I also think you should be able to automate this in settings. When iMessage has not been responded to within a certain timeframe, you can set an unread notifications or badge so that you don’t have to actively do this every time someone text you to sort of do this email settings when you sent an email to someone and they haven’t responded yet

@@AlisaHaman I am a diehard fan of your channel and also because you look so much like my favorite Nina Dobrev.

There are problems with turning ‘Read’ into ‘Unread’ because many users have read receipts turned on. However in 2020 with iOS 14 Apple introduced the ability to ‘Pin’ messages to the top of the screen if you want to remember to come back to that convo later. Check it out.

I would like to ask that I have 6.2 years experience in software and customer support role, I am engineering graduate from India. I am not inclined towards coding related roles. I want to get into product role, but in remote role and a good company from US/UK. Also my salary is pretty less as compared to market standards. Could you please advise, how to go about that and also do I need to disclose my present salary in interview (as I am afraid it will lead to issue while negotiation) Please guide. Thank you.

Hello Alisa. Nice video again! And thanks for accepting my request on LinkedIn. :-) I have 3 questions please. 1) When as a PM should i consider building wireframes to illustrate a feature to build? Especially when we have many other ideas to solve the underlying need (mark unread, reminder notifications...). 2) Isn't it the work of designer during design sprint? 3) Can you suggest a resource to learn how to build simple wireframe? Hi Kevin! I usually find that creating a wireframe is a great way for me to get all my ideas down on (virtual) paper, and it helps me explain my thought process. A designer definitely creates the higher fidelity designs, but often times a PM will create the wireframes early in the process to show the team what they are thinking, and might even put the low-fidelity wireframes in front of customers to get feedback. I would recommend getting a free Figma license, and practice creating some wireframes there! There are some great Figma KZread videos that can help you get started!

Yes! In this video I used Balsamiq, which is great for really low fidelity mocks. I also enjoy using Figma - and you can get a free Figma license and there are tons of tutorials of how to use it on KZread!

Hi! I am here from seeing a comment you left on Exponent's channel. What KPI's would you use for this feature to determine if the product development cost is worth it?

I love Exponent! And that's an excellent question. I would definitely track engagement of the feature that we roll out. I like to roll out features as iteratively as possible, so I would release something light that solves the problem, and if engagement/usage of the feature is high, I would continue investing in some fast-follow features. This prevents any massive upfront investment for a potentially low-use feature. Perhaps % of users who mark a message unread in the first 1 week of its release could be a good KPI to track. I wouldn't expect this feature to have a significant impact on revenue or customer growth, given it is more of a nice-to-have surprise and delight feature. Given that, I might measure customer sentiment on social and tech blogs. If people are excited, it means that we delivered that special surprise and delight functionality that Apple does so well.

Hi! Had a pair of questions. How do we deal with features like this, in terms of priority? Since it’s business ROI wouldn’t be too significant because people won’t stop using the iPhone (or iMessage?) because of the lack of this feature, but users would realllly like it? And also since Apple isn’t known to push out cool features except in a really publicised new iOS update. Also. How much would you say the competition’s strategy about their message app’s features would play a role (in general & in a company like Apple’s context) ?

Fantastic questions! I've noticed that there are quite a few "surprise and delight" features that Apple rolls out with each new iOS update. A couple examples include sending messages with emphasis and memojis. Neither of those features were must-have features that had a real impact on ROI (I'm assuming), but they did introduce some fun functionality that keeps users happy. I would hope that "mark unread" would be another one of those nice-to-have features in an upcoming iOS release. And I'm not so sure how the competitor functionality would impact Apple's decision to build this feature. I don't think any Apple users would switch to Android (for example) simply because Android had mark unread functionality (since it's a nice-to-have feature rather than a must-have). Perhaps if Android rolled out a series of big updates to messages, Apple may want to play a bit of catch-up. In short, if Apple were to build "mark unread," it would just be to give customers that surprise and delight feeling that Apple users love. What do you think??

I do agree with you on them & that except if other messaging apps on Android greatly surpass iMessage with a host of cool new features, iMessage doesn't really face much danger of losing its customers to them because of lack of certain features. I think, it's not just because Apple's design and products & everything Apple is really good at, but it's also the amazing ecosystem they've built to be a solution for everything, along with their excellent brand value that pays dividends in customer loyalty.

Your explanation is just one out of the ten I heard. what a vague field. I think it will implode on itself pretty soon. Everyone is “UX designer” now. So sad. And please stop already with these “empathy“. It’s such a overused word. Makes me sick to the stomach to know that’s the tool. Like U-X-designers have monopoly on that

@@ikalennyy6986 product managers TRANSLATES the product vision to their team: developers, designers, and more. His role is to make sure that what the team is building solves the customer problems while having impact on the business. If a designer comes up with something cool that the costumer loves but this doesn't make the company advance on its objectives, it is the PM job to make sure that the team understands that the role of the team is to make the company advance on its results. Using music analogy, PM would be the conductor and the rest of the team would be musicians. The conductor (PM) it's not there to teach musicians (designers, devs) how to play an instrument (tools), they are there to assure that as group, the musicians execute the music (the product, the business) composed by the composer (founder, directors, CEOs) the way it is intended to be played. The PM must assure that at the delivery, the team achieved something meaninful, and not just built things that doesn't help the company to grow. And a lot of times the PM must show to the higher level people why it is important to do something for the user, how that feature or product will create value for the company, since this kind of people doesn't always understands product/user/consumer, all they wanna see is results.

Sound like а “product manager” is similar to a good old “project manager” role but also the one who more deeply understands a bigger picture of the product they are managing. I come from music background so I appreciate your comparison. It sounds like a product manager is a person who could come from a UX background (desired to) but not necessarily needs to have that background if this person has a good understanding of that product and how it aligns to business needs. I was also confused about the differences between product “designer” , UX designer and product manager. Could you elaborate on product designer versus US designer?

That's exactly how I view this role! My vision is this: we tended to create a scope where a UX (user experience) designer would be focused on the first part of user experience, which consists on trying to solve a user problem by using tools such as research to understand that problem and propose paths and solutions. Then, the UI (user interface) designer would come into the picture to produce something visual to solve that problem (screens, prototypes, interfaces in general), using of course, the insights gathered by the UX designer. Companies nowadays wants people who can master both parts of experience design (or as I see people trying to call this days, product design), they want people that can be good at both parts of the process, since at the end of the day, it's the whole thing that will impact the user. The user doesn't perceive the process, they perceive the PRODUCT as whole. Smaller companies tended to search UX designers who were also familiar with UI so they wouldn't have to hire a UI designer too. What is happening is, companies are putting the name PRODUCT DESIGNER on titles as a way of saying: we want you to be good at understanding users but also be able to propose visual solutions. If you are really good and like the visual aspect of UX/Product, for example, you can pursue the Design System Lead or Design Lead path. If you like discovery and understanding users, you could become an UX Researcher. But mainly bigger companies would have the resources to hire such specific roles, for the smallest ones is easer to ask for a Product Designer who will be able to deliver the whole thing from start to finish. It's becoming rarer and rarer to see UI Designers jobs, for example, because it is being viewed as an operational job, and you should be doing this WHILE contributing to the first part of the product design process which consist in understanding the problem and proposing the solution. A lot of times HR doesn't even now what they are searching for, that's why there are a lot of confusion about job titles and the actual scope. That's why the role of "tech recruiter" is also growing. It's a recruiter that really knows the specifications of the tech and digital product industry.

Why don’t you just close Read receipts? So it will show as delivered and not as read to the sender.

The problem is that customers do not know what they need to solve problem. Joking? Not at all, simple customers do not know that certain features can be implemented. Funny? But true.

Apple is a very arrogant company. I asked them simple features for ages, but nothing, absolutely nothing changed.
