What do people think of the Reverend Ian Paisley, Paisleyism and the Free Presbyterian Church?
Reporter John O’Donoghue takes to the streets of Belfast and to see what the city’s citizens feel about the Reverend Ian Paisley.
What do you think of the activities of the Rev Ian Paisley?
There are opposing views on the place of a man of religion in the realm of politics.
One critic of Paisley says
I believe that Mr Paisley if he is supposed to be a reverend gentleman should stick to his preaching.
and further comments that he should practice what he preaches.
Another describes him as
Fanatical and outspoken about his beliefs
However, he does have his supporters with one man says,
I think Mr Paisley is a good man... He should get more support cos he’s doing what’s right
The Ravenhill Free Presbyterian Church offer a telephone service where callers can get a message from God. Using a telephone box John O’Donoghue makes a call and receives a recorded message about salvation which signs off,

    To me he was the instigator of hatred that cost many a life in the six county's and should be remembered for that not a peace maker his voice was worse than a thousand bullets ever fired by a unionist gun

    I completely agree with you, he was the cause of many innocent people losing their lives, and families being burnt of their homes, he brought nothing but evil, warped minded, just like his cousin Trump, only cared for himself

    To be fair to Paisley he had the wisdom of forethought in that he knew of the dangers to his community and people by allowing the influence of said people to wane. That said the Protestant domination of the 6 counties through discrimination was abhorrent.

    He was in Cork years back giving a talk. Chuckling away on the radio as well. Man was a demon but strangely treated his own Catholic constituents well.

    He separated his religious side from his duties as an MP, which I think is impressive for a man who threw as much mud at the Pope as Dr Paisley did.

    Glentoran street beside the small F P church. I remember stripping the lead out of the old condemed houses in the late 70s😊

    That’s one of the reasons they never took him out ,along with the fact he openly advertised what the loyalists were thinking and plotting.
