What gorillas can teach us about being human | Tara Stoinski | TEDxAtlanta

Humans and gorillas share biological kinship. But what can we learn from their social systems? Primatologist and conservationist Tara Stoinski reflects upon mountain gorillas, their response to orphans and the lessons we can learn from them about loss and resilience. Renowned primatologist Tara Stoinski has studied gorillas for over 20 years and her research has been instrumental in developing conservation strategies for these majestic creatures, including the creation of new protected areas and the establishment of community-based conservation programs.
In recognition of her extraordinary contributions to the field of conservation, Tara has received numerous awards and honors, including the prestigious Indianapolis Prize, widely considered to be the Nobel Prize of conservation. Her work has also been featured in a number of documentaries, including the acclaimed film “Virunga,” which chronicles the efforts to protect gorillas in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The National Geographic Magazine, CNN and NPR are just some of the press outlets that have covered Tara’s work.
She is the president and CEO of the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

Great insight,, the care, the support within humans and our ape relatives. Thank you and really hope the gorillas manage to survive humans' greed which leads to poaching and maybe, not just the extinction of our ape relatives, but of the vast populace of humans!!

I give more credibility to ants, bees, earthworms, etc. without which our species dies…probably in a few short years. Apes are vulnerable to the same influences of insects as we are. BUGS rule! Apes are awesome, but offer little to the planet…just like humans.

Only a thousand gorillas remain in jungle's ? OMG it's we the humans,, who are constantly cutting jungle's tree off. Resultantly not only gorillas but all creatures living in jungle's are under threat of same subsequences, i.e vanishing from where they live. So bad what's being done by we the humans as cutting trees would lead to minimise the source of oxygen which is most desired to live for human. Alas most of humans do not understand what just described by me, above.👎👎👎
