29:35, in reference to this, i just want to say thank you, not just to Alan, but to the full team, for not only regularly working hard whilst dealing with serious personal struggles and putting out unerringly spectacular content and providing brief moments of distraction from the day to day grind for millions of people, but also for being shining examples of the fact that depression/anxiety, and other mental struggles are not insurmountable roadblocks to becoming successful and having the chance to live your dreams. So thank you a million times over.

Need to be careful though. Makes it sound like the anxiety and depression go away rather than learn to be coped with. Can't change neurology. Can learn ways to adjust and learn coping methods. But in a lot of ways you don't overcome or surmount it. You learn to live with it. A good portion of the negative impacts on one's life from these conditions is how society reacts to how you cope with it. If the best way for you to deal with a panic attack is isolate, destimulate, and turn down the overactive parts of your brain before returning to whatever you were doing is disruptive to a lot of work environments. Can't always engage in self care. And THAT is the real problem. That we are forced to prioritize the wants of others and the mechanism of business over our own needs drives a LOT of the anxiety people deal with. Specifically because we are encouraged to ignore our own needs, not just defer them, because of how expensive that self care can be.

I'd been struggling with mental health for the longest time because of my job, even after getting everything I asked for in my career, and I hated myself so much for it. I wonder how much as been related to having children as I've always struggled a bit, but my inner narrative became a lot more difficult to deal with once I had my daughter who is now two. I just moved to Italy as a Dutch person 4 weeks ago. I love this country a lot, and I work remotely. But exactly as you say, I have to start over again. It’s the first time in life I actually ask myself: how do I make friends? A lot of people say: go to a bar. Sure, fun conversations, but friendships? It’s hard. So I’m going to do dancing lessons and gym group sessions literally starting tomorrow. Next to that, I downloaded Tinder and Bumble for purely friendships. So yeah, it’s a good challenge. Let’s see what it will bring me!

Reminds me of the book of Ecclesiastes. Such a common issue to think things or pursuits will make us happy, and then payday goes to the mortgage! But there is (great point, Adam) a connection between us and something deeply meaningful when we positively impact each other. Thanks, guys, for using your acquired talents and creativity and drive to benefit others, even me. Well done.

As an adult it's hard to make friends outside of work. The only thing i can recommend is doing things and going places where other people will be also. Whether it be church or a club or just even going to the park. The more you go places the more people you meet and the more likely you will find a friend.

I know exactly what you were talking about, when you said the thing with the "ruining good moments by trying to hold onto them". I really struggled with that for some time actually. What helped me with it was this metaphor that I randomly came up with one day: It's like I'm outside in a summer rain, all romantic and stuff and I try enjoying it by attempting to catch the raindrops out of the air with my hands. Which obviously doesn't work and that makes me unsatisfied and unhappy. But then when I stop trying to catch it and just let it do it's thing and rain down on me. And when I also shift my fokus away from my hands and towards my skin and how the rain feels on it. And also towards how it sounds and smells. That's when it gets really good. I don't know if what I'm saying makes sense to anyone else lol. I think it might be about letting go of my own expectations about how happiness has to feel and also about letting go of the attitude that it's my job to like catch all the happiness that is in a moment. Because the stuff that might make me happy is alredy there coming to me and I can just take it in with my senses and percieve weather it is giving me good feelings or not. And if it does, that's great, but if it doesn't or just a little bit, that is okay too.

my whole life I moved around so much, and was such a weird kid, I never had any honest friends until highschool, and I've only made one solid friend since then. even if you have a social thing you go to, it's hard to actually have decent friends when you're in your 30s and later.
