bet dollars to doughnuts... And they move out a problematic contract? Blake will never get back Vivaldi and the rest of it hut he was never going to here- he did quite well...

  • @CR_240

    @@karlpaquette6139 Agreed. I think Keumper will be a good match with LA's system. He previously had over .930 SV with LA. Regarding what Blake gave up for PLD -Vilardi, very injury prone -Kupari, terrible bust -Iafallo, overpaid 4th line The pieces of value that were lost in the PLD trade were probably the 2nd Rd pick and Vilardi. Losing Kupari and Iafallo was negligible.

    In a remarkable post game interview last season the Washington coach Carberry directly pointed out the lack of offensive ability in the team. • @xzryanxzx

    Dubois has immense skill. Very talented player. He just doesn't want to put the work in. Look at an old Colorado and Columbus player Matt Calvert. Was he the most skilled player? No. He never had more than 30 points in a season. He did however give it his all every single shift. One year on the Avs he led the team in fighting majors. He's 5'11" 186lbs. He was always getting into the dirty areas, playing hard, and mucking it up. Always in the scrums. Fans and teammates LOVED this guy. His final words when he retired were, "Colorado, and Columbus, I would bleed for those teams any day". Legend. If Dubois had even HALF that work ethic, he would be a much better player. How can a guy like Calvert, who put up 4th line numbers, be more sought after than a guy like Dubois who has put up multiple 60 point seasons. Work ethic.

    I think this is a definitive win for the Kings. I’d be shocked if PLD can turn it around with the Caps, nothing is impossible but if he couldn’t do it for his preferred team… I think a big part is hope by many accounts he’s a cancer in the room. If there’s discord within the room it can absolutely affect the whole team, and getting rid of that can strengthen the team as a whole. So not only do they offload a player whose salary is way too high for his performance and compete level, they also potentially improve things in the room. And without retaining salary. Big win imo

  • @mikeb.2925
    @mikeb.29257 күн бұрын

    Nobody has questioned his talent. Washington is short on talent. Yeah he is expensive but Washington can afford it. They gave up nothing to get PLD as many thought Kuemper's contract was immovable. Is PLD a 1C? No. But he is certainly a 2C talent and production wise. He comes in as Washington's best and he'll get the opportunity to play big minutes. I expect him to be about 65-70pts. The term doesn't matter as if it doesn't work out, PLD will ask out and waive the NTC. Good move by Washington with zero cost, minimal risk and pretty good upside.

This isn’t hyperbole, look it up.

    He's a child in an absolutely able star status body that aspires to be a leader only in a beer league where he can be truly worshipped. Hows a guy that's played his whole life not understand a role on what he is to do. He just requires hand holding and constant petting with treats. Will find safety and assurance once he reaches beer league status.

    So since the Caps didn't sign this nutty contract with Dubois, are they bound by the NMC? I remember the Canucks had a player in the last 5 years (Miller?) and they were entertaining the idea of trading him before he was resigned (I believe the contract before this one) and they chose not to honour the NTC that he signed with Tampa. Ultimately, they kept him, obviously, but they could have moved him anywhere they wanted on the contract he signed with the Bolts because they didn't sign it with him in the first place. I'm wondering if Washington has to honour the NMC.

    I forget who said it but on SiriusXM someone said that Dubois has all the talent in the world but he looks like he just doesn’t like hockey. Watching him all last season, it sure as hell looked like he didn’t enjoy playing hockey at all. Glad the Kings got rid of him and didnt have to give up a draft or retain any of his salary to do it.

    The guy probably has a huge ego and seems to be quite selfish, or at the very least immature. There is a big chance that he thinks the world owes him everything. I hope for Caps’ fans that he didn’t just stop trying because he signed his huge 8yrs contract and that he has nothing to gain anymore by putting the effort. I’m not sure why the Caps traded for him, but there is almost no way that they won’t regret it within the next few years.

    PLD won't EVER play up to any of his so-called potential. Having watched every single game he played this year in LA, we couldn't be more excited to get this cancer out of the organization. With Blake at the helm, our management is truly mismanaged, but I'm amazed anybody would watch tape on this guy and take on his contract. It's delusional with his track record. ELATED TO AVOID WATCHING HIM COAST AROUND THE ICE FOR THE NEXT 7 YEARS!!!!! In truth, Winnipeg did the best in gaining fantastic assets while also moving PLD. As a lifelong Kings fan, just not watching his pathetic lack of heart nightly is well worth whatever it took to cut him out of the organization. GKG.

    As a Caps fan, I'm about 50-50 on this. If PLD plays to 65-80% of his potential, I see this as an absolute win for WSH. Maybe Carbury will be able to work some magic, who knows. But getting rid of a $5.3 AAV backup tender and "upgrading" at a position of need kinda helps both teams

    He’s a genuine top 6 forward - multiple 60 point seasons prove he can play at a high level. He CAN be that guy Washington needs now that Kuz and Backstrom are both gone, but whether he phones in shifts or gets his act sorted and puts in the effort is what makes all the difference. I hope the Caps can get the top-6 PLD instead of the bottom-6 PLD.

  • @mkrcivoj
    @mkrcivoj10 күн бұрын

    Even if PLD produces 40-50 points a season, it's not the worst trade. (Forsberg for Erat and Latta is the worst trade ever.) The Kings didn't want to take a chance on a second season, knowing that the NTC would kick in on July 1st. PLD might play better under a younger coach that can work with diamonds in the rough. The Caps needs bodies up front. And they can afford to eat up his salary. Kings got an upgrade in nets and save face by not retaining salary or giving up picks as a sweetener. The Caps don't mind overpaying, and PLD's "dignity" is salvaged by not asking for more. Plus the Caps have a wealth in goalie prospects ready for the NHL. No place for Kuemper.
