That one injury against sweden ruined him. He was a monster but one single mistep ruined his entire playing style. He says now that he could feel his leg give out when he tried to be the sprinter he was before and he had no choice but to slow down. It shattered his career and cut it short.

Think about boxers, and hey are allowed to develop and pace their managers pace their careers. Own was understandably seen a phenom, but you wonder how things might have been if he was allowed ample rest after his first knee injury. Certainly he wanted to play in the world cup, but if he had drops handlers and good physio and doctored around him, they would have kept him off the squad. Finally, if the last 6 or 6 years Owen was only playing at 70% …. Imagine what he would have been like if he was healthy.

Get the facts right... Owen was scared to run into channels because of a hamstring injury he suffered aged 19 against Leeds. 2006 knee injury was way after that. Owen himself says he adapted his game because he didn't want to injure hamstring again.
