nothing is the absence of anything, and in that way it can exist. If there was a box with nothing in it, then it would be fair to say that there was a nothing in the box. Now if you thought about that nothing then you'd be thinking of something. And that nothing would then become something from your perspective, but that doesn't mean that the nothing has actually become something, just that the nothing has now become something to you.

I’m 22 years old. I remember when I was very young, like 5-6 years old, I would think of nothingness. As I was concentrating on the idea of nothingness, it would all boil down to would it be black or white? Then I would come to the conclusion it would be neither. My brain couldn’t compute the idea of that and I would always get this weird/amazing/disturbing rush.

"Have you ever noticed that right before you start writing or drawing, every possibility is available to you? That's nothingness. Nothingness is infinity. Every possibility but no concrete existence. And then when you begin writing or drawing what you do is you put a limit on the infinity. You remove most of the possibilities and you're left with something, existence. This universe is exactly the same. It came out of nothingness, infinity, and it limited itself, and that created significance and existence. Beauty. " 🌻

It actually has a function. The air cushion is actually nitrogen gas. Chip manufacturers fill bags with this preservative gas to help keep chips fresh. If it were filled with regular air or just filled with more chips instead, the chips would likely turn soggy and spoil. Not only that but it also protects the chips from crumbling. Your so called ''nothing'' is actually nitrogen gas. You learn something every day ;)

I’ve been thinking about this a lot recently, specifically in regards to death. I find it impossible to comprehend what an eternity of nothing must feel like, because I cannot feel anything at all. It’s incredible to me that my only chance at experience is now, and then nothing forever. I won’t even be aware of that nothing. Never another thought. Never another opinion. What does no more consciousness feel like? Does it matter? I don’t know. I’m not religious, but I hope that at least one of them is correct. Whether there is some form of reincarnation or afterlife, an eternity of nothing is impossible for me to comprehend.

  • @basetempest7106

We are a momentary blip in reality. Even if there isn't an afterlife, our consciousness will simply cease to be, fading back in with everything. We are Nothing experiencing Something for a short time before we return to Nothing. We were never meant to understand all of reality. Our brains are simply too small and primitive to comprehend such a thing. Even our best computers are nothing more then random sticks we found on the ground the other day. we are only 12000 years old in a corner of a 14 billion year old existence. We have no idea and thats the beauty of it.

  • @TonyTalksBack

Base Tempest But what relevance is time without existence? How can anything be “momentary” without a consciousness to observe it being so? Why would our existence only be a short time? Far as I can tell, our existence might be the only time. I think we’re on the same page fundamentally, but I don’t see how we can say time exists in any real sense without an observer of it.

_So, don't be afraid of nothing. I could say, "There's nothing in nothing to be afraid of." But people in our culture are terrified of nothing. They're terrified of death; they are uneasy about sleep, because they think it's a waste of time. They have a lurking fear in the back of their minds that the universe is eventually going to run down and end in nothing, and it will all be forgotten, buried and dead. But this is a completely unreasonable fear, because it is just precisely this nothing which is always the source of something._ *The Essential Lectures of Alan Watts: Season 1, Episode 1*

In the blink of an eye, you're waking up in a hospital bed - uncertain of how much time has passed. Ever since then, I imagine that is what it is like to be dead and I'm no longer afraid of death. Nothingness can be scary, but we've all been there before we were born and some of us who've had surgeries have been there briefly again - and I promise you, it isn't scary like your brain wants you to believe so cherish every day and don't fear the end. ❤

Nothing seems like when you just go to sleep then wake up a second later. No dreams or anything, just that moment when you remember going to sleep and now youre awake. Those moments in between are what seem like can be a ''nothing'' feeling.

The closest thing to "nothingness" that we can imagine is the nothingness we experience before we got here. And even that is hard to imagine. Some may argue that we are basically walking memories or "nothingness" with a perception of self-awareness.

You can't imagine nothing but you can "experience" it through sleep - you don't do anything, think, hear, feel or see anything during it and you don't even realise it

If there is in fact nothing, identifying it as nothing makes it something. So technically you can never know nothing because if you "did" you would be classifying it, comprehending it, thinking, and therefore forming it into a concept. And that always makes it something

The statement “I’d rather not live like there isn’t a God, than die and find out there really is” has almost the complete opposite energy of your statement haha, yet both are valid and I don’t know which I’d prefer to live by haha

I feel like what you are trying to say leaves a lot of room for interpretation. I don’t think people living as if there isn’t an afterlife would be an inherently bad thing, like some are thinking. People don’t just make decisions and do things because they are going to be judged in the afterlife. I believe in an afterlife of some kind too, but before I make a decision to do something or not I don’t consider how I will be judged in the afterlife first. Which I imagine the majority of people don’t either. But I don’t feel an urgency to live my current life to the fullest because I feel my souls time is infinite. But if I knew this was all I had maybe I’d be more motivated to push myself beyond the social constructs and live a more fulfilling life......maybe, or maybe not.
