Thank you, so informative. I've been so confused with all the options available after I recently took up running again. I was recommended a Brooks Adrenaline 23 after they fitted me (I tend to get knee pain with some low heel shoes,my left foot has slight pronation, achilles area get very tight and the bones underneath my right foot below toe area hurts mostly always, and i have a funny gait, my feet tend to swing out, almost like a duck. I also have wide feet because of bunions) I went for my first run with the new shoes today and the knee was fine, ankles felt strong, but i did experience somewhat of a tightness in my left lowerback and a faint niggle in my right hip flexor. After doing some research I now wonder if the 12mm heel drop of this pair may perhaps not be right for me, even though they felt its the best shoe for my runniny style and areas of concern. Is this something that would get better with more miles with these shoes? I sure hope so, as I would be very sad to have wasted money on the wrong pair of shoes. Your guidance in this regard will surely be appreciated!

It sounds like you do tend to like a higher heel drop shoe but the body will adjust and adapt. 12mm is definitely higher and if after doing daily lower back mobility exercises you still feel you back then I would recommend going down to an 8mm drop range. Here are some mobility exercises I would suggest: kzread.info/dash/bejne/YqOasMevdJqnY5c.html

@sparkhealthyrunner thank you so much! I believe this will be very helpful for overall mobility of the back, which turns out to be the real problem after a visit to my chiro.

My feet have been aching/cramping when I run on mostly the outside but sometimes inside of the foot too. I have been running with the ASICS gel nimbus 23 and has a 10mm heel drop, should I get a shoe with a lower heel drop?

Usually not not as that will shift more weight and load to your foot

I guess we all use to call them sneakers, we all ran and walked in the same shoe unless you were good at track and someone bought you track shoes. We also called them tennis shoes and it meant the same thing unless you were a pro. Not so any more, now tennis shoes are for tennis. Now shoes are made for each and every sport

I have never in my life refered to shoes as "sneakers". Perhaps sneakers is an American term?

no offense but you might want to work on your economy/density, if you know what I mean. this could have easily been a 10 minute video, if not a 5 to 7 minute video.
