As a kid, I saw it as a fluffy sword. And you revived monsters by stabbing them with it. Now I think the fluffy cross was like some sort of emblem or jewel used in the “reborn ritual.” Something the user holds. Like how an Ankh is commonly seen being held or used on a scepter. I prefer my childhood interpretation.

Yeah, it does look pretty sword-like. I think I thought something similar when I first saw it.

I had the first idea too, as it could be mistaken as a blade instead of an uhh cylinder crystal type of thing it's going for. It could be small like a dagger. Nothing like bringing back the dead with a blade XD.

I've always seen it as a kind of magic talisman but I can see it as a potion or staff too
@GatorEXYGO

A talisman makes sense too! Some kinda vague magical item, I guess 😂

I used to see it as some handle less dagger you jammed into the heart of a corpse.
I always saw it as a monster itself. As a kid I thought all the cards were basically monsters, even spell cards like this. My imagination made me see it as a weird scepter with its brain exposed on top and the gem in the middle was its eye. It also had wings. That's how I saw it.
@GatorEXYGO

Yep, that gem totally looks like an eye 👁️
@Helm-0

RIGHT ?? The gem was the eye and the weird fluffy thing at the top was a mane f some sort

Doesn't the anime show monsters are brought out from the gem, I always though it was like a philosophers stone embedded in a pendant or a magic monument.
Given that the Tiny metal plate atop the Item has a Face on it, and the feathers... I always assumed it was a Holy Symbol/icon/pendant Representing An Angel or deity of death and rebirth... The Crystalline "blade" representing Death and the holy Feathers Representing the Soul Rising Above Death... But really, only the card Artist Knows...
@connor3284

I wouldn't even be surprised if the artist doesn't know. "Hey man, I got paid 30 bucks back in 2002 to draw something vaguely magical. I don't know what it is, either, I just sort of made a magical shape that's interesting."
I always saw it as a monstrous key, like a kind of key that opens a portal when submerged into the ground.

Yes. Me too
I always saw it as like a sword you would stab into the grave Where a dead creature was laying , it would then infuse the grave with magical energy resurrecting the creature
@GatorEXYGO

I’m seeing a lot of people saying sword and I think that’s so interesting.
As a kid I thought it was a weird monster, with the top being the hair, the green points above the red being eyes, the red gem being a nose and the bottom vial being it's tongue. As a kid I also thought that Polywag's circle thingy was its mouth, so it's fair to say I wasn't good at seeing details back then.
It is a key to the gates of the afterlife: turn left for Heaven, and right for Hell. The original Japanese pic is of an Ankh, which symbolizes life and rebirth.
I always saw it as a kind of magical artifact about the size of your torso that has the ability to resurrect anything once. You know the kind of artifact that you will find floating above or standing on top of an alter. It really is powerful magic if you think about it.
Monster Reborn… I thought it was some kinda ritual revival funeral shrine. You put it on the grave, it takes the place instead and with it own divine life bring blue energy bring back the fallen monster I love the card design and never forget it too. I always use one in my deck and special destiny draw. Even times when I grab my opponent monster to have the (You shouldn’t have disrespect or discard your monster) move or my revenge turn kill
@GatorEXYGO

Hmm, that’s a good interpretation of it. I mean, it makes sense with gameplay 🤷♂️
@ChronoHarvester

That's a pretty solid interpretation. Stick it on a gravestone and pour spell energy into it to restore whoever is buried underneath. I like it.
Head-on view of some kind of angelic motorcycle that my monster is going to ride back to the duel.

Foreshadowing for 5D’s
I thought it was a sword or a charm of some sort but after watching zexal i can jokingly see it as an non transformed number monster (like utopia when summoned was a weird pillar thing that becomes a warrior and even have an alt art of that)
It reminds me a bit of the staff/talismans shrine priestesses are shown using. As a kid, I always thought it looked a bit like a monster itself, with the red gem beig its eye
That reborn reborn artwork is so metal, I had no idea about it but now I need it
Great card design. Simple, swings the game and I love that you're able to revive your opponent's monster, it's like having a mystery card in your deck.
I've always seen this as a magic pendant/crystal/item in general. Its STILL one of my all time favorite designed cards to date. As much as i like egyptian themed stuff the ahnk for original monster reborn is such a bore. But the crystal pendant that revives a monster to fight for you? God its amazing!
I just figured it was a talisman or relic that you conduct a resurrection ritual with.
It looks like a fancy dagger to me. What a dagger has to do with coming back to life, I don't know. It usually does the opposite of that.
@devonm042690

I mean, ritual daggers are a thing.
I always thought it was like a badge or crest. Some symbol of rebirth in the world of Duel Monsters.
I've always seen the object of Monster Reborn as a magical pendant worn by a cleric or some other expert in magic that focuses on healing & rejuvenation. As the magical energy of Monster Reborn is cast, it glows within the blue gem in the bottom half before being emitted out of the red jewel on the scarab-like part as the energy restores the monster.
When I was a kid, I thought it was a talisman, but then I decided to view it as some kind of armor or or robe, where the red gem goes over the chest, but the weird "circle" part is behind the wearer's head, and the long purple part going down between the legs. The idea I came up with was that you would put it on someone who was deceased and through a ritual their soul would be bound to the red gem in the center and therefore, they'd be bound to the armor.
It looks like when I was learning to draw manga in 6th grade and would keep adding pouches and accessories needlessly.
I’ve been pondering this for a good decade
I kind of interpreted it like a magical elevator with the bottom thing as like a compartment the revived monster would come out of. Like a holy/mechanical revival vessal of some sort
I immediately saw it as a key and never questioned it lol
My whole life i thought it was some fancy looking jellyfish
I thought of it as a hand help scepter, where you hold onto the bottom blue prism thing
Bro I did not know you had a YGO channel, I already loved your super short, digestible Pokemon videos, seeing you branch out into other things I like is such a pleasure!
It's an holy armored Owl. The red thing is the beak and you can see the green eyes just beside that. It also has a fluffy head.
Hmm... I always thought it's a vial with a monster-looking cap. Or a monster with a vial as its body part (maybe it was supposed to be something like DQ's Healing Slime...?). It was always either of these two, depending on when you'd ask me. Today I feel like it's a monster.
its some kind of blue Kedora with one red eye jewel.
my kid brain always interpreted it as some weird angel however looking at it as a creature now, interpreting the green part as eyes and the part around the big gem as a mouth, along with the antenna, makes me think of it as some sort of ojama god, which if i died and went to ojama heaven i would crawl my way out of the ground too
I was in elementary school when Yu-Gi-Oh was released in America. I recall visiting and purchasing my first pack from my local card store. I ended up pulling a first edition holographic Monster Reborn card. I felt bummed because I didn't pull a monster, but thought the card was cool because it was shiny. I ended up giving it away for free to one of my classmates a few months later.
For the longest time I thought it was a sword.
Ive always imagined it as a reverse gravestone, you stick it in the grave and it revives the monster underneath it
To me the top looked like some king of weird spider, 'cause of the "hairy stomch" and the "face", the 2 circles being the eyes and the red jewel a "mouth". My mind just ignored the bottom nail-like part
A Spell That Resurrects a monsters from the Opponent graveyard and Places it on the Player side of the Field Yugioh GX Duel Academy select 1 monsters card from either your own graveyard and place it on the Field under your control in attack or defense position face up its Effects
It's the Skylanders trap team crystal thingies, obviously.
When I first saw Monster Reborn as a kid I thought it looked like a monster with one giant red eye with its mouth wide open and thats what I still see
I've been listening to The Millennium Microphone and the other day they brought it up now I see this video I assumed it was a talisman when I learned Monster Reborn was an Ankh I was like cool but my brain always thinks of the American version
Me and my brother played yugioh and we dint knew what it does, so i had an idea 1. use was revive but it gives debuff 2. use as buffing monsters like +500 attack does not change the defend
I thought originally that the bottom part was supposed to be a jewel and the rest part of a necklace or some type of funky sword
It's a multitool. Use it to open Wine bottles, take phone calls, refill your tires with air, freshen and purify the air in your room, and diagnosis your pet plants health.

This is the best answer lmao
in a game of yugioh the monster reborn design turns into a bird. the red scarlet in the middle its the peck, you should watch that
As a kid i though that crystal thing was a door, of course a door to cross between life and death and thats how it worked. The door opens and the monster revived crosses from the GY to the field or something like that. Now as an adult feels more like a totem or something xD
Honestly it's just a fancy crystal key. It also appears as if the crystal could be detached and reattached like reloading it after using it. Think of it like Skyrim and soul trapping stuff, you can see the spark of consciousness inside the crystal on the card.
Always thought it was like a weird funky cross that look like a sacred artifact not unlike the TriForce or something
@GatorEXYGO

Ooh, I think that’s a good comparison. I could see that.
its one of those traptanium seals from skylanders trapforce
_REBORN THE GATOR_ Honestly, part of me thought it was some sort of weird ancient magical sword way back in the day. 😂😂 (there are no rules lol)
@GatorEXYGO
Жыл бұрын
Yeah, I can definitely see the sword. I feel like I thought the same thing first time I saw it.
To me, It looks like a dagger, or a weird short ceremonial sword with no handle
Monster Reborn is so powerful that in Yugioh Sevens you can us it to wipe your opponent’s memory.
Always thought it's a small totem you throw or break to activate the spell.
i always thought it looked like something that was supposed to be a cross, but they weren't allowed to draw a cross for some reason, so they changed it up some. pretty funny that i was almost right.
I've always assumed Monster Reborn was an anime-ified egyptian cartouche pendant designed to be placed around the neck of a monster in order to breathe life back into it.
I see it as an Magic amulet that you break, and it summons the monster
Before watching, my guess is some sort of amulet. Edit after watching: Yeah, I still think it's some sort of amulet. Knowing about the other reborn cards only solidifies that view. They look even more like amulets and less like a staff or potion vial.
Iv always imagined it as Giant Rat reviving
Personally, I always imagine the crystally thing at the bottom shooting some sort of beam to revive things.
I always saw it as some kind of depiction of a monster that would transform into the monster you were reborning.
I'm not even exaggerating when I say I asked this exact same question as a kid and would stare at my copy while trying to find meaning in the detail. It's at once extremely intricate and deliberate with its features-- yet any part of it is so ambiguous in what it's meant to actually be made of material-wise.
I think the mystery of Monster Reborn is its charm. And its mystery is only exceeded by its power.
When I was little I just really thought it was a motorcycle
Thats funny that the ankh was censored, when in games lile super ghouls n ghosts the crosses were replaced by ankhs in the international release 😂
I see it as a angel object with a sword for its lower half
I see it as an Angel Inspired Crest with a Crystal below
I love the LOB ultra rare Monster Reborn. It just looks so nice.
I always thought it was some kind of weird handleless sword
I remember my dad bought me and my brothers the darkness legends pack and they got theirs first while I had to downstairs to get the 2 packs from my dad and when I opened the pack it was a Super Rare Monster Reborn I was so lucky
Always saw it as a cross from an unknown god you would put as a necklace.
the top is fuzzy for some reason... kind of wild to think about how monster reborn is legal in the tcg right now (limited at one copy whereas cards without restrictions can be run at most in 3 copies). and it may not even be a useful card for every deck.
I grew up relating it to the skylanders trap team crystal, lol. I grew up in a special time.
Don’t know what the western artwork is, but it sure looks cool.
i always saw it as some squid octopus thing
I always, ALWAYS thought it looked like Squidward.
It looks like an Afro, attached to either a potion or a staff of some sort
I always thought it was a sick motorcycle
As a kid, it looked like a squid/jellyfish monster to me
I believe it's a biblical accurate angel. Big eye, no shape, it floats, associated with the after life, ect. Also keeps in theme for the other "reborn" cards since no angel is exactly alike.
I always saw it as some sort of jellyfish gem hybrid
It looks beautiful as a luxurious necklace to put it on yourself 💎
I always assumed it was some kind of eldritch monster that revived other cards.
To be honest, I've always seen it as a pelvis, since the monster is being _reborn._
It's a fancy pendant, that's it.
It’s definitely a weird looking card, that’s for sure. The over-detailing of it reminds me of a lot of religious artworks, which is ironic given that it was specifically made to lack a religious theme.
I used to think it Looks like a dagger or sword. Probably an ornate talisman or pendant, like the one in lord of the rings
Ah, Monster Reborn, my first authentic card!
Based on the artwork of Monster Reborn Reborn it's a disguise that the ankh has to wear in order to make it overseas.
It looks vaguely Japanese priestess-inspired, so my guess is either that, a newly-devised monster being reborn, or something like a biblically-accurate angel.
It's a ceremonial gravestone
I've always seen it as a magical knife or sword which when submerged to the ground revived the monsters.
Pretty much looks like a key or a pendant.
I always saw it as a dagger
the design is really dope, and for me it's staff that has life itself
It's basically an Emblem that suits about the same as the original
I thought it looked like a uterus... What gynecology does to a man...
It reminds me of the magic crystal from final fantasy crystal but if the crystal had a final form. So maybe like a heavenly crystal
It looks similar to saifojio spell from Zatch Bell manga.
I've always seen it as a sword
Welcome back! Monster Reborn is an enigma.
It's the business part of a chastity belt.
