What Does Scoliosis Pain Feel Like?

For more information about scoliosis treatment please visit: www.scoliosisreductioncenter....
Patients with scoliosis may experience pain from time to time. These cases can vary between age groups, severity, and overall health. The most common way scoliosis causes pain is by pressing down on nerves and joints in the body.
Pain is uncommon in adolescent cases because as they are growing, the curve is not impacting any joints or nerves. Because these patients are not feeling any limitations yet, their condition is often underestimated and untreated.
Adult patients usually start experiencing pain after 40 years old after progressing due to gravity. In these cases where the pain begins years later, it is harder for the patient to realize this is scoliosis-related pain. This is when they start treating the pain instead of the curve, leading to even more scoliosis progression.
The most common areas affected by scoliosis-related pain are the lower extremities. These areas include hips, knees, and feet. Other areas that can develop pain are the lower back, shoulders, neck, and head.
The ideal approach to treating scoliosis pain is to evaluate the patient's current status and review their past X-Rays to determine how much their condition has progressed. The patient should also be given a customized, coordinated, comprehensive, multimodal treatment to reduce their scoliosis.
At Scoliosis Reduction Center, we focus on reducing the curve to manage the patient's pain and improve spine function. These goals can be achieved through various techniques of chiropractic care, in-office rehabilitation, home exercises, and corrective bracing.

Have you ever wondered what scoliosis pain feels like? Dealing with many different scoliosis cases, Dr. Nalda sees a wide variety of effects it can have on the body. Adult patients are usually the ones that deal with some type of pain. The progressive factors of an adolescent versus an adult can help identify the cause of pain. The lack of compression in adolescents when they are growing will often not cause pain in their curve. It is important to realize that just because a patient is not experiencing pain does not mean they should not take action. Adults usually feel pain because compression occurs due to gravity. This slow compressive force can cause pain to nerves, discs and tissues around the spine. During progression in an adult, their torso can shift to one side and begin to affect lower extremities. In order to help deal with the pain, a patient needs to work on reducing the spinal curve. At the Scoliosis Reduction Center we work with patients to create a customized treatment plan specific to each patient. One cannot just treat pain as pain, one needs to correct the cause. Dr. Nalda advises patients to put in the time to reduce their spinal curve, because it will often lead to a decrease in pain.

@@joracer7081 I'm 25, I've been dealing with terrible lower back pain since 17. I don't have much advice for you, I just wanted to say you're not alone. Keep trying to find something that works. Try a bunch of different stretches, try to figure out which ones help and which ones make it worse. I highly recommend getting a sleep number bed. Having an adjustable bed is a game changer. A firm mattress helps a ton for me. ALWAYS sleep on your back or side! Avoid sleeping on your stomach or a soft mattress. I wish you luck, scoliosis and back pain sucks. Especially when you work physical jobs.

Not a day goes by that i don't feel pain. Even walking short distances, my lower back is in pain and definitely my neck. As i have said before, my head feels like it just wants to fall off. My hunched back is just under my left side under my neck. So my head tilts forward a lot. And my lower back, and the tail end, i actually sometimes feel like i have an actual tail. I didn't know I had scoliosis until I was 63, but back/hip pain began when I was 57. My back pain led me to a spine center and it was there that I saw my big lumbar C spine for the first time. I was shocked that my spine was so crooked. His only recommendation to me was rods and screws or drugs. I turned it all down. Arthritis set in and now I have spinal stenosis and scoliosis. Eventually I found a hip doctor for right-side SI joint pain. Had SI joint injections for three years then she recommended SI joint fusion. At 73 YO, I had that done in February. After living with constant pain for over 13 years, the SI pain is gone. I am now concentrating on losing extra poundage and building strength in my back and hip muscles. I'm feeling so much better, but you're right. I'm certain I had scoliosis as a child and it caused the initial damage to my back, hips and feet (went from a size 7 1/2 shoe to size 9). Osteoarthritis did the rest.

I have left sided scoliosis, that keeps progressing, and causes severe rib pain on the left, plus back pain so bad when I wake up, I’m in tears every day. Finally a walk in clinic found the problem, but now, I don’t know what to do to, because my regular doctor, refuses to believe this could possibly cause this much pain. 😩 i just want relief, and to not absolutely dread going to bed, and waking up. Thank you for this video! I found out I had scoliosis when I was 20 years old after a car accident and x-rays were taken. I had a 21-degree curve at the time. No pain from the scoliosis until my late 50's. My pain is in the thoracic region and my intercostals/ribs. It also affects my hips. My muscles along the right side of my back are extremely tight. I am now almost 70 and am going to have to look for a good chiropractor. I had a wonderful one years ago but they retired. I do remember back in my 20's, my doctor did say "this is going to be painful when you get older." He was so right.

I didn't find out I have scoliosis until I joined the military. I had to get a Dr's permission to join. When I first found out, I was scared. I did some research and found out that it's hereditary. So I went to my mom and told her what I have. She was shocked and said that she did too. I asked her why she never had my back evaluated. Born in the 60's, I guess they didn't know that could happen. I wasn't happy about it because it explained why my back would hurt. Now I need treatment because I can't walk a mile or 2 down the road without severe sharp pain in the middle of my lower back. Even now, sitting here writing this the place where my neck meets my shoulders is hurting.

It's unfortunate that I hear more & more doctors say that scoliosis pain isn't much, if anything in children. Every case is different. Childhood & adult pain for me has been miserable. My scoliosis was caused by my right leg being nearly an inch longer than my left leg. They didn't figure that out until I was in my early 30s. The doctors thought I was lying about pain all through my adolescent years but my nerves lit up like an Xmas tree during MRIs with contrast. Bracing obviously didn't help, it just caused me more pain. The headaches, numbness & tingling are maddening. Chiropractic helped a lot, massage and tens units helped. Once they figured out that my legs were uneven, they tried putting a lift in my shoe, which threw off my spine even more since the damage was already done. After 20 years on pain meds (which I detoxed myself from) I've had minor surgeries: laminectomies, foraminatomies with little help. Finally a fusion at L5-S1 which only threw off my scoliosis more. What a shit show my life has been! At age 50 I am finally having a 2 day surgery in Aug to repair some discs & put in the rod and screws. I just want to be able to actually live. Tired of being in pain, staying off my feet and watching my children grow up from my bed. Love & prayer to everyone with scoliosis, I literally feel your pain. ❤️🙏🏼

Hi fellow scoliosis warriors. I'm 16 with severe scoliosis and the pain is excruciating. I recently went back to school and every night from carrying the back pack, even as little as I do with strong pain medication, I'm a wreck in the night. It's burning and stabbing all up my spine with these horrible muscle spasms. I need surgery but I'm too scared cos of trauma in hospital and needle phobia which gives me horrible panic attacks. I had my first flare in class today and God was it 👎 any advice? I can't do this and If I have surgery I'll miss even more work and possibly my gcse exams or college :(

I know that the surgery is scary. I had it at 13yrs. old and like you I was afraid also and very much afraid of needles. But I think you should really consider getting the surgery done if you are having these types of problems so young . You have the opportunity to have corrective surgery to rid these pains now. I'm sure they told you how much worse it can get. I am 54yrs. old now and couldn't imagine dealing with that so young. You can always make up for the schooling you miss. Technology has advanced so you have a much better chance at getting rid of the excruciating pain you experience now and do anything that you want to do with your life. The needles are not as bad as you think they are. I always look away and they are over in a second. Please take care of it now before you are fully developed. I can't express how important this is that you be brave now.. I don't understand why it wasn't done sooner. Our spines are delicate .I will be your personal cheerleader. You can do it 💪 💪❤️❤️

I was diagnosed at 11, had two braces, and was an extremely athletic child, swimming competitively for 20 hours a week. I've had back pain since I was 11, but no one ever believed me. I'm in my late 20'S now with often excruciating back pain. So much so that I've nearly thrown up from the pain, standing is the worst. I've been recommended to start pilates. My spine has progressed from about 30 degrees at 11 to nealy 50 degrees when I was 25. My spine is also twisting in the other plane from the curve, not sure if that increases pain.

Not really sure what a actual day is without pain. Had surgery at 18, had a 75 degree S curve. The surgery damaged muscle that now spasms if I move a wrong way, I can tell you when it’s going to rain or snow now do to massive pain I get right before, have areas in my back that I can’t feel topical touching but I get this intense itching that I can’t itch from nerve damage and still in intense pain. I got a double wammy with scoliosis with both parents having a genetic form of scoliosis, super sucky! Many of my family members have had surgery and a few have been successful but most ended up having the same problems I now face!

How can you have your doctor test for this ? I hurt my lower back back in February of 22 while working for a warehouse position lifting an twisting to much weight they made me physical therapy which made thing worse and I’m dealing with what feels like a compressed lower spine that often hurts in the middle and lower and sacroiliac joints as well. It almost feels as if it’s pinched or curving or something. I can’t Bend my back forward much to touch my toes so I don’t know what the issue is. I still can’t bend my back forward I have extreme pain when I sleep the most can’t sleep and I can’t lift anything over 5 lbs. I can’t cross my legs without so much pain standing walking bending are just difficult and I’m always hurting. Could what I’m experiencing be early form of scoliosis? I also deal with consistent muscle spasms that come and go when they want to. I’ve had an MRI which showed degeneration from my L1-SI and mild facet hypertrophy. I feel the most pain where my back dimples are and the front of my hips and into my lower back just before my dimples the lower area. They want to try injections but I’m afraid to get those near my sacroiliac joint or lower back

Hi, I have a very mild scoliosis, that's usually not causing any pain. However, when I ride my motorcycle (or a "similar" activity, like doing the dishes), I always feel a mild pain at the same spot, between the shoulder blades, which gets pretty intense after a few hours. The bike has an upright seating position, and it seems that the problem occurs when I'm holding my arms up in front of me. Do you think this issue can be caused by my scoliosis, and can it be treated?

I have a 15 degree cobbs angle thoracic spine (th5 to th8) (according to the X-ray) Could this be the reason I feel pain in my: - Shoulders (when pushing my shoulders to the floor (to my feet so to speak) - upper back more ore less underneath the shoulder blades (almost all the time) - upper-middle back (allmost all the time) - upper pectoralis pain twitches (frequently) - pain/numbness in fingers (often) - lower back as well but not as frequent. The pain started around 3 months ago during a deadlift, been in the process of finding out what is the cause, just made X-rays recently. Next step im not sure yet.

I've had idiopathic scoliosis for around 10 years now (now 23) and I had 2 curves. I can't remember the degrees, but it was in the grey area where I could brace or surgery. I've been suffering from back pain for nearly 10 years. I had spinal fusion in 2016 and still suffer from pain in my back, in the same spots as before I had my surgery. It's disabling. I rely on strong cannabis edibles and muscle relaxants to relieve pain so I can do daily responsibilities and work. I'm so lost I feel like I've looked everywhere for answers but nothing seems to be helpful. Do you have any advice to help chronic pain? I don't like the side effects of always taking methocarbamol.

I noticed your comment because it describes my experience perfectly from age to place of pain. I have a 30% S curve scoliosis and have been going to fysio and Kiro for two years. It is super annoying when they try to treat you for a frozen shoulder and “weak muscles” when its so clearly related to scoliosis. I had so much pain, only opiods worked. I finally got a fysio and Kiro who worked with the scoliosis. Now I can be fysically active in the line of my fysio recomendation and when I get pain my kiro can relieve them. Hope you find the right treatment ;))

When I was 20yrs old I was given a epidural when I was having my daughter and the doctor told me he didn't know if he could due it due to scoliosis but he was able to. Now I'm 61yrs and having several lumbar problems I was given steroid epidural injection and again I was told I had severe scoliosis but she continued but she had a very hard time. The results lasted 8 days. The first doctor I went wanted to do surgery right away without explaining why. I declined and did physical therapy which helped. I can't stand it walk for any length of time before I have vertabra slippage this is what hurts the most. I was told I have severe stenosis too. I just don't know where to go from here any suggestions I live in Texas. Help

is a spine transplant possible ?

  • @ScoliosisReductionCenter

    @ScoliosisReductionCenter

    5 ай бұрын

Unfortunately, transplanting the entire spinal cord is not currently possible in humans. It's incredibly complex due to The delicacy of the spinal cord tissue: It consists of highly specialized neurons that can't regenerate easily. Even minor damage can disrupt nerve function and lead to paralysis. Rejection risk: The body's immune system would likely reject a transplanted spinal cord from another person, even with immunosuppressive drugs. Ethical considerations: The ethical implications of harvesting a healthy spinal cord for transplant are significant.

i am 17 years old with a 35 degree curve, and when i was diagnosed at 15 my curve was just 23 degrees. i have been facing back pain ever since i was 12, however it only started getting severely worse when i turned 15 hence why i visited the doctor. i usually get pain in my upper back area rather then my lower back. my parents have talked to some of the best scoliosis doctors in the world and they all said that i should not get surgery. but i just dont get why my back hurts so bad all the time. maybe its because i grew so much from the time i was diagnosed up until now but i just dont get it. is it my posture? using my phone too much? not doing any sports? i am just tired of waking up and feeling this pain.

I’ve had body pain for years and years and years . I’ve went to the doctor out of fear of MS And they just said it’s fibromyalgia. Usually the pain is on the left side of my body, it feels like every muscles on that side is extremely tight , when I stretch that side It hurts so bad it feels like it’s tearing my muscles and when I just rest that side feels so uncomfortable so I have to stretch to get rid of that annoying uncomfortable feeling . My lower back is so tight it hurts so bad when I wake up I stretch and if I try to touch my feet in the morning it’s so tight my legs to numb and tingle . Feels like my tendons are tightened to their max and no doctors can find anything wrong with me at all just some stupid invisible disease called fibro . I disagree with them . Does this sound like scoliosis pain

It is normal. I am 43 with severe scoliosis. I resolved my hip and knee pain completely by wearing orthopedic insoles. I presume you also have flat feet... Go and ask you orthoped. The hip is in unnatural position and there is much strain on it. That is why it hurts. This hip and knee pain has been a torture and I have endured it for 20 years. Until I got the orthopedic insoles.

I wish someone would have suggested this to me earlier. That is why I am telling you this. Take Underbust corset, doesn't have to be too sturdy. It can even be the one with only 3 buckles in front. Just to give you support.

It hit worse over time but it was painful right away. It because arthritis. Neck awful. My hips are shifted off. Knees now occasionally hurt. Now in Fall when cold and wet out. Torture. I got my scoliosis at 10, with only a 10 degree curvature, by 12 it was a 56 degree curvature levio scoliosis.. I'm also autistic, so it's not easy to express and explain myself to others. I haven't had a x-ray since 12 so I'm curious how big my curvature is now. I have rotation as well too, because my right side is sunk in , one leg is shorter than the other, and my favorite, chiropractors won't see me due to my curvature being a liability... Pain management is a joke, they treated me like a dope head, I've never even had a ticket let alone any reason to be scowled at like that man scowled at me, " I believe he was upset I didn't want his seizure medication" I need real help, and I have no insurance, and I feel I have to change this, not for myself but for the children of our future, they can't go through what I went through, it's not right, people with scoliosis have no voice, and worse, we are treated by individuals with no true experience ie I'd love to have a doctor with scoliosis..

I have what you've described. My head is off centre to the right slightly, and I often get sharp pinching pain in my middle to lower back since I was 20, I'm 24 now. I couldn't sit normally in chairs as a teenager because my lower back spinal bones poke out. Now I keep getting harsh nerve pain on my sciatic nerve down to my foot. When I exercise I risk hitting it and leaving me in pain for days. What should I do at this point?
