Indicators (will not kink line):
Fly fishing for trout, fly fishing for Cutthroat in the Pacific Northwest has been a passion of mine for the last 40 years. I have spent most of my life fly fishing the great Pacific Northwest to include fly fishing in Alaska, fly fishing in Washington, fly fishing in Oregon, fly fishing in Idaho and fly fishing in Montana. I generally will fly fish and practice catch and release when fly fishing for trout, but I have been known to catch and cook during camping trips to many of my favorite fishing spots. I love to fly fish lakes in the higher elevation, though I have a few lowland lakes that are fly fishing only that are also on my most favorite list. I have a ton experience fly fishing rivers for trout and always enjoy discovering new rivers to fly fishing in and around the greater Pacific Northwest. I am also an accomplished at casting a fly rod - whether it is fly fishing casting for distance, fly fishing casting for accuracy, the double haul, roll cast, tower cast and many more fly fishing casting techniques - I can show you the basics when it comes to casting a fly rod. I also will cover many topics that relate to getting started with fly fishing. From your basic fly fishing setups, flies and fly boxes - we cover all the fly fishing needs for beginners. Thanks for taking the time to tune into FlyFishDan and I hope you consider subscribing to my fly fishing channel. Cheers and FISH-ON!!!

@@stephenburdess2914 Generally speaking you will have better "luck" so to speak, if you use "in-season" flies. However, it also depends on the water temperature, time of day and color/ type of water you are fishing in.

@@FlyFishDan Plan to go to Soldatna, AK in mid May-Mid July. It's the hub of the best fishing in the world and the Kenai River flows right through it. Other world famous rivers like the Russian River and Kasilof are less than an hour away. We have a technique called "flipping" which targets Sockeye. I've seen nothing but fins across the river as they head up stream along the banks 15 feet from shore. We have a run of 110K in a day!! Yes, we are salmon snobs here for good reason. Catching the limit of 6 when they change it can be done in less than an hour and half on peak days. I've seen proxy fisherman for older people leave with 24 in 6 hours. We live for fishing here and we love sharing the experience and our Alaskan techniques they don't use in the "outside" with the outsiders. Best part? You can fish until dawn if you want, and die hard fisherman DO. Catch your limit, clean, fillet, put in gallon zip lock bags, stuff in your backpack and head downstream a 1/2 mile and do it all over again. Cleaned and fillet fish don't count as a fish in possession up here. Just 3 days of hard core fishing this way and you will come home with enough fish to pay for half your trip and the memories will have you coming back every year for more. The strange thing is catching these things don't excite locals as 7 lb salmon are so common. You only see excitement out of most locals if they hook into a big King. Two years ago I was with a buddy that hooked into a beast.....we had to chase it on the Zodiak from the island beach. Better set your drag right or you will burn your hand. Catch a few on a fly rod and you too will look at trout fishing as boring, but fun. And yeah, catching a King on a fly rod is mad fun!! We don't use spinning rods up here for the most part. Come on up!
