Awesome pickup on the Magnavox DVD VCR combo! Looking forward to continue utilizing Flipwise in my business and also to start incorporating it in my content as well. It has been an amazing tool and I’m glad to have helped participate in the beta test. This year I’ve been focusing on high sell through rate items and I’ve managed to do nearly $18,000 in sales in the past 90 days on ebay with 375 items sold!

FOR YEARS I have been saying this to everyone in every vlog that it has to be illegal for eBay to be collecting promoted fees on top of the sales tax. I have been selling for 23 years on eBay and I sell over $100,000. To put it in perspective. The 7,000 of sales tax they are getting Extra $1400 from me. And I never even see the sales tax money. This has to be illegal and I'm glad somebody else that has a KZread platform is speaking up

I'm pretty sure Ebay is required by law in most states to collect and submit the tax.....so I don't think they should be adding it to the fees.

Required doesn't mean free. They still have expenses associated with processing. I don't understand why being required would make it free.

Which is why eBay likes to hide that they apply your promoted rate to sales tax. It’s just one more way to take, take, take

Because that's how it's set-up. Like it or not you agreed to it when you agreed to the TOS. I sure hope you aren't making a dime off shipping because if you are, that ain't right. You should only charge the customer the exact amount it cost you to ship the item. 🙄

Amazing someone would walk away from all of that great stuff.

At the 4 day mark, a seller can click the cancel sale button. The option "Buyer hasn't paid" appears after that amount of time. Use that option and cancel the sale. Sometimes eBay doesn't always cancel the sale in a timely matter.

If you do it then you don’t get refund of any listing fees. It cancels four days exactly from the time it sold.

@@ypcomchic If a buyer never pays, there is no fees. It's the same as a person clicking the buy button, then immediately requesting to cancel. 0 fees on 0 dollars paid. Just looked at a few of my cancelled sales. Also, I've had numerous times when the sale is not cancelled for non payment exactly at 4 days.

+100 Garage sales are the home of highest margins. Funny on American Girl. Went to a garage sale last week, an entire table was covered with American Girl stuff, all with original boxes. "How much for all of it" "$25." First sale more than paid for all of it. $500+ worth of stuff, need to get listing.

Nah, you're 100% correct with your view on FVF on sales tax. Anyone that's doing a reasonable amount of volume would likely be in a situation where they'd not only have to collect, track, and remit sales tax, but they'd have to do this for all 50 states, most of which have different tax rates, filing rules, and methods of filing and submission. Anyone that would prefer doing all of that on their own (and take on all the risks associated with possibly screwing something up) vs giving eBay an extra couple cents per order is out of their mind. If somebody has an issue with it, then build an extra $.10 into your order price and let the buyer pay for it. Not rocket science here.

Also, when it comes to 'Non payment' after 4 days, I will message the buyer asking if they would like a little more time, if i dont get a response after 24 hours ill cancel at that point and relist. I allow customers time to pay and it works out well because alot of times when they do get money to pay they will buy more items.

In Ontario Canada ebay is required to collect sales tax from buyers but these amounts (Gst and Hst) get subtracted from the final value cost before ebay calculates their fee.

What software do you use for your resell business besides Flipwise?

As an alternative to lowing prices consider offering $4 shipping or 10% or 20% off coupon. Those options tend to generate more sales. I have offered Free shipping in the past on "things that fit in the palm of you hand," and had great success in selling old stale items.

Something to think about. Will your flipwise also aggregate data from PirateShip for my ebay shipping? I dont know much about your software and even that you created it. But I would be curious... found you after your talk with Jride. Great content, editing, quality, info etc. Much appreciated

Thank you! Pirate Ship does not have an API, which makes integration difficult... but we do hope to partner with them in the future so that Flipwise members can have their shipping costs automatically imported like they do for those who buy labels through eBay.

I've been watching your video's and learning a lot. Thanks so much for answering my question on your latest video. I really did think the sold item would be held for 30 full days waiting for payment. Now that I know it's only 4 days, I will be more patient. :-)

On clothes do you put condition as used? Or selecting new when you bought from goodwill?

You’d only ever list something as “new” if it is EXACTLY as you’d expect from the store/manufacturer- tags or packaging present, and zero odors or hairs or anything else. “Open box” and “new with defects” are options for generally unused items, which may show minor wear from being around. Used is an item that has seen 1 or more uses.

Great ‘shoe’ question. I bought a used pair of nice shoes. Got home, only to find that it says size 6 when it is easily a narrow size 9. It’s in my drafts bc I was stunned by that. Do I list measurements or just re-donate them?

I agree with you on paying fees on sales tax with states requiring people who sell interstate to pay the sales tax I am glade EBay is doing it for us it’s not just state sales tax it also different in each county and sometimes cities have different sales tax it would be impossible for a seller to keep up with it

Do you look up comps when you are at the sales? Or do you just have the knowledge now?

Do you delist and relist items that have a lot of views and/or watchers ? Or do you focus on items that have not been viewed a lot ?

I don't mind that they charge their fees based on sale of item plus shipping plus sales tax but what I don't understand is why do then take that commission fee from the sale price only shouldn't it be from the three mentioned above total.

I had an ebay representative inform me that i can ust whatever options that are available when it comes to returns. I never refund shipping because 90% of rerurns are false claims like people not reading the descriptions or buyers remorse. Ebay does cover the shipping costs and with all the promotion fees and sellomg fees they can afford it.

I have the auto pay.... It works out great for sales. Them collecting the tax is great the time it saves me is invaluable!!!

If you are unsure if shipping should be refunded, then compromise and refund half of the shipping cost.

Any plans of adding other platforms to flipwise for cross listing purposes?

Ebays fees are what they are, all you can do is learn them and build your brand around them, and buy with it all in mind. Sure being canadian it hurts a little more with the shipping costs being higher but it is what it is. I still do well, and my average COGS is 1 dollar or less. I buy bulk items, whether thats postcards, jewelry, photos, trading cards, toys, watches etc.

That Magnavox DVD recorder combo (recorder being the key term) will sell for over $200 with the remote in decent condition, so you passed a good deal along to someone else too.

I am of the belief that eBay sellers are available to people who misuse credit card number or I am available as a way to be misused; is there a way to set up an acct that would be paid by check and formal billing?

I bought something this week from a seller offer and I did have to “pay” first by confirming my payment info.

On mercari, the customer has to put payment info prior to sending offer and they get charged when you accept.

After 4 days eBay will cancel orders that were not paid for. I had this just happen this week.

eBay sucks in general regarding fee transparency. Every other selling platform I’ve used, said flat out in a single sentence or paragraph what the fees are. I gave up on eBay as each online fee calculator told me something different.

To answer your question, from a business perspective, the seller would lose money to refund, however, from a customer view, it's not techincally the buyers fault. Some shows run narrow and if it wasn't stated in the description that could be an issue as well. We would definitely expect a refund if we went into any store to purchase shoes. Unfortunately, I think it's part of doing business. Disappointing though.

I've had problems with buyers not paying auctions and even more so, buy nows. If they don't pay within a few hours I send them a polite message to pay within X time otherwise I will cancel and that has worked well. And if they don't pay within X time (usually a couple hours) then I cancel. They can always go back and buy it when they are actually ready to pay. I do not like that a buyer can 'buy now' and not be forced to pay at that moment. That hostage situation is frustrating so I avoid it by following my process. If they complain then that's a buyer I do not want anyway.

In the listing at bottom before you hit list- the section that has your shipping time- on buy it now you can toggle switch for them to pay immediately.

i think is illegal for charge a fee on taxes that belong to the gov....it is not a valid excuse for ebay to do that. taxes are something that we all pay in one time or another and no buss can charge anything on top of that...that is illegal

You should go back to that sale estate sale and see what they have left and offer them. You'll haul it away. I bet you'll get a lot more good stuff.

I personally do believe they should include taxes in fees calculation. But it is their rules, if you wanna play in the eBay sandbox

Yeah, but the streamlined sales tax made it so it’s impossible for a small website to handle its own taxes. We’re forced to use eBay or Amazon in that respect. If I live in Nevada I should collect Nevada sales tax on every sale, not for the state where the buyer lives. If the buyer comes to Nevada and buys something they pay Nevada tax, not tax for the state where they live. Big Retail Federation scam that benefits Amazon even more.

I’d rather eBay collect and remit my sales tax and I’m very happy to pay it. Imagine if you had to do it yourself for each state.

Due to side hustle on eBay it now is illegal march 11 2024 if you work full or part time u now have to get company name and get tax number so I’ve seen more people leave 4/1724

They shouldn’t be hitting us with sale tax and Tax over again . I sold and item for 90 and got 60 , they taxed me twice , which shouldn’t be right . I didn’t Even promote too…

I never refund shipping, and I'm protected by eBay to not refund shipping. They will refund the buyer with no effect to me if the buyer makes make some issue of it. Also, I never offer free shipping, I just have a reasonable shipping fee and reflect that in the purchase price, because if I discount the item by a percentage my shipping charge still stays constant. If you count on a $10 shipping charge in your purchase price with free shipping and discount at 10% you're really only getting $9 for shipping

Another way to look at the ebay fees: They look at it like paypal did. Paypal charges you a fee based on the total amount of money moved. Now, so does ebay.

Strongly disagree with the fee section. Yes, sellers adding profit to shipping was a problem but there are dozens of ways ebay could have (and should have) dealt with that systematically instead of deciding to allow sellers to continue adding excess shipping (in violation of ebay's own policies) and then profiting off that policy violation. Taking fees on taxes is equally predatory. Ebay's marginal cost to add a line of code charging tax is negligible, and the fee they charge for that (up to 20%) is usurious. All of it is a reflection of ebay as a poorly-run business milking their customer base (sellers) for fees instead of improving operations in order to generate savings.

I have the opposite problem with Facebook marketplace. I have so much stuff listed and people go is this still available? I say yes then I never hear back or they’ll say well. Give me your address and I’ll come and get it. I’m set up for public meet. Then I’ll have six people say is this available and I say yes it’s available and maybe half of them will respond and then trying to meet up with them is impossible. I’ve had people show up late. I miss read one message and sold a giant teddy bear for 10 bucks instead of 25 because I thought she said is this available and I said yes but she said $10 and I did not see it. Do you have to be very careful. I have sold a half a dozen things and I have so many more things but it’s just really really hard but I don’t wanna get into eBay because of all the horror stories and we travel a lot, so I’m gone on vacation twice a year for three weeks at a time and then we go camping and boating all summer long and I’m not around. I just can’t see how it would work.

Paying the fee EBay charges me on sale tax is worth every penny! They save me time, work, frustration, and give me one less thing I have to repent for😹😹😹. Anyone wanting to take care of the sales tax all by themselves can have at it.

I would refund the money. If you purchase something in a store and find it does not fit right the store will more likely refund your money or give a store credit.

eBay is already charging a huge final value fee for their platform/admin costs, that should more than cover their costs to collect and remit sales tax. eBay should not charge the sellers for FVF on the sales tax. Additionally, with the new policy that’s rolling out on giving buyers discounted eBay rates on calculated shipping, it’s going to cut way into sellers profit margin because now we’re paying FVF on sales price, ACTUAL shipping cost, AND sales tax. So we’re losing money on shipping and FVF on tax, effectively making our final value fees much higher than advertised. Sneaky sneaky.

Keep in mind you can ALWAYS cancel an order as “buyer didn’t pay” after 96 hours (4days) just go into the order details and select it from the prompts But there is a way to set up your store to do it automatically But that part isn’t necessary… just more convenient

I agree and think it's fair they keep commission on sales tax. If they ever start charging a fee for sales tax collection and remittance I'm going to give birth to a pterodactyl.

Facebook marketplace is the bottom barrel of resellers. Often unreliable and way over retail prices. If it is priced to sell, it's sold in 10 minutes.

Cancel it yourself after 4 days and the reason you pick Buyer Didn't Pay is all you do.

Say “fifth-best flip of the week” five times fast.

If it's not my fault, I don't refund the shipping. It is clear in my listings and eBay policy that the buyer pays shipping.
