The US absolutely does NOT benefit from destroying those pipelines. It ultimately would put far too much pressure on the US to support the world with gas, even if profitable. It would also sever ties with allies. It's just not worth the headache for the US. They absolutely didn't want this. Anyone who thinks that is severely undereducated in geopolitics and needs to lay off the conspiracy channels. It's so obvious that Russia did it to themselves on Putin's orders.

And now all these people are blaming the U.S or Russia, because their the easiest scape goat to what everyone really knows was an attack by space Nazis. I rest my case

One of the P-8 Poseidons missions is to conduct anti-submarine warfare. Also, Ukraine (it appears) just managed to blow up the Kerch Strait bridge with a huge truck full of explosives - deep in enemy territory. So, they are demonstrably capable of pulling off difficult operations, although if they could have done this particular one is of course still debatable. However, they would have had the same reasons as the US not to; the pipelines were already largely a non-issue going forward, but in addition (and I wish NWYT would also have mentioned this), should their hand in such a operation be discovered, the EU (and Europeans in general) would be absolutely _pissed_ at their treachery, souring relations significantly and, in the case of Ukraine, likely losing them a lot, if not all, of the vital support European nations are providing them.

Halting gas supply could potentially cause Europe to panic and withdraw support, leaving the US to support Ukraine more or less alone. Doing so an ambiguous way and having everyone point fingers is even better as you could try to divide them (which is what Russia has been trying to do even before Feb 24th). Sure, the US could have done it to simply profit but Europe was moving away from Russian gas anyways and that's too big a risk this late in the game considering how everything is playing out. The actual locations of where they decided to hit the pipelines also struck me as interesting, being all rather close to the Danish island of Bornholm, the southern tip of Sweden, and even Poland, where surveillance might be tighter, instead of at a more remote location, where the water might even also be shallower (meaning it'd be more easily accessible). This might suggest the choice of the particular location could have been intended to send a message to Denmark and Sweden (and perhaps Poland) in particular.

How do you gather there were 4 explosions? There were 4 leaks but with a pressure vessel like that running at like a hundred atmospheres, damaging the integrity of it in one spot might just rupture another spot as well through deformation. The 4 leak egress sites still correspond to only 3 pipes, one of the pipes sprung two leaks. Only two seismic events corresponding to explosions were registered by seismologists. One at 2am if I remember right talking out one pipe of NS2. And one at 7pm taking out two pipes of NS1. There is some debate between geologists and seismologists whether the second seismic event was really one explosion and a reflection or two explosions triggered within 4 seconds of each other. The first seismic event doesn't show such pattern and it was definitely one explosion, but since it was 50km away and much further from the shore, no conclusions can be drawn from mere comparison.

Penalties for contract noncompliance were not specifically mentioned but seemed clearly implied.

Russia's remaining gas pipelines going into Europe pass through Belarus and Ukraine. The flow through Ukraine is naturally endangered by the war; one of the pipelines was shut down in May due to damage combat damage. Interestingly, the same week Nord Stream blew up, Gazprom threatened to cut off gas to Ukraine over a contract dispute. When the Nord Stream sabotage happened my first thought was that this was intended to induce Europe to either end support for Ukraine to protect their gas supplies, or to put pressure on Ukraine to sue for peace. This video suggests a few other alternatives I hadn't thought of. Thank you!

When it turns really cold in Europe this winter and the impact of no natural gas starts to hit home, and people begin freezing to death or huddling in shelters, the pressure on their government to resume buying Russian natural gas will be very high. With the pipelines destroyed that's no longer an option. By removing this option, Washington ensures that the lack of natural gas does not threaten NATO cohesion and helping Ukraine in its war. Thus all the pro war nato countries have a vested interest in seeing this pipeline destroyed.

Germany, Sweden and Denmark tried to do a joint Investigation, but Sweden and Denmark retracted because they where worried about secrecy. Meanwhile the US is doing it's own Investigation. Why the german police that arives at the area with a boat and divers has no deep sea diving equipment for 70m is a mystery.

You forgot one thing: with the Nordstreams closed, the main way gas could get from Russia to Western Europe is through Ukraine. Since Russo-Ukranian relations isn't going to be restored for the foreseeable future, that incentivizes them (Europe) to let Russia have part of Ukraine. So that's why Putin would want them closed, it's a better way to hold Europe hostage.

Though that's a hare brained scheme if I ever saw one! Like hell will Ukraine bend. It has Poland and USA backing it so if Germany wants to betray them, well they'll live but it will sour diplomatic relationships quite a bit.

No need for sabotage..... Russia shut down Nord Stream One on the 2nd September 2022, stating that the Portovaya compressor station could not operate safely. Normally there are 6 large turbines, 2 small turbines and 4 spare turbines on site. Normally they need 2 of the 6 large turbines to fully pressurize the pipe, but one was in Germany after being serviced and, presumably, the only other one working had to be shut down due to safety. "Western" sanctions effectively prevented this repair/replacement, however a Kremlin spokesman also claimed that incomplete documentation prevented delivery..... Nord Stream Two wasn't certified by Germany, so it never delivered gas. If a failure of the Slavyanskaya gas compressor station occurred........same result as NS1. The Slavyanskaya gas compressor station was supposed to have 11 Ladoga turbines, 6 were apparently delivered/online in 2020. Given the graft and corruption in the military for things like maintenance and routine tasks, it's not hard to think Gazprom may well suffer from the same. Remember the Kiev nuclear meltdown? Poor design and poor training of personnel were blamed, AT A NUCLEAR POWER PLANT!!! COVID would have also adversely affected routine maintenance schedules and often shortcuts are used when people a forced to do 'more with less' in terms of personnel. Additionally, "Nord Stream 1 has a nameplate capacity of 55 billion cubic metres (bcm) per year. However, the pipeline pumped more than 59 bcm in 2020 and 2021..." Exceeding the stated capacity may have compromised the pipeline and the compressors. Without pressure in the pipelines, the Nord Stream 1 & 2 would collapse under the immense pressures, this may well have sounded like small explosions. Hydro-static shock would have traveled inside the pipelines and caused other ruptures.

Many of their submarines have docking ports and other apparatus to support docking and tendering of deep sea submersibles for monitoring and disruption of undersea communications, power and infrastructure cables and pipelines. They have more capability in this area than every other country combined.
