Credit to Blake for not doubling down on this terrible contract. It hurts to see what was given to acquire PL from the Jets. The first step was taken by Blake to correct this debacle, hopefully good trades and drafting are soon to come.

Here was Blakes choices. Move PLD by July 1st or hope for the next 7 years that PLD would play to his contract level. Considering this is PLD's third team where he didn't perform, where either PLD or the team wanted out, this isn't a bad deal. 3 million more in cap space. 3 years left in Kuemper's salary instead of 7 years. Can't erase the original mistake so this is the best option.

I also feel that Blake and Luc still need to go, but I give Blake props for sort of admitting his mistake on the trade and the contract. Pretty softball session. The toughest Q was by Helene near the end when she asked Blake if PLD had anything to do with the failure. Blake said it was on us. That is not a sale with me. Fiala had n-p with the system or rotating lines. PLD seems like a problem child wherever he goes. I understand why Blake doesn't want to say, "W as management poorly assessed his character and his compete level. That is on us." Joe Ready should not be a hockey journalist. He didn't even understand a buyout! What a poorly prepared guy.

As someone who gave massive criticism and called for this man to get fired, I give Blake a lot of credit for this trade. Honestly, considering where the Kings were at beforehand, this is actually a good trade. No salary retention for Dubois’s awful contract, and we got a solid experienced goaltender, while gaining $3million in cap space. Yes, we gave away Vilardi and a second last offseason, but we can’t change that. This was a massive step in the right direction. I have to tip my cap to Blake. It is said that ignorance is temporary, but stupidity is forever. After the Dubois debacle I would be extremely worried about what the Kings organization is left with here, because given all that was already common knowledge about Pierre Luc Dubois as a professional hockey player, prior to his arrival in Los Angeles, I don't see how, by any stretch of the imagination, the acquisition can seriously be put down to ignorance. To me, both in terms of optimism and Rob Blake's future this is still not a good look at all.

Growing up, Blake was my first most favorite Kings player. Obviously everyone worships Gretzky but I always saw him as an outsider coming in while Black was home grown. That being said, he should be fired along with Robitaille, another favorite player for conspiring with PLD's agent, Pat Brisson. I believe when Blake and Robitaille were players a decade ago, they also had relationships with Brisson. Remember, the Kings dumped a LOT of players including Kings first Conn Smythe winner Jonathan Quick and unloaded many talented younger players both to pay for PLD or as cap dumps before getting PLD's salary in there. And instead of getting a #1 goalie, they got PLD.

His only job is to feed Ovi while him and Wilson just hang around the net. Dubois contract will be up by the time their rebuild is over. Kuemper on the other hand will tie the Kings up with that 5mil contract until Kopi is retired and Doughtys contract is up. The Kings now need to fill a lot more holes than they needed when the season was over. All this cap space frees up is to resign Byfield and Roy and some bottom 6 talent. PL was top 10 on the Kings in goals and points, I think assists as well. He was the third line center who was given maybe 20-30 seconds of PP time all while playing with scrubs the majority of the season. He had one less goal then Danault who played with Moore, Fiala and Arvy the majority of the season. While I won’t say it looked like he wasn’t giving effort every game, the Kings coaching staff didn’t do anything to help him succeed.

Trade for a guy and sign him for 8.5. Then you play him on the third line and the 2nd PP unit, and surprise surprise, he doesn't have as good of year. So after all that, he trades a mid-20s guy for a mid-30s backup, and everyone is saying what a sweet trade. Darcy lost the starter position and was going to be the most expensive backup in the league. Yeah, what a sweet move by Blake. He should lose his job for this mistake. If he wasn't so tight with the team, that's exactly what would've happened.

Agree that Blake should lose his job, but a good player should be able to make a difference. Not just put up points. If PLD actually showed some effort during his play, I would agree with your assessment. However, his lackadaisical play and zero effort on any line he played on was most telling

@WhoDubstepDave Yeah, I didn't watch too many Kings games, and maybe he didn't show effort at times, but I still think they set him up to fail. They brought in a 1b/top 6 center in Dubois when the Kings already had Kopitar and Byfield. It's nice to have 3 good centers, but come on, you can't pay 8.5 for a 3rd line center when you have a hall of famer as your top line guy and then a 2nd overall pick as your other center. When they made the deal, I thought Dubois was going to play wing with Kopitar because he played some wing in junior, but they saddled Dubois with questionable wingers and everyone took a dump on Dubois when he only put up 40 points. All I'm going to add is just wait until next year. Now Dubois is going to a team with no #1 center and a bunch of youngsters who play center in Washington. He's going to be given all the time and offensive zone starts he wants and 3x the PP time he got in LA. How much do you wanna bet he takes off when he's the guy in Washington. I bet he's going to set a new personal best in points.

The number of trades made NHL wide of this magnitude which are made by the team GM is exactly 0. The owners decided to bring in pld, the owners decided to send him out. Attempting to judge whether a gm is good or not good based on the decisions of an owner is stupid.

For all you Dubois haters, did you know Dubois only was 8 points behind our #2 line center, which was our highest scoring line. Of couse Dubois didn't get to play center on one line, nor did he even play his position all the time. This whole thing stinks...8 points separates failure and success. F.U. P.S. Quick was coached by a real goalie coach and had a fantastic year!

@chriswertz1438 Bub, PL got a $68 million dollar contract. Daneult got about half of that. When you are making 8.5 a year as a forward, you produce much more than 40 points. Daneult is not expected to score that much. Everyone knew that. He is a defense first forward who is expected to shut down the other teams top center, and he is good at his job. PL was terrible on defense, and there are advanced stats out there to prove it, too. All he did was coast all year long and collect his pay for nothing, gramdpa dementia!

@@Vdoom777 the amount of money Dubois was making isn't his fault, its Blake's. As far as his defense goes I watched alot of games and I'd say his defense was good, he used his position and his stick to thwart the opponent. Remember the kings, who don't know what their doing, put Dubois on different lines and different positions, and he was only 8 points behind Danault!! Now we have another Talbot making over 5 million a year, and that's supposed to bring us a cup, grow a brain, blake needs to go!

@chriswertz1438 he was not good on defense. You are delusional. He left his man open many times, and there were game winning goals because of it. He was a minus player far beyond any other even when the kings were winning and everyone was +10 or something like that. His own rookie linemate , Laferriere, somehow had a muxh better +/- than PLD. McClellan would even sit him in the most key situations. Does McLellan want to lose on purpose? The only time he did fairly well was with Kempe because Kempe was a shooter who could create space for himself around defenders, and all PL had to do was carry it in the zone and just give him a drop pass and he earned a couple of assists that way. At this point, I'm going to have to assume you are some close family member of PLD or PL himself. Have fun in Washington, PL. Have fun getting booed there for the next 7 years hahaha
