    Thanks you sir Very much. I have seen so many videos on this but this is best and most direct. My set up now works. I am using the shure sm7b with a cloudlifter to zoom H6. I couldn't get the MIC to work on any four channels channels on the H6, but when I turned the phantom power on ! BOOM ! It worked. I didn't earlier because the shure sm7b being dynamic mic does not require phantom power they say but turns out if you're using the cloud lifter, you have to turn on phantom power. Thanks!!!!!!!!!!

    Dang Ryan! Flexing with that ribbon mic! lol. As far as bus powered usb interfaces, I have a EVO 8, which is bus powered through USB C. Does the USB type matter? Also, for the ribbon mic, you used your apollo interface which I believe has a power supply. Yet there was a perceptible gain boost with the cloudlifter. Since I have something similar with the iD44, which also has its own power supply, is a cloud lifter really necessary? I seems to me that with an interface that has it's own power supply, we can just boost the gain from the interface with no problems.

  • @TheGearCage

    @TheGearCage

    3 жыл бұрын

    Yeah yeah yeah! Interfaces that have an external power supply are more likely to have enough gain, but even then it can still be good to have a Cloudlifter. For instance, even the Apollo is on the fringes of having enough gain on its own so if you can balance between the Cloudlifter and main interface I think you can find a sweet spot in the sound/noise.

    That's kinda hard to say, because he said it does add color, and the neutrality of the mice and line-in would be altered. Thus, the emulation would be off. If you wanted to use it, I think you'll have to run a line-out to the cloud lifter, and then another line-in, if that makes sense.

    What is the equivalent product for guitars? I feel like this might be an issue with guitars too. It's suggested to increase the gain to the point that the audio interface doesn't clip. However, when you do so, you raise the noise floor too and it's clearly audible as hizzing, noise, static sound. So, what can be done in this case?

  • @TheGearCage

    @TheGearCage

    3 жыл бұрын

    Hey Dennis, thanks for watching! There sort of is a way to do this. If you look for a guitar preamp you can do something similar, or an Active DI with a gain circuit would also do something similar. You could also get a 500 series product and use a DI on that to go into the interface.

    Hey i just got a SM7B to use with a cloudlifter into my Apollo Twin USB. I bought the mic in order to record vocals and mostly for pop music (which means a lot of compression:). Here's the issue... the noise floor is insanely high and despite preamp level there's always a high white noise type sound in the recordings. I've tried without the cloudlifter, different xlr cables, with the monitors and lights turned off, different preamps / with uads clean preamp, different mic and cable positions around the room… but no matter what i try the noise is still there. It wouldn't have been an issue if the noise did not compete with the vocals in the mix… i’m using a gate to mitigate it but of course it’s not a proper solution. I’m really desperate here guys and would love if any of you could help me out! Thanks! *I’v been recording a lot with a neumann tlm 102 without any issues so the preamp in the apollo itself and cabels should be fine*

    I think you can hear a little bit of noise if you have the volume turned completely up in KZread. At normal volumes it shouldn't be that recognizable. Interestingly enough, I can hear a little bit of noise on my 16" MacBook Pro speakers, but nothing really through my studio monitors/headphones/or LG widescreen speakers when completely turned up. It might have something to do with the optimization/DSP in the laptop speakers. So many variables when it comes back to audio playback these days.

    It still doesn't make any sense why the XLR audio interface manufacturers can't integrate a signal booster stage inside their equipment. The Cloudlifter needs to be powered anyway by the audio interface, and that power consumption comes from the usb port in the computer. There is just no excuse to have to buy an extra power stage to add to another power stage.
