Always number one eyeball is a priority, radar, echo sounder, GPS and cameras are an aid to your trip. It was one of the first things i was taught when i was training to go to sea. Great story telling. Thank you for a great video

Thnx, this eyeball thing is true. Even in docking I see everything on my screen, but still I stick my head out every time to check if what I see on the screen is what there is IRL. It always proof to be so, but nevertheless, next time again I stick my head out.

Daag Henk, I really enjoy your videos, and happy to see that Lady Liselot is back in good shape after your engine issues 😃 I’m myself contemplating buying a fluvial boat (smaller though) and your films have told me 2 things so far : 1- one can sail for years on the rivers and canals of Netherland and Belgium without getting bored.. 2-a VHF radio is really a must in order to get through all the locks and bridges easily. Best of luck for this summer 😊

Regarding #2, still I see people without VHF. Most bridges have good cameras or a “press to call for opening” button and ignorance of what happens around you sometimes is a special thing.

Made me laugh the English thingy !!! The Engine driven Alternator, But as and English Man I have no clue what the Dutch word is, that is because English people are too lazy to learn another language. Great work keep smiling Mike

There are English people who do speak some Dutch, Michael… he said with a smile. Us Dutchies have adapted foreign languages. The last couple of days I had people from Germany and France come up to me (in The Netherlands) asking questions in their own language. (Since Napoleon left we do not speak French anymore and the Germans have been kicked out in 1945. Still it seems that many of the present tourists think the own a piece of this land) AND instead of telling them to F.O. and learn English or Dutch first, I replied to them in their own language. In the Netherlands, the VTC, -lock and -bridge operators of the main spots, will respond in English and German.

Scheelt ook in draaiuren en dus onderhoud aan de motoren.

Red is forbidden as a fuel for recreational boaters. In whole of Europe. It’s a matter of customs since there is little to no tax on red. Our friend Google will help you out in this matter. BUT… when I as european visit foreign places and there is only red available, I must proof the reason of me using red. First the delivery slip and invoice of course and then video and film helps. For you as regular red user and not under one of the European flags, just keep proof of flagging that flag and all the invoices of red deliveries so you can proof. But again, this is just my interpretation, the websites of customs for sure tell you more about it.

Hoi, terwijl je vaart met 1 motor aan. Dan beweegt de schroef(as) van die stilstaande motor natuurlijk wel mee. Wordt die dan wel genoeg gesmeerd, en watergesmeerd...

Yep, ik heb Velvet keerkoppeling en die zijn daar voor gemaakt. De koeling van motor en keerkoppeling zijn van elkaar gescheiden. Het waren de dualcoolers die vorig jaar zorgden voor het vastlopen van de motoren. Zie de episodes van vorig jaar.

Bij 2 motoren is de SB motor met een rechtse en de BB motor met een linkse schroef uitgerust (meestal). Merk je dat je iets moet tegensturen met 1 motor?

Hahaha dat ding is al een tijd lang in de hoek gelegd, Toen ze het idee hadden ben ik gevraagd of ik er aan mee wilde werken om de LASH baken waar ze op staat aan elkaar te lassen. Het was eigenlijk de bedoeling dat ze over zee kon worden versleept naar engeland - frankrijk het noorden en ook de middelandsezee......... Maar het was niet duidelijk hoe zwaar alles zou gaan worden en er was geen budget voor een goede constructie berekening en tekening. Ik heb dus maar bedankt voor die klus. volgens mij was het onmogelijk om met die dingen een zeewaardig vaartuig te maken en heb hen het hele project ontraden. Nu ligt ze daar omdat ze niet te vervoeren is. Einde verhaal. eigenwijze mensen.

Mijn schip heeft de afmeting: 135m lang, 15m breed, max diepgang 4,22m, laadvermogen 6034 ton....so you know 😂

My maths: 1 engine: 100% speed, 100% burn, 2 engines: 125% speed, 200% burn.

⁠​⁠@@MVLadyLiselotI had understand you maths, but this is not like that. Because the RPM are the same, but the engine has not the same burn. Like a car, you can put a car on the highway on 150 with cruise control on the same RPM, but it is not the same burn when you go up or down the hill. So, when both engine on the same RPM, they burn less fuel because they “help each other”. The fuel burn with two engines is maybe a little bit higher, but bot so much. I have tested it on my boat multiple time. The big advance of drive on one engine is, the engine hours and the maintenance and thats why people often goes with one engine. Because the hydrodinamic of a boat with two engines is make for two engines, so the fuel burn can not be much more. When I go with my boat 6-7 knots, I have a fuel burn of about 1,5l/nm, when I go with one engine, I have a speed of about 5 knots and a fuel burn of about 1,2l/nm.

Akelig dat je de geschiedenis met de ark van Noach half belachelijk maakt. `ze hebben overlegd in de hemel` enz enz. Nee als leraar biologie heb ik me daar ontzettend in verdiept en het is allemaal mogelijk hoor. Een oervorm van elk diersoort op jonge leeftijd in de ark enz

De vraag is dan ook: als ook jouw wieg 3000km oostelijker had gestaan, had jij dan dezelfde ‘kennis’ gehad, als je nu hebt? Als ik voor mezelf spreek zeg ik: “ik weet zeker van niet.”. Als je openstaat voor die suggestie, staat vanaf nu alles ter discussie. Dat kan erg confronterend zijn en ik merk dat velen die confrontatie niet aandurven. Vandaar mijn waarschuwing aan het begin van de video.
