Yes...and No. I think the perfect set up for the first film should be an adaptation of Giant Size X-Men #1, where Wolverine, Storm, Nightcrawler, Colossus and others join the team under Cyclops clearly established leadership. Cyclops needs to be shown as an incredible leader like Captain America and Wolverine needs to be written akin to the Hulk: A tank/game changer, but not the focus. Storm should be team leader by the third film and Wolverine needs to be continuously written as the support character he was in the classic comics where he grew in popularity. Save all the “Wolverinemania” for his inevitable solo films which will most likely come out before any X-Men team films. Wolverine was never the focus until the very modern era of the last 10-15 years where they crammed him into everything including the Avengers. If anything, X-Men was mainly about the saga of Cyclops and Jean Grey. The majority of main characters, storylines and concepts for almost 30 years straight revolved around them, their children or their alternate futures and realities (Cable, Stryfe, Rachel Summers/Phoenix II, Days of Future Past, Past of Future Days, X-Cutioners Song, Inferno, Madelyn Pryor, The Twelve, Apocalypse, The Phoenix/Dark Phoenix Sagas, Mister Sinister, Nate Grey/X-Man, X-Factor Vol 1).

​@@trealsteve Mister Sinister. We need Mister Sinister to be the main villain with the MCU XMen, and then that automatically sets up the story needing to have *a* Cyclops focus. We could learn about the villain and Cyclops concurrently, because Mr. Sinister is interested in Cyclops. Well, his genes specifically, but all the same. Let's see why. In fact, let's have Minister Sinister not be the main right away. Could be a movie 2 situation. But the audience could take a deeper interest in Cyclops through the wonder of why this Sinister guy is so interested in him. Like we see he's interested, and then we see Cyclops is interesting, and there we go. I don't know, that's just what popped in there. Needs work obvi.

Cyclops is by all metrics the second most popular x-man. There are surveys done every 4 years where people vote their top favourite characters with thousands of fans voting. Cyclops is the #9 most popular character in marvel with the only x-man more popular being wolverine at #3. He’s more than popular enough to be a centrepiece character so saying he isn’t is just bullshit.

Cyclops and Wolverine should be the Cap and Iron Man of the X universe.

Cyclops should of been a main character not a side character to everyone. He is the direct protege of Professor X and eventual leader of the X-Men!

Cyclops is supposed to embody Xavier's dream of co-existence between humans and mutants. He's Xavier's first "X-Man". Summer's is a "schtickler for the rules" kinda guy. He's always serious and comes off as a hard ass because if he lets his gaurd down for only a second, he could potentially kill someone just by looking at them. Add the fact that if he fails in trying to achieve peace, his entire race could be eradicated. That's a lot responsibility for ANYONE to have on thier shoulders. Also Scott has to reign in the most diverse and conflicting personalities from all over the world (like Wolverine, who constantly tests his leadership) and somehow get them to stop being selfish assholes and work as a team. That's pretty badass if you ask me.

YES. THANK you, this was exactly on my mind. There were so many opportunities presented to make his character shine. But all of them, wasted and ignored. By all means he is not a rebellious edgy teen (First Class Universe) nor Wolverine's footnote and Jean's Cuckold Husband (XMCU). He is a powerful figure in the team and one of its cornerstones.

The original trilogy reduced him to nothing but the guy blocking Wolverine from getting it on with Jean Grey.

Fox NEVER gave us Chris Claremont's characters. Not Cyclops. Not Colossus. Not anybody.

Facts. 1. The Wolverine we got was really a pretty boy trying to act tough with mediocre fighting skills. 2. Magneto was unnecessarily cruel like his Silver Age version and never got the nuances that Claremont added. 3. Xavier got knocked out, kidnapped, tortured, manipulated, overpowered and killed too much. 4. Mystique was written entirely wrong from The Last Stand onward. 5. Storm was underpowered, criminally underwritten and miscast. 6. Jean Grey...see above 7. Cyclops was written to be Wolverine’s cuckold. Wrong on so many levels. 8. They made the school open to hundreds of children. We’ve been suffering that concept in the comics ever since they allowed that in Grant Morrison’s run, no doubt inspired by the films. Unnecessary collateral damage. 9. They literally made the Unstoppable Juggernaut a joke. 10. They wasted both the Phoenix and Dark Phoenix Sagas twice. The only things they “mostly” got right in the entire franchise were: 1. The Blackbird in the first four films including the incredibly mediocre “First Class” (NOT) film and the Deadpool films. 2. Magneto’s helmet in (NOT) First Class. 3. Cerebro (mostly). 4. Wolverine’s claws (except Origins). 5. Colossus’ powers. 6. Rogue’s powers. 7. Stan Lee’s cameos. 8. Chris Claremont’s cameo. 9. Wolverine is Canadian. 10. The fact that the X-Men are Mutants. They messed everything else up.

I originally got to know the xmen from the Marvel vs Capcom fighting games, and I always played as Cyclops. Later I read the comics and watched the animated show. Cyclops always has been and always will be my favorite xman. Glad to hear him getting some love here.

I agree with everything barring one thing. Cyclops is pretty popular and important. Yes, Wolverine is the most popular character around but I think if you asked any X-Men fan about the top 5 X-Men, I think Cyclops would be in the list. He's arguably the most important character in X-Men stories in the last 20 years or so. So many of the major X-Men plotlines have him front and center, be it X-Men vs The Avengers, Schism, Cyclops' revolution storyline etc...

Kris Jackson I agree but they never had the rights to Carol Danvers so they could not make Rogue fly. But they could have still made her as great as she was in Wolverine and the X-men. Anna Paquin was not even that good as the character.

Cyclops, especially at the point he's been portrayed in the movies (pre-Phoenix), is the sort of character Hollywood hates. He's focused, loyal, and efficient. He's Xavier's loyal son. Writers interpret that as "boring" and don't delve into his history and need to belong

Carl Rood cyclops is a boyscout. I think there are only two characters where being a boyscout works for the character and that is Captain America and Superman cause they are basically American Icons in their universes. I‘m not super familiar with Cyclops in the comics but just his powers are more boring than Superman and Captain America. He can’t carry a movie or comic on his own while supes and cap can cause they got interesting and iconic stories in the comics.

If they actually did both Phoenix Sagas right, Cyclops would be the star of those movies and the ones involving Cable, Mister Sinister, Stryfe and Apocalypse. Also, there’s nothing boring about a guy who can’t look at you without wearing special glasses lest he kills you or gravely injures you at the very least. At this point in history Cyclops is an American icon. Anyone who hasn’t lived under a rock over 30 has seen X-Men TAS and X-Men Evolution at least once. Lol

Storm has been so incredibly mishandled too. She’s been a leader of the X-Men in the comics multiple times, but in the movies she’s always been just a side character with not that much to do. Not to mention, she’s super powerful but the movies, again, didn’t really do a whole lot to showcase that.

Wasting Cyclops is the greatest sin of the Fox X Men films and I have never understood how they couldn’t just easily fix this. Their hype and obsession with Wolverine really did a huge disservice to Cyclops as a character. It’s sad that great actors keep getting cast yet is given nothing to really do. Even if Cyclops is not the most beloved character, he is and has always been an important part of X Men stories. To have so undermined the character is just such a shame. I would hope that when Marvel Studios decides to bring in X Men again, they will finally do right by Cyclops

Preach. Both are certified badasses to be able to get various teams consisting of Wolverine, Rogue, Psylocke, Gambit, Dazzler, Archangel, Iceman, Bishop, Marrow, Thunderbird, Sunfire and Rachel Summers/Phoenix II to work together. Storm even did it without powers for a bit.

That 90s era Cyclops was awesome in the video games and cartoon, Cyclops was always cool to me but seeing him pick apart Sinister gave me a whole new everlasting respect for him. His leadership qualities are paramount but he also shines when he loses his composure

Cyclops is one of the top favorite X-men.....among the top 5

How do you figure Cyclops is not a popular enough character? He has more than enough popularity to be a lead character. He was pretty much the lead character in X-men TAS and by many estimates, he is the second most popular after Wolverine (Storm might tie him for that place). We never even knew who Starlord was or any of the guardians yet now they are super popular. I absolutely think he should be a lead character in the upcoming movies. I am actually shocked as an X-man fan that you didn't think so on your own.

You can tell that singer and every other director never was a fan of the source material b3cause they always made him what Jubilee or Angel should been on the team.

Cyclops is by far my favorite X-Man character. I understand why Wolverine was interesting for movie goers but they totally benched him and kept him not only from center stage but the stage entirely. He is more than just a cool mutant power. He has the leadership and strategy and great character arcs. He is not the anti hero but he is the moral compass that the team needs and that would even help Logan stand out and build off of...real shame they blew it.

For anybody that grew up in the 90s with the animated series, Wolverine was the fan favorite and Cyclops was the leader. Two most important X-Men.

There's an opportunity to make movies that feel really fresh by fleshing out characters like Cyclops & Gambit.

Cyclops need his own stand alone film.

I totally agree with your opinion on the misuse of Cyclops. Cyclops in the comics was the leader, Xavier is the brains/motivator and wolverine is the muscle and heart of the X-Men

Yep! He is Xavier's 1st student and his general. Yeah, he's definitely got his hang ups with Jean.... Wait...! Sounds kinda familiar to MCU's Cap.... 😉

@@revealingtruth3329 Actually, his first student was Tessa/Sage. She saved him after his battle with the alien dude that crushed his legs. She went undercover for him in the Hellfire Club as Sebastian Shaw’s right hand for years.

They should make him the center piece. Think about it, iron Man use to be a b list even c list hero but look what they made him. They could make Slim the man if they wanted; just boils down to writing

Cyclops should to X-men what Captain America is to the Avengers. Cyclops deserves better and I believe the MCU will do him justice

I long to see in the big screen that scene where Wolverine says "every now and then summers, you remind me why you're in charge" and then it pans out to half a forest that was blown up by Cyclops

To be totally honest they never really got Wolverine 100% right.

And not only did they kill off cyclops, but he was killed off in the first act.

Almost all of the X-men characters were poorly utilised except for Xavier, Magneto and Wolverine. One of the reasons Days of Future Past was so good is that they gave more characters at least a moment in the spotlight, including Bishop, Sunspot, etc, etc.

Bishop was wasted in a time travel film where a major part of his backstory is that he’s a time traveler. 😐 FOX-Men sucks.

Every time they weaken omega level mutant Storm. So.. They also got Storm wrong, too. A weather event can start a chain reaction that can destroy entire towns, islands, cities, states, countries, continents even the earth.

I think if you get Scott’s character perfect on screen, every other character will fall into place perfectly.

Agree. My favorite character.

At this point, if we want Cyclops, Storm, Jean, Bobby, Kurt, Warren, Psylocke, Colossus, Gambitto, etc. to be fleshed out, it's best Disney/Marvel does the Xmen on streaming like DC's spectacularly well done Titans/Doom Patrol with the epicness of the 90s animated series sprinkled in. A team dynamic is best fleshed out in a series as their are alot of great characters/storylines/personal subplots. They do the Xmen in movies, it will be the Wolverine show all over again.

Agreed. I’d prefer a series that covers the smaller stories and character development and save the Sagas and big X-crossovers for the films.

Cyclops was dope in the first X-Men annnnnnd that’s about it...took him out for the majority of X2, took him out in the first 15 of X3, a cameo in origins, a bit part in Apocalypse and gave him no arc in Dark Phoenix

Yeah, fox isn't know for fleshing out characters not named jean, logan, Charles, Erik or Raven.

We live in a world were mystique has a more important role in the team than Cyclops..... Such bullishit.... Bryan singer said in the dvd commentary for x2 it was hard to put such a great actor like marsden in the role because Cyclops is a wooden character. ( or something to that effect.).... Justice for Cyclops...... Oh, jensen ackles for Cyclops!

Naw, man, I'd prefer someone tall and lanky like Miles Teller to play him. Scott is slim and awkward, but a powerful leader despite being completely socially inept. I feel like someone like Telelr could pull of the insecurity and leadership skills perfectly.

@@scrabdusanproductions2104 I think every reason you gave for Teller is good, however it’s the exact reason why I wouldn’t go with that angle for cyclops, granted I think teller could play the character just as I see him too. I’ve seen twenty years of awkward Scott summers being christened as leader, never to have it fulfilled. I’m ready for the No BS cyclops who is the leader, not the quiet kid in the back of the class who can’t hold his own against wolverine.

I just felt so bad for James Marsden because he had the perfect look for Scott Summers/Cyclops and he could have done a great job with the role but unfortunately, he ended up being completely wasted with nothing to show for it. At least the first film showed some potential with him being a good leader as what we all have expected from Cyclops but everything onward just screwed him over and did the character dirty. Anyways, with the new era of X-Men on film coming upon us real soon, Cyclops should take more center stage as the natural leader of the X-Men as what he should have been from the beginning and with Steve Rogers/Captain America being such a beloved character in the MCU, can we expect Cyclops to be X-Men's answer to Captain America? At least with the upside of being in the MCU, they don't have to be in just X-Men films and can guest star in other films as well to get even more of the development needed as well.

Cyclops and his brother Havoc have also been portrayed as being far less powerful than in the comics. Both are two of the most powerful mutants to ever have been in the X-MEN.

what i hate is Cyclops and Havok deaths are so call off camera i think Singer hated the Summers brothers

Put Cyclops at the forefront of the xmen like he is in the comics. He has great leadership and strategic skills. Also when the time comes please get his combat skills right mcu.

I always said that they did Scott dirty. Cyclops in the comics was a bad ass, smart, strong, alpha male and incredible leader of the team. The movie version wasn't a shadow of Cyclops.

Cyclops, Wolverine, and Storm are the 3 best.

All the X-men films should have been called Wolverine and Friends volume 1 and so on. I love Wolverine, but almost all of the other main characters are just as rich in story as him.

The X-Men cartoons from the 90’s are the best Version of all the characters.

Because they didn’t know what the hell they were doing. Very simple.

One of the biggest differences between the MCU and the Fox comic book movies is that the MCU always gave everyone ample screen time in the team movies. Iron Man was the most popular character, but in the Avengers movies you saw plenty of Captain America, Thor, Hulk, Widow, etc... This is also true with Guardians of the Galaxy. So if the X-Men started in the MCU, Cyclops wouldn't have been a side character based on that alone. If the MCU can make awesome solo movies for Captain America, Dr. Strange, and Ant Man, I really would love to see what they could do with a Cyclops solo movie.

There are no xmen movies that are average MCU quality if your comics knowledge predates the foxmen films

Cyclops could be their new Captain America if they do him right. But he's been treated as just a Wolverine love rival in the films.

Cyclops is by all metrics the second most popular x-man. There are surveys done every 4 years where people vote their top favourite characters with thousands of fans voting. Cyclops is the #9 most popular character in marvel with the only x-man more popular being wolverine at #3. He’s more than popular enough to be a centrepiece character so saying he isn’t is just bullshit.

I agree with you even though I haven’t read the comics I have seen a few episodes of the 90s X Men cartoon and he was the leader so why not make him be the leader in the movies.

Yeah fox couldn't even get the visor right. Put the button in his glove so that he can fight hand to hand and still use his optic blasts.

The visor in x 2 was cool. Not gonna lie. First film he should only have controls on the visor. Second movie and then on he would have both but uses the hand control more.

Cyclops is on the level of Captain America when it comes to leading a team. Even Logan respected him as a leader. The X-men movies treated him like shit. The worst part in X2 was when they stole his car and turned on his radio.

They never showed him the respect he deserves because he's the leader of the X-men and professor Xavier's right hand and when he died in X-men last stand I was done with the X-men flims..
