Becky Lynch: I have two belts Último Dragón: bitch please
3:14 - Fun fact about the J-Crown: among the titles it represented was the *WWF Light-Heavyweight Championship,* which had been introduced by the WWF in 1981 for use by various promotions in Mexico and Japan. In fact that's why the J-Crown was vacated: the WWF recalled the title to finally use in their own promotion in 1997. What this means is that when he was holder of the J-Crown Ultimo Dragon represented & even _defended_ a WWF-branded championship among its other titles on _WCW television in the middle of the Monday Night Wars,_ and *neither company noticed.*

Yep! Me too
WCW at one time had by far the superior roster with big names like Hogan, Piper, Flair, Sting; technical geniuses like Benoit and Malenko; monsters like Giant and Meng; rising stars like Jericho, Booker, Goldberg and Guerrero; the nWo's and Flock; AND amazing high flyers like Rey, Chavo, Kidman, Ultimo Dragon and Psychosis. That's one hell of a roster.
Would love to see a what happened to every wrestler in the full version of the what happened to that wrestler song

I love cruiserweight in WCW. They all showed up legend like Jericho, Mysterio and Guerrero (RIP)
Man watching Rey vs Billy Kidman was some of the sickest matches I've seen and of early Chris Jericho was underrated WCW really didn't know how much talent they actually had
Oh man. WCW. This whole list is my childhood! Ulitimo Dragon was always my fave. Rey and Kidman were up there too, of course, but Dragon was always my guy.

I will never get sick of that song.
See I’ll always credit ECW for bringing In Cruiserweight wrestlers, however there’s absolutely no question that WCW captured what the Cruiserweight Division should be
@sethallen6945

Ecw and wcw equally did great things with the lightweight divisions. WWE killed each of those peoples careers with maybe a handful of exceptions.

Seth Allen but unfortunately ECW didn’t have a Cruiserweight division they just had the matches. If they did and a title I guarantee that would have been an instant success

anonamatron true, but that didn’t stop it from having some serious 5 star matches. kind of how I remember some of the ECW stuff Rey and Eddie Guerrero put on (before he got bulked up and moved up to the heavyweight division)
Just pointing out that the WWE considers the WCW Light Heavyweight Championship and the WCW Cruiserweight Championship as the same title. The Light Heavyweight title was around 5 years before the Cruiserweight title.

I seriously can't believe there wasn't even a mention of it. The Pillman/Liger matches are legendary. So legendary WCW opened the first Nitro with them as a homage to their classics.

@@Hawkster52 I am assuming they are going my original title history and not WWE revison of its history in that case the wcw light heavyweight will be a different title all togeather
The reason Otani won the Crusierweight championship is because WCW had organized an elaborate tournament for the belt but completely lost the plot on organizing it. So they threw it to NJPW to try and save it who opted (or demanded) that the first champion be one of their own. And 96 Liger wasn't going to try and save another WCW junior title himself so Otani got the bill.

I never really liked it. It looked good once it hit, but there was just way too much setup beforehand. I always thought of it as unrealistic and somewhat of an overkill (in kayfabe) to do on an opponent who needs to be out standing in order to not break out of that long sequence of preparation.
@jetblack99

It looks like a million bucks, but it's just too damn dangerous to use as a regular finisher. You're rolling the dice with somebody's career and/or life every time. WWE was right to ban it.

Back when the cruiserweight championship was fun to watch
It was nice to have a What Happened Series video where most of the performers are still alive and well. Well done as always Pacitti!
I thought about Mike Sanders for too long i’m bleeding everywhere.
Loved the wcw cruiser weight division. It was dean malanco(sorry if I spelt it wrong) and his match with the subzero gimmick guy, that got me really into the technical wrestling.
Ultimo Dragon is one of my favorites. Same with Pyschosis
Great video appreciate you making it
This is back when you would watch the first hour of Nitro and then switch over to Raw. First hour was cruiser weights and it was great. Second hour was Hugh Morris vs Johnny Grunge. Got to wonder what they were thinking.
Ultimo Dragon was misused in wwe.
imo Good vid. Some of my all-time favorites were WCW Cruiserweight champions...Malenko, Mysterio, Jericho, Eddie Guerrero, Madusa, Daffney, and Storm. imo
Chris Jericho on 29th February 2020: "That's a nice, up-to-date list of my accomplishments you released today, Pacitti. It'd be a shame if something happened to it."
I didn't know that wright is owner of new
Ultimo Dragon all time favorite. Loved him as a heel and face.
Rey Mysterio has had a storied career, and is rightly praised for his matches even today. But in my opinion he was never the same after his first big WCW knee injury. When he first arrived he was quickly dubbed "The Human Highlight Reel" because he displayed a level of athleticism and acrobatic skill that just took your breath away every time he got in the ring. It was magic. After the injury and rehab he came back with the same fire, but he definitely had lost a step. It's a tribute to him that he's still putting on great matches a quarter century after such a devastating injury.
Ultimo Dragon & dan severn brought out ALL of their belts & it was pretty cool
Daffney was awesome I loved to hear her scream
That Kidman vs Guerrera match is such a good match. If you have not seen it, go watch it
OMG that intro song is the best thing I've seen lol. Can I get just a clip of that to share?

Would have loved to see the original La Parka hold a title at least once in WCW. He was one of the few fan favorites that never held a title.
Not to mention that Ray was also World Heavyweight Camp also
Am I tripping? Wasn’t (Flying) Brian Pillman also a CW champ. I remember him losing a belt to a masked wrestler that looked like a power ranger (can’t remember exactly who though).
A handicap Power Bomb match with Kevin Nash. 😂 I lost it and thought about it well beyond 5 seconds.
I have to be honest WWF needed the same thing to really put the nail in the coffin for WCW.The WWF Light Heavyweight Title should’ve been a title that demonstrated the Wrestling ability of Cruiserweights. The Light Heavyweight Title was a title that had some promising times especially with veterans like Yoshihiro Tajiri,Dean Malenko,Jeff Hardy,Essa Rios,Jerry Lynn.
Skipper working at Applebee’s blew my mind..

Crowbar is my buddy’s chiropractor
So I'd like to levy a correction since I'm going to full sail. Theres a faculty member in th4 writing department named Michael Ferrara. Ed Ferrara is not employed by them.
I take some umbrage with the opening assertion that focusing on workrate was something new to WCW. WCW had even already HAD a crusierweight division back in 91/92 with a championship. Kind of borderline ignorant to not even mention that. Yes, Hogan's era had brought in (unfortunate) changes but WCW was still the same promotion that made sure that every main eventer was a capable worker from Flair, to Sting, to Vader, to Steamboat, to Windham. Even guys like Luger and Simmons were carryable. Until Hogan came in in 94 WCW/NWA was *always* the workrate alternative to WWE. Focusing on the Crusierweights was going back to their roots.
Every ECW tv champ ranked?
Candido was a beast
damn the title was around for 5 years and had 25 champions that is 5 champions a year to hit that number wow
