What Happened To ‘80s R&B Group Guy?
Ойын-сауық
Teddy Riley, Aaron Hall, and Timmy Gatling came together in the late ‘80s to form Guy, an R&B singing trio that displayed traditional soul vocals over hip hop beats creating a never-heard-before sound dubbed new jack swing. They went on to achieve numerous hits as well as inspire a crop of other groups and solo artists to embrace the new music genre. Behind-the scenes, though, things had already started to fall apart from the very beginning and only got worse as time went on until it all came to an abrupt end.

I'm really surprised Teddy hasn't been inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. He's produced so many great songs, and he's done a lot of producing for Korean pop artists as well.

Nothing beat that New Jack Swing sound. It was just too funky! It boomed in the cars and backyard cookouts. Oh yeah...house parties and skating rinks 🙌. i cant believe he produced The Show. he was a teenager. crazy 🔥😍hes underrated AF. && Aaron Hall has one of the best voices Ive heard. its interesting hearing how I Miss You was about his late son since the video is the opposite. the girl dies and the baby lives. used to make me cry when I was a kid.
Let's not forget Piece Of My Love is a banger too till this day. Speaking of Aaron Hall and his hit Don't Be Afraid, um yeah, those lyrics are very questionable 🤔 🤣
@KCfromDCtheLeo

Glad someone else questioned those lyrics. Talking BDSM before folks really knew what that stood for! And the dude came out of the church (LOL).
We used to call Aaron Hall “Boathouse Hall” because he locked his baby momma up in the boathouse and someone had to save her. I was in the CFL at the time and both entertainers and athletes share the same representation, publishing and legal firm and rumors spread more frequently than COVID. They say that Aaron hates the nickname, but hell he earned it lol 😂. Great video 👍🏾
Gene Griffin the manager owned the L.L.C and trademark to the group's name he had Aaron, Teddy and Damion sign over almost all over there publishing and royalties without a lawyer present which would have given each member about 30 million dollars apiece when the group members found out what he did they refused to sing that's why GUY broke up.

I named my oldest son after Teddy Riley using his last name as my son’s name Riley. Been a fan of Guy forever (in a healthy way)
Guy's sophomore album The Future is also a classic as well
My favorite is Piece of my love and Teddy’s Jam
Guy has a lot of classic cuts; Ballads and club bangers
Love your videos, it’s like you fill in the gaps for Unsung. There are so many 90s acts on my list that I want an update on. Btw Aaron sleeping with a 16 year old doesn’t sit right with me omg 🥴 but thanks for the work you do and keep the videos coming.

They really do
Whewwww when I saw this recommended for me I clicked so FAST!!! Ever since I started listening to Guy myself a couple of years ago I've been completely in love since! "My Fantasy", "Don't Clap, Just Dance" and "New Jack City" are my three favorite songs by them! Those jams are just so funky! I remember hearing their music played when I was extremely young in the mid 90s and it never dawned on me until very recently that they're not really known outside of the black community as most of their hits were only R&B hits. I don't understand why after 30 years they haven't had any honors at award shows and they're NEVER mentioned among all of this '90s nostalgia that's been going on the past few years, yet there have been several songs lately that have sampled their classic hits. Guy is such a beautiful and important part of R&B history. I hope they get their acknowledgment and flowers soon while they're still here. They have bangers for days to be honest. P.S.: Aaron Hall seems to be a huge mess though in his personal life and I believe needs mental help.
It’s just a fantasy is my favorite song by Guy
Piece of my love is one best song ever produced!!!!
Guy's debut was the first album that I ever purchased along with Heavy D. and the Boyz "Big Tyme".
