So many videos about this device miss the part about needing 48 phantom power engaged. Thank you so much for making this video!

I say, as long as you can keep the signal high enough, to keep the signal to noise ratio at 60dB or higher, you really don’t need an additional preamp. Even if the microphone signal was quiet, it wouldn’t matter. And MANY audio interfaces are easily capable of bringing that performance nowadays.

I just bought the vocaster 2...upgrade from Scarlett 2i2...I have the cloudlifter already... @dealcasters do you think I should use it for my RE20? I just recorded an episode of my podcast The City's Backyard with it...I think it enhances it for sure and gives it a nice boost. It won't harm the vocaster 2 will it? I thought I saw in another video that said not to use it with the new Rodecaster....just want some clarification on that...ok to use with these interfaces?

The Cloudlifter will not damage any interface or mic. Like you did with the 2i2, just make sure to turn down the gain in the interface, then turn on the phantom power. This activates the Cloudlifter and you can dial up the gain properly from your Vocaster. While the Vocaster preamps do have more gain than the 2i2s did, you’ll definitely hear a clear difference in sound quality by inserting the Cloudlifter in your chain and allowing that RE20 to really shine! I hope this helps you!

what type of mic are you using, and have you tried alternating xlr cables? I had the same issue once, and believe it or not - it was a bad mic cable!

@@Dealcasters I am using the Shure SM7B mic with the 4th gen Scarlett interface. I’ve tried everything *except* a better XLR cable, which I got on Amazon for like 9 bucks.

@ajunlimited we always recommend investing in quality cables, and a cable tester. A tester like the Behringer CT-100 will let you know if there are any issues with your signal chain. We also recommend Mogami XLR cables (links in description). Keep us posted!

@ajunlimited you should also check to make sure you’ve turned on your phantom power from your Focusrite interface. The Cloudlifter uses phantom power without passing it along to the mic.

@@Dealcasters I believe I did this but I’m not sure. I pressed the button that says “48v”.
