Today Luke is reviewing the Optimus Elektra FE Cook System!
....
Link : www.optimusstoves.com/us/us/1...
Price : Retail is $100 but you will find this for a bit lower here and there.
Weight :
Entire Kit : 1lbs 1oz and that is without a can of fuel.
Pot with Top : 9.7 oz
Stove with storage bag : 2.9oz
Wind Screen : 3oz
Sponge : .4oz
Piezo ignitor : .7oz
Aluminum
The Elektra FE Cook System is a fuel-efficient, high-performance wonder - you get a 28% faster boil time at a 20% fuel savings. (Small print: faster compared to a normal pot with no lid or windscreen.). The lightweight system that fits snugly in your pack includes the Crux Lite stove, a heat exchange pot with lid and a new non-stick coating, clip-on windscreen, our practical BOB cleanup sponge and a handheld Piezo ignitor. I’ll take your “fast” and raise you one: In just over 2 minutes, you have boil and soup’s on!
Fuel Type
LPG gas canisters
Boil Time
2.3 min/1L
Burn Time
[max output] 90min
Heat Output
3000W
Piezo Ignition
yes
Includes crux lite stove, heat exchange pot, lid, grill pan, piezo igniter, windshield
…..
· A lightweight, fast-cooking backpacking stove
- Not the lightest or the Fastest . You will see some describe this set as ultralight but that isn’t accurate. In fact, as a kit it is heavy compared to titanium offerings…which are much lighter and more expensive.
· Boils a liter of water in under 2.5 minutes - I found it to be around 3 minutes with my testing.
· Windshield makes cook times faster
· Piezo ignition lights stove without lighter or matches
· Lid doubles as fry pan for added versatility
The lightweight Crux Lite stove features Heat Exchange Technology and 10,200 BTU of heat output for fast and effortless boiling.
Review :
I tend to go more minimal with a focus on light and fast backpacking but as a whole this is a great kit. This is a great kit which is only missing a few items such as a spork and so on.
It’s a nice setup for the price
The medium size fuel canister, the stove burner head (in its own transport bag), and the Piezo lighter all fit inside the pot system with room to spare. Also included is a drawstring closure mesh bag that encases the whole system. This makes for easy transport and setup. The Optimus "system" fully meets my needs.
would highly recommend for all conditions except extreme cold and altitude since the fuel used does not work well in those conditions.
The nonstick surface is especially nice if you are cooking while out on your adventure. The "frypan" top makes great egg pucks for sandwich thins. It will do a nice sausage patty too, but you are gonna have to cut up the bacon slices.

That's great Luke, I enjoy your adventures as well as your reviews. Sadly my last adventure was last year in May, my wife doesn't have the affinity for the outdoors like I do. Hopefully this year will be more adventurous. ^^

I put some WD-40 or 3-in-1 oil on the hinge pins of the legs and let it sit. It will burn off, yet leave it lubed.

Luke.... awesome bro I just bought one and now I will get an honest review from you. Perfect timing. Strength and honor brother. Update: power is still out at my house. This setup worked great but exact same problem with the folding legs! 100% what you described. Other then that it worked flawless!!

I like this set, Luke. I have the other Crux stove, based on your recommendation, and i like it. This looks like a pretty complete cookset for those times when you want more than just a pot/cup.

I have the same issue with the stove - one of my legs is extremely hard to fold out. Great review!!!!

The heat exchanger does work on other cookware that uses it. Esbit has a model using it with an alcohol burner. The only advantage it has in warmer weather is maybe fuel savings. Best for cold weather I think. Thanks for the vid.

Hello Luke, I own the kit similar to that kit, yes I also have one leg that is hard to open and close, but I like it a lot, thanks for your review, God bless you and your Family always and forever, 🇺🇸🇺🇸

I like the crux. I have many different stoves incl. the jetboil and MSR pocket rocket. The MSR rocks and has never failed me. I might try out the crux this year too. I even have the cheapo $12 stove and boy is it tiny but works well...

Heat exchangers sure do work, when the first jetboil came out there were a lot of tests that proved it to be faster than the older type of stoves.

The Primus Lite + is a similar sized kit that performs better than the FE. No stove legs to bend and the wind protection is better. No frying pan, but you can cook meals and water in the pot. Nice looking too. Also there is a peizo lighter embedded in the stove so no need for an external lighting mechanism.

I wouldn't use wd-40 or anything like that, a little steel wool or a brass welding brush (they sell 5 packs @ Harbor Freight for like $5) and clean them up nice, then use some high temp lube to help keep em good. That pot looks bigger than 800 ml... Maybe it's 800 to the top graduation mark.

Thinking you did point the enclosed side of the shield to the windward direction correct? One of the main reasons I bought this was to cook in most windy conditions.

Luke, check out the JetBoil system. I've been using it for years !! Works perfectly , about the same price or LESS and many of the loose parts you have there are incorporated into the system.

REI used to sell a rig that went around a pot that had channels that held the heat in effectively making the sides of the pot a lot hotter. Not sure if they still sell it or not. I started with them back in the day when they had 1 store and a warehouse and most of their business was mail order. The world is a lot different now and I rarely shop at REI any more. Call me old fashioned but I'm not a big fan of canister stoves. The stove I swear by is the MSR dragonfly. It's not the lightest or the fastest but it's bomb proof and puts out a LOT of BTUs and simmers very well. It also burns just about every liquid fuel.

Luke, On this stove the pot support arm pivots appear to be in the flame so they will corrode. Other stoves pivot out of the flame zone. Would not want this stove for this reason.

I have used oil and it works well. It will smoke when it gets hot and you will have to re-apply it. I put a drop on each hinge after I use the stove. I use cooking oil mainly but have used gun oil. I have the Optimus Crux stove.

Five words...Soto Amicus Stove and Cookset! Soto stoves like the Amicus and Windmaster are the best. Japanese, not Chinese, or Korean made, so think Lexus, Acura, and Infinity automobile quality. Built in wind screen design, so cooking in windy conditions much easier, with approximately 10,000 BTU. Four legged pot stands versus three on other stoves. Built in, (not loose, or separate) Piezo electric igniters, and brass, versus aluminum fittings. Better simmering ability! Overall better than all other stoves, including the MSR Pocket Rocket 2, and the Amicus cookset purchased by me for $50, half of the price of this featured cookset.

Rust is no good. Deal breaker. My D Power stove won't rust and it has electric ignition. $12. My RioRand Portable Cookware Backpacking Bowl Pot Pan Cooking Kit cost $14. Everything fits inside including the gas can and my cook kit also works with esbits. Total cost without fuel $26 and no rusting.
