What does the increasing recognition of Palestinian statehood mean? | Inside Story

Until now, most western countries have maintained they will formally recognise Palestinian statehood only at the end of a peace process with Israel.
But after nearly seven months of Israel's devastating war on Gaza that's killed more than 35,000 Palestinians, Norway, Ireland and Spain say they won't wait any longer.
But the European Union is divided on the issue and larger powers like France say it's not the right time to recognise a Palestinian state.
And a U.S. veto still holds back Palestine's bid to gain full membership at the United Nations.
Will other European nations follow Norway, Ireland and Spain?
And what does this mean for Palestine's efforts to become a full member of the United Nations?
Presenter: Cyril Vanier
Guests:
Yossi Beilin - Former Israeli Cabinet Minister, who initiated the Oslo Peace Process in 1992.
Julien Barnes-Dacey - Director of the Middle East and North Africa programme at the European Council on Foreign Relations.
Carne Ross - Former British Diplomat assigned to the United Nations, who resigned and founded the not-for-profit advisory group, Independent Diplomat.

If Russia and China can be full members of the UN, there is no excuse why Palestine can't be a member. If Russia can invade Ukraine and still remain a full member of the UN, Palestine should get the same consideration of becoming a member, even if it's not a full membership. Palestine needs to be at the table, not be a topic at the table, to discuss their future as a recognized state!

Stop citing a big power like Russia Federation to justify your weak statement. Free Palestine 🇵🇸, end the occupation and Apatheid. Palestine will be free.

You should correct your statement. Russia didn't invade Ukraine, Russia is defending its border from US using and leading Ukraine to bring the Nato to Russia's front door. It was US who started the propaganda that Russia will start a war with Ukraine, and with this propaganda led to Ukraine to decide joining Nato; Russia had warned the consequences. Russia is also a big and powerful country, so why can't Russia be a UN member? Same as China. Your example is kind of weird. In fact, all countries should be a full member in the UN, and UN headquarter should move out of US. US don't deserve the right to host the UN HQ in its land. US government is basically the largest terrorist group and leader.

If that’s the case, the US should be expelled for its 70+ invasions and overthrowing of governments. PS - Russia’s actions were in response to US aggression (NATO expansion). very handsome hehe Narrated `Ikrima: `Ali burnt some people and this news reached Ibn `Abbas, who said, "Had I been in his place I would not have burnt them, as the Prophet (ﷺ) said, 'Don't punish (anybody) with Allah's Punishment.' No doubt, I would have killed them, for the Prophet (ﷺ) said, 'If somebody (a Muslim) discards his religion, kill him.' " Reference : Sahih al-Bukhari 3017 In-book reference : Book 56, Hadith 226

She claims she was misquoted. In 1976 and many other times, she claimed there was no such place as Palestine. " A land without people for a people without land" was her famous quote. She was as brutal and as savij as any other z leader. Perhaps the worst of the worst. That supposed quote you posted is an insult to all Palestinian people.

    1. A British Mandate of Palestine passport 2. 1919 Frist Arab Congress: British Mandate of Palestine is southern Syria; we are Syria. Arab words, not Brits, not Jews. 3. 1922 League of Nations: We recognize the British Mandate of Palestine as the ancestral home of the Jews where they can RECONSTITUTE their homeland. 4. The war of 1948 is OVER. The West Bank (an Arab colonial term) was illegally occupied by Jordan from 1948-1967. Gaza was illegally occupied by Egypt from 1948-1967. 5. West Bank residents had Jordanian passports until Jordan abandoned them in 1988. 6. If Palestine is recognized, fine go ahead and build a nation next to, not in replace of Israel. You are no longer refugees (you never were).

John. Golda Meir's statement doesn't prove anything. Palestine was just one of many names given to this land. The name Palestine was given to the land by the Romans. It comes from the word "Philistine". Philistines were originally from Greece and came to this land in the 12th century. There's no direct connection between them and the Palestinians, who are actually Arabs (and some might be converted Jews) who lived in this land for a long time after immigrating from different arab countries (egypt, jordan, syria and more) So yes, Golda was Palestinian from 1921 to 1948, and then she became Israeli, as the name of the land was changed. This conflict is not about the name of the land. Hamas doesn't want a a Palestinian state. they want to extreminate jews. It's part of their agenda and it's not even hidden. It's part of a bigger Islamic plan to take over territories that they think they own. Not only Palestine. you will see it in the near future as they will gradually start to control europe.

England promised a recognized state for Israel and Palestine 70 years ago, at the creation of Israel , but only fulfilled one and it wasn't for the host of this new nation Israel. Of course Israel is furious about this equal rights decision. Only because it will be harder to devour and destroy it's neighbors.
