    The other major female hormone is progesterone. It allows ovum creation to be inhibited in the peak of the ovarian cycle. It’s the birth control hormone. I just got finished with the reproductive system in my Anatomy and Physiology 2 class. I’m a nursing major so I love your content guys!

    I feel like estrogen is in itself a con 😅, veeeery low metabolic rate, bleeding is easier, injuries don't heal as fast affecting athletic performance. (like even with osteoporosis, estrogen wasn't reliable because it fades at menopause. I wonder why it's not the same with men.).. I mean.. I believe evolution and SEXUAL selection really shaped how estrogen affects women. Like if you read why women have to carry permanent breasts, unlike all other 5000 mammals, it's because of sexual selection (meaning the excess fat in the female chest is the result of what ancient male hominids selected.) Carrying permanent breasts can be a HUGE disadvantage for women and only feels good for the observer. Breast fat reduction reduces breast cancer risk by a staggering 95% according to business insider. and the list of horrible disadvantages goes on. Read what breast fat does to milk production according to the international consortium of milk genomics. Read how it makes it harder to run and engenders longer colds, weaker immune system. Weaker everything it seems 😅 and it's all because of.. how women were sexually selected to begin with. I mean, even the size of the human jaw decreased drastically after humans were accustomed to softer (more processed) foods. So imagine the changes that could've evolutionarily taken place in the female body after eons of being forced to be at home. The environment you're in, long term, really affects your biology. That's why men are stronger (have stronger pectorals). because they were the hunters. I envy anyone, man or woman, with a strong pectoral and honestly, don't like the way women have turned out because they're at a HUGE physical disadvantage because of sexual selection. They were physically remodeled by it way more than men ever were according to Psychology Today, which I find very disheartening and sad.

    @@justinaacuriouswanderer1496 But I dont fully accept this idea. Every hormone has its role. If it did bring huge disadvantages it wont get selected. Estrogen facilitates higher cognitive power in brain in regions like cortex and hippocampus. This have women advantage over men interms of intelligence and brain usage or power. And your disadvantages are not worrying, I dont think it matters to nature. For example childbirth pain. Its a torture. But its a result of humans being able to walk on two legs. So if we walked on four limbs like our related primates, women wont have the nightmare labour pain, but bipedalism gave a greater amount of advantage, thus the pain continued.

    I've had issue with periods over 11 years, pain being so unbearable I could pass out from cramps. It was after couple of different gynecologist checkups later, that I was told that my female hormones were lacking. I had absence of progesterone that is important during pregnancy, but also to reduce pain from cramps. Here I thought it was endometriosis, no it is lack of progesterone. I was given UID that included progesterone, and it gave me a chance to not pass out from period pain, in fact it made me almost forget I even had period.

  • @msc8382

    @msc8382

    2 жыл бұрын

    Summary: Addiction happens because the body wants to be regulated. Its the most sustainable form of itself its trying to be. Long term exposure to stress makes it hard for people to 'feel good'. This is called andrenal fatique. A regulated body has no cravings for non-natural substances. People get deregulated all the time. Addiction is the consequence of using rituals or substance to make up for the deregulation consciously. Unfortunately addiction is often destructive because we do not control the consequences of using substances or rituals. Long story: One of the major physiological responses to addiction is andrenal fatique. It basically means: 1. Your body's circadian rhythms become so deregulated, the healing hormones (in this case, dopamine, oxytocin, serotonin, melatonin and ultimately GABA) do not get released at the time where its needed, so any cortisol spike will persist and cause you to burn through your energy even while you're sleeping. 2. Your coping behaviour does not allow you to exit the stressful situation, which will cause you to associate the elevated stress with those circumstances. That is the leading reason why people will want to escape it (stress is so tiring!). Each time those circumstances would occur, you'll immediately go into fight and flight. Fight and flight is a state of mind where we're forced to deal with the immediate circumstances and process it deeply but quickly. Its one of the highest forms of stress, and extremely draining. The first signal our unconscious gives us to make us aware is called a trigger. It effectively means if you're uneducated in dealing with stress, you have NO way to exit this state of mind. The worst case scenario is that you'll go mad as nothing will make sense to you while you're in stress. You could say you're not even yourself at those moments. 3. Using the substance usually helps regulate some imbalance in hormones. It actually does work for a moment, until you're unregulated again. If it did not help in the first place, you would not be using it. The problem is that addiction gets you distracted to the alternative options that could help you regulate yourself with a substance or addicting ritual. However, what makes addiction so dangerous is that you get used to the unbalanced state of your body. You learn to work and complete your responsibilities with elevated stresses and the like. You'll even justify it saying you feel a bit driven by it. But you will not be able to explain the constant tiredness. You'll not be able to explain why there's a craving. This is because addiction is both physical and psychological. Just because your friends or family says its normal to be interested in certain substances or social events doesn't mean they're healthy for you. Just because socially you may be gaining so much, doesn't mean your brain is capable of dealing with all that hard draining work you're doing. In this sense, workaholism can be just as addicting as any other substance. The trick is not to try to avoid an addiction. The trick is to make it impossible to start or to have a sureshot way to deal with consequences. This may mean you have to let go of your own responsibilities and temporarily let someone else handle them for you, so you can recover. This is why an addict should go into rehab (and ONLY that reason); to regain control over the consequences they're responsible for themselves. Think about this: Without water, you'll not survive. Without a certain atmosphere (air), you cannot breathe and you'll not survive. If we do not get the right nutrients, minerals and vitamins to flush out toxins, we'll become regulated and we'll not survive. Addiction is nothing more than the naive regulation of a conscious mind trying to manually control a subconscious process. Could be any process that may be going wrong that will end deregulating you. But surely it'll happen. Will you grab a substance, a ritual or will you deal with all the consequences before you become addicted? Chances are you're addicted because you were incompetent in dealing with the consequences in the first place. Imagine if you realize this as an addict. It could be a strong reason to become depressed.
