    I love how Nat is so calm with just about every situation, until it comes to the Hulk. I forget where I read this, but someone pointed out that it’s because she’s a spy and most of her “power” comes from her skills in talking and manipulation- and with the Hulk you can’t talk your way out of anything. He’s just pure rage and strength. Which for someone like Nat, that is understandably terrifying.

  • @shahriarahmed5947

    @shahriarahmed5947

    3 жыл бұрын

    I wouldn't say Nat is "calm". More like trying her best to appear calm just to not stress Banner out to make the other guy come out. You can tell by her body language and that is what I call acting. Its like when an aggressive stray dog comes after you and you have to show that you are brave and dominant to make the dog back out. She captured it perfectly here.

    What i love about this scene is Bruce isn't at all scared or threatened by Nat or Shield, he's fully in control here in himself and the situation and i expect its insulting they just came with guns, a pretty girl and nothing else. The way he shouts and breaks Nat's composure is brilliant acting from then both, she applied her usual tactics of being flirty and manipulative and it had no effect on him hence why he breaks her composure. End of the day if he turned Hulk would have killed everyone there, it was very naive of Nat and Shield to try this trick on him especially as they don't know how much Bruce is in control now of the Hulk.

    I disagree with your assessment. SHIELD prepped as well as they could. They did keep track of him and knew he hadn't turned green in over a year. Natasha says so in this scene. That shows robust planning and organization. So they know the risk of Banner going Hulk is low. Fury sent in one of his best people, one who knows how to deal with powerful men and high-stress situations. In case it all does turn to sh-t, the meeting is organized away from the city and they have a SHIELD team with special weapons surrounding the house. There may also be further preparations that we just don't see. When Natasha confronted the Russian general earlier in the movie, SHIELD had a plane nearby with missiles to blow up the place if things went wrong. I assume they did a similar thing here, but with heavier weapons for the Hulk. Maybe even a nuclear weapon? PS I may have sent Coulson to talk with Banner. He has a disarming, straight-to-the-point quality that may work well with a man like Banner. Bros, if you will. Natasha by her nature exudes something manipulative, and a man as smart as Banner can see through that.

    I think people overplay Banner's role in Ragnarok which is shot as a comedy anyway, where as in Age of Ultron he literally tells Wanda that he could 'snap her neck right now without even blushing' and his tone suggests that was no joke. And while I don't care for the ship, his scenes with Nat can't be called comedic relief either.

    I love this scene, the way he fidgets with his hands, holding them at times to constraint his anger; looking all paranoid and reading the room and Natasha's condescending tone; then he starts to lower his guard (or pretends to) 1:30. Then you could hear the crack in her voice 2:14 when she says "talk to Fury" , teary eyes and even veins popping in her neck; you can tell this scene was intensive for her. She thought she was manipulating the situation, but it was him under control from the get-go, letting her doing all the talking, lowering her guard and getting comfortable for him to scare her a bit. Mark Ruffalo did justice to Bruce Banner in this movie.

She didn't even want the assignment ... look it up on KZread (I vividly remember that one; she was NOT happy about it). She knew that Bruce could flip into the Hulk with ZERO notice and that she literally would be broken BEFORE her hidden backup could swoop in and also end up broken. She knew that he would KNOW about her backup .... so when he mentioned it in the beginning of this clip, she was referring to only them talking, not them being alone. She NEVER was in control.

Like the wild guess that since depleted uranium rounds didn't exist in Lovecraft's time, that Cthulhu could be easily defeated. I see this in so many places but it's totally ridiculous. There are beings in fiction that wouldn't even laugh at a gunshot, because they wouldn't notice it bounced off. Honestly, I think the only reason Superman would even notice a sniper shot is because he also has super senses. Not sure Luke Cage does, so him getting sniped would probably just be ignored.

    This is probably one of the saddest scenes in Marvel. Bruce knows that no one can trust him because he’s had to go through that almost everyday of his life. He knows Nat didn’t come alone and that her confidence is just an act, because deep down he knows everyone is scared of him. Also people have to understand Bruce’s arc; he starts off alone and at war with himself before finding people who could care for him only to lose control for years and finally be saved by Thor where he builds a new family. By Infinity War this war against the Hulk is at its peak, the climax of his arc, neither can live without the other but at the same time neither can control one another, finally Endgame is the resolution with him and Hulk finally becoming one.

    In the comics, a sense of “will” isn’t a super power persay but it lets some pull off incredible feets. Some that have such is Spider-Man, captain America, Dr. Doom, The Thing, etc. Banner has possibly the strongest. He quite literally can control the hulk. In the comics, hulk is described as a force of nature and banner can control him. That’s the true reason that hulk doesn’t obliterate everything around him all the time, banner limits hulk, makes him pull his punches. In one comic, Loki “swaps bodys/controls banners half ig” with banner and expects to be insanely powerful as the hulk. What happens is that hulk goes on a rampage and Loki can’t stop or control him in the slightest. Banner then gains control back and absolutely woops hulks ass and puts him in his place. I find it really interesting how strong banner is too.

    Man, why don't we get more scenes like this in the MCU anymore? There wasn't a stupid quip every 5 seconds, and there was actually good characterization. It showed off how Banner's intelligence can be just as scary as Hulk's strength. He knew he was being fucked with and lied to instantly, and used a cheap scare to get Nat to tip that off, and you can subtly see the sheer terror in Nat's eyes at the prospect of him Hulking out. It also showed a great deal of respect for Hulk as well, from a writing standpoint, as a quasi-mindless, horrifyingly powerful rage machine that wants to destroy everything in sight is an idea that should scare the absolute shit out of anyone, especially the person less than 5 feet away from the container for that.

    I haven't followed a ton of hulk in the comics, but the directors have to walk a pretty fine line between having a hulk that marginalizes every villain or is too weak to matter. Other than the pre-Ruffalo hulk movie, he hasn't had a solo so he's had to be part of a team up of some form. So in that context, imho they made a fair shot. The MCU isn't a direct portrayal of any comics, everything isn't going to translate perfect.

    I love how fast she went from Confident and In Charge, to TERRIFIED. She knew that gun wouldn't have done anything, but it was all she had.

    "Why don't we do this the easy way, where you don't use that and the... other guy... doesn't make a mess. Okay?" She knew she had not even a snowball's chance in hell of _escaping_ Hulk, let alone _fighting_ Hulk, and her gun was basically a peashooter with roughly the damage capacity of a wadded up sheet of wet paper. And worse, he _also_ knew how utterly doomed she'd be if he flipped his mode switch, and was trying to give her an "out."

    She was terrified the moment she was given the mission. We might not get a scene for it, but this scenes shows enough for it to be obvious.

    Fun fact: Hulk initially didn't got the role at first, but then the director and crew saw him transform into Ruffalo and everyone blown away by his acting capabilities!
