What does a product manager do? | day to day routine work

While I have still yet to find a good answer for "What is a product manager?" I'd love to share exactly what it is I am doing while at work! Definitely wasn't able to capture absolutely everything, but I think this gives a pretty good idea into what it is I'm likely doing on a day-to-day basis. I'm speaking from just my experience this past year as a product manager, I know the role can change a lot based on your team, product, company, etc.

Thanks for this Evelyn! Couple questions: 1. Do you setup the success metrics yourself? or do they get handed down to you from leadership? 2. You mentioned the Identify step from the SDLC; Do you do product discovery and form a feature request list then prioritize based on that? Or are the problems you identify handed down to you?
Thanks Evelyn for creating this video. I am wondering If I can get your thoughts on this - I recently discovered product management but my impression so far is that I can be paid well (sweet sweet tech salary), don't need to code, don't need any special certifications/MBA/MS Computer Science (or any specific degrees for that matter) or specific experiences. Seems too good to be true. Wondering if I am missing something?

I would love if you can offer any insight to my question either through message or at the end of your future videos! Having been in your role for over a year now, have you ever had to do any technical work for any of the products you've worked on? Ex: having to perform queries in a database, discussing runtime/tradeoffs, etc. Thank you so much!

I feel you, it felt like a steep learning curve for me. I would suggest you ask as many questions as possible early on, learn as much as you can about everything going on around you!
I’m a PM and I still watch your videos to figure out what other PMs do 😂
