What Do You Say at a Celebration of Life, Memorial Service or Funeral?

Speaking at someone's memorial service or "Celebration of Life" is one of the saddest, most important things you'll ever do. My experience at my friend's celebration of life might help you manage your own grief, anxiety, or fear about speaking.

Laurie, you are the Canadian Mr. Rogers for adults. Honestly, your words are so nurturing, healing, and encouraging. Thanks for your videos.

Such great advice. I regret not sharing about how much my neighbor meant to me. Her family planned it and I didn’t want to have them feel I’m taking it over. We loved Ruth so much and so did many other neighbors. Our own experience with the person is what they meant to us is what matters. ❤️❤️😇

I did It!! I made my speech in front of around the tune of 150-200 people. It flowed. Just prepare a bit. I was so nervous that the night before I couldn’t sleep, so I went onto KZread and this video was the first to pop up. I saw that it was only a minutes long so I clicked and glad I did. Your words inspired me. 🙏🏻 To all the people out there who are anxious about when you’re asked to speak at a celebration of life, listen to what she’s saying in this video 💯 you’ll be so glad you did it! I certainly am 🥂

That's wonderful, William, thank you for sharing! I have a feeling your words were comforting, inspiring, and meaningful. A few days ago I had a conversation with a woman who believes that the spirit of the person who passed is at every memorial service or celebration of life. I believe that, too. So, not only are your words still echoing in the hearts of the people at the service, they're also echoing in the spirit of the person you honored. It's so beautiful! 💞
