What Ever Happened To That $400 GMC Jimmy?

In today's video, we revisit the $400 Jimmy I bought a while back! I haven't posted any video content on it since last winter and a lot of folks have been asking for an update. Well, there's good and bad news. The bad news is that, as expected, the Jimmy went downhill real quick. Its already lengthy list of problems grew to the point that I just decided to part it a few months or so ago. So first, I had to get it running. The good news is that it'll end up leading into a whole new video series! I talked about all of that and more in this video! If you have any questions, feel free to post them below and I'll try to get to them! Thanks for watching and have a great day!
Here's the link to the original Jimmy video (In Depth Tour and Cold Start): • In Depth Tour & Snowy ...

I saw this 2002 Chevy Suburban 1500 5.3, 170000 miles in unbelievable condition .. literally a couple of scratches, the leather front seats were nicely broken in (rear seating looked almost new) and the engine had a LOT left, no leaks, great suspension and it's a 4x4 … there isn't even any road rash on the wheels! … I got it for $3500.00!! .. It's like driving a yacht...very addictive. The previous owner babied it, had it regularly serviced, used Mobil One, etc … How can you beat a deal like that? … I subscribe to your channel because, weather it's a 1994 Jimmy that needs a resto or a 2002 'burban that doesn't need a whole lot, anyone can drive their dream within a budget and feel like you sorta hit the "car guy" lottery!! … Keep up the great work Kyle!

The one that has been sitting probably has water in the gas. It happens with ethanol gas. The consensation builds up inside the tank and bonds to the ethanol molecules. It happened to my grandmother's 99 Regal that sat for 2 years. When we got it running again it poured white smoke out the intake and exhaust.

It would be fun to make it a sort of Roadkill project car: cheaping out with MacGyver and jury-rigged quick fixes, cheap parts out of the junkyard and such. It's not like any efforts to turn into its former glory would ever reflect on its value, plus it might be great fun doing unorthodox repairs you normally wouldn't on a car you'd care for more.

Hey Kyle, awesome garage! Try looking into your roof system and venting. Specifically, if there is a way to put a ridge vent or vent on the wall near the ridge...that will help air circulation and drop your indoor temps slightly. The bigger investment might be insulating (spray foam) before doing any type of conditioning unit. Best of luck, looking forward to more of your build continent.

I love those older model square bodies SUVs....I had a 1993 Nissan Pathfinder that a former boss basically gave to me. He was so convinced that it was a good vehicle, he let me drive it for a WEEK without even paying for it. It had over 300K miles, he dropped by my house one day and just waved the keys at me...He told me to drive it, if I liked it, we could work out a deal. Since he was my boss, he knew what I was earning and what I could and could not afford LOL. I drove it for a week and told him "I really like it, however, you know I cannot afford it right now....I just got this job a couple months ago and I just moved here, so you know starting over in a new place is expensive". I handed him the keys back. Later that evening, he passed out paychecks. I typically would just put mine to the side while I finished work. He came by a few minutes after handing me my paycheck and asked if I saw my check yet. I told him that I hadn't even opened the envelope. He told me to open it. Inside the envelope was the keys to the Nissan Pathfinder...and my check...he told me if I was willing to take $100 paycheck that week, I could have the Pathfinder...sure it put me behind on my bills for a couple months, but i didn't complain....

I guess your grandad isn't driving much these days since you have his Grand Marquis. One thing you should do for the blazer is swap the spare tire carrier over to the new one. I love those and it looks strange without it

I agree, that spare tire carrier makes the whole look just seem "right". Papa stopped driving a while ago. He had a stroke last year and broke his hip the year before that. He's doing a lot better, but just doesn't have the strength he used to. Still his old chipper self though haha. I bought the GM from him because I didn't want anyone else to have it and not appreciate it in the same way I would.

Saabkyle04. I'm glad that he's doing better. Since you have his car, I'm sure in time you'll probably have the cleanest/best preserved Grand Marquis in America.

Saabkyle04 I'm sorry to hear that he had a stroke and a fall. My dad was in bad shape and went downhill fast. I lost him in winter. He was only 61 but very sick. He taught me a lot though and I watched this video because he had a 83 4x4 jimmy with the 2.8. They can climb anything in low.

a friend of mine had one of these as his daily driver - bought it practically brand new back in the early 90s. He had it up till about 5 years ago. I also had a very similar vehicle- the Bravada & it looked almost like a clone of my friends Jimmy. I got it off of Ebay for about $1100 & had it for a couple years before I got fed up with fixing it cause it was just falling apart on me. I ended up donating it to charity.

I’ve owned any kind of 1st gen s10 you can think of. I think the most surprising thing in that jimmy is the fact that it has working A.c. on the other blazer that has a bad head gasket you should do a 350 swap.

Damn I was hoping that thing would hold up. I bought a 1997 Mercury Mountaineer for $500 at around the same time you bought your first Jimmy but my beater SUV is still running great. Best $500 I've ever spent frankly. My daily hasn't started 3 times since I bought it but my Mountaineer has only done that to me once. But since the fuel pump replacement it's been 100% reliable even with over 200,000 miles. I drive it more than my daily at this point lol

You should get some spray insulation installed in the garage, and install an AC system as well.

I picked up a 1994 s10 2dr blazer for $450. It's really nice but as I drive it has little things that come up. It's a 4th car for me so I don't expect too much but I love it.

I sold the Viggen after a short ownership haha. It was more of an impulse buy when I sold my Viper. Transmission started leaking and while I got it fixed, it made me realize the nightmare I was probably getting myself into. As if I didn't learn with the white '95 moneypit saab I had haha.

Saabkyle04 I’m sorry to hear that but as someone who used to own a 2004 9-5 Aero I think you did the right thing moving on. These Saab’s are getting older and they’re only going to get harder to keep on the road as the years go by.

Kyle it looks like she’s a good ol bucket of bolts (not the 93, but the other one) at this point. It was a good run though! Edit: after the battery swap, she seems to be working fine after a couple jumps! She seems pretty grumpy this time around though :)

Be careful leaving them sit, I have a 92 Bravada we kept it as a spare because it was in good shape but we really didn't drive it and the frame rusted out. Shame, the car itself is in pretty good condition, runs, drives, sure the fuel line needs replaced and it needs a knock sensor and its rusted to hell, but it'll still get you where you need to go. State won't pass it though so it's just been sitting. I'd love to get another one. Just don't make em like they used to. If you ever see a Bravada with Smarttrac try and snag it Kyle, best version of the S10/S15 family imo.
