What Does The Ideal Korean Guy Look Like? [Street Interview] | ASIAN BOSS

Thanks to K-pop and Korean dramas, people overseas have a certain image of Korean men. But what do Koreans think about the ideal Korean guy? We hit the streets of Seoul to find out.
The opinions expressed in this video are those of individual interviewees alone and do not reflect the views of ASIAN BOSS or the general Korean population.

Stream Epiphany Many young girls in my culture idolize or obsess over Korea, especially its idols and Korean people in general. My Cousin’s Bestfriend and her brother are Korean. Every year my people have a big cultural festival called the Hmong New Year. The brother attended as a employee for a Kpop merchandise booth and was completely bothered by many girls who asked for pictures or gifts. Unfortunately, I was one of those girls, but it’s been almost 2 years since then and I’ve grown to learn not to obsess over things like that. He now has a girlfriend and I check on him every once awhile since I follow him on social media. On the other hand, there are girls obviously upset from this, so I just had to let out the idea not to fantasize or obsess over Korean culture. In the end they’re people. I’m not sure if this made any sense, but if you’ve made it this far thanks for reading

@@chonjiuo2027 There's nothing wrong with enjoying Korean culture, the music, and such... But yeah, obsessing about it is going overboard. You start to lose touch with reality. I'm Korean, and me and my best friend who is Japanese, find it EXTREMELY cringy when Koreaboos and Weaboos come up to us and ask us if we're Korean or Japanese and to take pictures and all that. It's absolutely fine to be a big fan of Kpop and Korean entertainment. It's just when non-Koreans try to act Korean and believe that they are Korean or obsess about us is when things start to get creepy.

He hit the nail right on the head: accept people for who they are and not for how they look! Unfortunately, our society at large, the fashion and beauty industry, in a bid to sell their products say otherwise, spinning lies to deceive the masses into believing that outward appearances is what counts, discounting the character and the personality of people, real, every-day-life people.

It is just not worth it. As for ugly ducklings, I totally get it, that is why you should met as adults, not as teens. You never know they may have change but if you are in love, then who cares. Hell, who knows, I may not end up with asian guy, which is fine with me because love is what matters to me. I have met guys who are very handsome but have a boring and dull personality, like you don't know if you can be happy with him as your side for the rest of your life, because all they care about their looks. I like funny guys the most, because it is really hard for someone to make me laugh, i rarely laugh in person because most people I know are not funny, but if someone can make me laugh so much then I'm going to marry him, because I want to laugh and smile a lot for the rest of my life. That is why I decide to judge guys with their personality so it will take me a very long time before we can start a relationship so before that, I will straight up ask him to introduce me to his family and friends because I want to know if he date me for real, dating with marriage in mind, or just for fun. I don't have time to play around. all guys are same and boring, anyone can be sweet and flirty, nothing is new.

i think most of us experience the feeling of being not good enough in terms of looks at some point in our lives but while growing up we start to realize that we can be happy with what we already have as long as we appreciate it and as long as we are nurturing our gifts and once we get there the way we look matters less.. i mean beauty isn't just "in the eyes of the beholder" it's also relative, even the most ugly creature is beautiful in the eyes of those that benefits from it, and the most beautiful human is ugly in the eyes of its enemy so in the end beauty like everything else is a practical feature that makes life vibrate!

It's really true that there is a significant amount of attention directed towards your appearance. When I was an exchange student in Korea, I feel the pressure to dress well and look good even though I'm just heading downstairs to buy some dinner or groceries. Nevertheless, it has helped me become more aware of my appearance and hence I would make an effort to dress up whenever I'm heading out. When I first returned home from Korea, it was kind of difficult to acclimatize to the way my local citizens are dressed. Thinking back, I kind of miss living in Korea because you really do get compliments along the streets and it's sort of like an acknowledgement for your effort. Just my 2 cents.

Liking good looking people is in our dna and people don't always think about appearance just because they're shallow. Good looks meant someone is more likely to be healthy (example: a good jawline can mean that a person doesn't have their jaws and teeth in an incorrect and uncomfortable position, having a healthier jaw that functions properly) thus making them more desired. Also, pale skin meant you didn't have jobs poorer people had having to work out in the sun and was a possible sign of wealth. Who doesn't want a partner that has money to allow both you an them to live a comfortable life? It would be ridiculous to marry a homeless person over a person with cash because you need money to stay alive and buy necessities.

I know looking good doesn't 100% of the time mean being physically healthy, so I never stated that it could, and that it was only a possibility, writing "can mean..." instead of "does mean...". And when I compared a homeless person to someone with wealth, I didn't bring it up to talk about who can better themselves more, saying homeless people are unable to do so. My main point was that people naturally want a partner who is financially stable _in the present moment_ and is able to take care of both themself and you. Not one single bit was about me saying homeless people can't do this or can't be that.

Plus, anything about a human body can be an indicator for how healthy a person is and "perfect". Why else would movies portray stereotypical "outsider" kids who aren't liked as having glasses and braces? Because they have poor eyesight and poor teeth, and years ago that would mean slimmer chances of survival for humans as any animal would want the best and strongest partner, not one that has trouble with this and that. I find it sad how you felt the need to bring up that you've graduated from university in order to act like you're above and have a higher intelligence as if people who haven't can't be as smart or even smarter. And you *_still_* don't understand what my comment is trying to imply, adding words of your own.

I studied abroad in Korea and I felt I was living in Modelville. Everyone looked like a model (at the university). I felt a bit ashamed, and needed to step my game up, but I didnt want to change myself for a society I am not a part of and I would only be there for a few months, so.. When I got away from the univeristy, many people still looked like Models, but I saw more regular looking people. I felt a bit comfortable. I barely saw any fat people either. As a fat person, I was like.. "Not only do I stick out, because I'm a foreigner, but I'm a Black, woman, who is fat!!!?? Auuggghhh!" XD Whenever I saw another fat Korean (i only saw 4) I would give them the "Black-power " raised fist, in solidarity with them. Granted, I got weird looks, but I could understand their struggles. lol

A bit late as well, but I'm Korean and I mostly grew up in the states, so after having to move back home, I had the same feeling of being stood out as you! I felt the urge and necessity to step my fashion game up, and it really is a double edged sword since you feel like you have to be on par with everyone else otherwise you do feel that you are the odd one out. But making the effort to put more focus on what you wear to try and keep up with everyone does in the end give you some charm points and boost your looks, but at the same time of course, drains your money LOL. I think it heavily depends on how self-assured and secured you are, but me personally, I had a difficult time trying to ignore the high beauty standards. One of the reasons why I wanted to watch this video is to hopefully find comments like yours that I could relate to, so I'm glad I did!

Somewhere along the lines of "I'll fall for their personality and looks don't matter", makes me doubt such a statement. Humans have been instinctive to get attracted to what they *perceive* as attractive. There's really no way to escape lookism, **but one can avoid it**. I still believe someone has a subconscious bias to a "type", hence why people have preferences. Some people would rather date fit people, than unfit people. Some people prefer cleaner people than the not-so-clean people. Some people prefer people with a sense of fashion, vs a person without one. I do my best to avoid such a bias, but there's no way that I'd lie and say that I have no subconscious preference at all. I'll list all the questions below to which some people would probably answer "no" to. If you answer "no", it's completely normal, you have a subconscious preference. - Would you date an obese person? - Would you date a person who clutters and doesn't care much for hygiene? - Would you date a person who grows body hair other than hair on their head and brows? - Would you date a person without a sense of fashion? - Would you date a person who is facially and or bodily unattractive to you? Again, if you answered "no" to any of these, it's totally normal, but if you feel bad about it, you can always avoid your biases and try for people you just feel like you can connect with.

Personality & ideals are probably the most important thing when looking for partner, in my personal opinion. Though, there are physical attributes I'm more attracted to than others, it's ultimately someone's character & how they treat me (& make me laugh, I love that), that will determine moreso if I want to date them. Also, it saddens me how many people care about skin tone in this day & age. Imagine meeting the most "perfect" person for you & then choosing to disregard them b/c they aren't the "right" skin tone. That's absurd, in my opinion. Date whoever makes you happy EXACTLY as you are & if anything, makes you want to be a better version of yourself with each passing day. That's what really matters.
