what does a therapist wear? 👗👘👜 | tips & advice on curating a professional wardrobe.

This week's video is about the outfits that I wear to work as a therapist/ social worker/ researcher. I'm no fashion guru but being able to achieve my goal of curating my closet has brought me so much joy these past few years! Hope you enjoy this video! :3

I love your tips and outfits! I’m excited to dress more professional when I take on a different position in mental health! I currently work at a women’s shelter and I walk/run around a lot, deal with those who are in poverty and are homeless and also do a lot of cleaning and moving furniture… so business casual or anything more out together doesn’t really work out. To be fair, I do appreciate not having a dress code (all my clients are women and dress code is very lax - just don’t wear anything revealing or triggering) and if I want to wear sweatpants and a hoodie on bad days I have full reign to do so. However, being able to dress up and look professional makes you feel like a bad ass and feels good. Whenever I dress up I always feel more confident versus just wearing sweatpants so it is something I look forward to when I work in a different setting!

Hi, I’m not a therapist yet but I am in school for social work and might be able to help with your question. For me personally, I value my authenticity in the work place so I like to dress as close to my normal style as I can but just leveled up a bit more professionally and appropriate for the setting (safe and comfortable to do work in). I work with kids so I try to avoid my showing my bigger piercings for safety. I wouldn’t necessarily anticipate running into clients regularly depending on where you work but typically therapists legally can’t identify themselves as a clients therapist in public. Some clients might feel more comfortable with seeing you in your normal clothes and some might have opinions but If they have genuine concerns it might be smart to talk with them about why it makes them uncomfortable. I hope that helps!

I like my therapist and style of work. She helped me and I have come a long way. However, My therapist wear leggings as pants with thong showing out the top. Her shirt stop a little below the naval. How do I tell her when she dress like this it make me feel some kind of way....? Please help?

If she’s a good therapist, she’ll know how to deal with this information, if it makes you uncomfortable it could be a good opportunity to try to understand the reason why it makes you Ike that
